La Blanchetterie is a beautiful charentaise farmhouse and gîte set in the quiet village of Chenac, facing south with fantastic views of the Gironde estuary, just 10 minutes from the nearest beach of Meschers. Complete with pool, the property is set in an acre of garden, surrounded by vineyards and sunflowers. The adjoining village of St Seurin d'Uzet used to be the centre of caviare production in France. The region is famous for not just caviare, but oysters, wine and cognac.
The property has been restored to keep a lot of the original features, including exposed beams and stone fireplaces. Each house is well equipped, all linen and bath towels are provided.
The owners, Katie and Mike Harrington, live at the property in a converted barn behind the house and are at hand to answer any questions, and maybe take you on a tour of a working vineyard for those who are keen to do a bit of tasting, including the local Pineau.
Golf: There are a number of golf courses in the area - Royan, Palmyr, Saintes and Cognac.
Bicycles: We have a range of bicycles for our guests to use.
Meals: We will quite happily cook for you on any amount of evenings during your stay.

Having lived in London for many years, we had a year in Vietnam which really made us realise that we wanted to try something different.
Katie and Mike Harrington purchased this cottage in 2001
We looked at many houses before we found La Blanchetterie. It ticked every box including a perfect location in the quiet French countryside but only 10 minutes in the car from the beach.
Fantastic weather, great area and super house to stay in. Mike and Katie have been wonderful hosts and we have enjoyed their company, always on hand but never imposing. Thank you for a couple of fantastic weeks, hope to see you both again either here or in Morzine.
We take a security deposit against damages of 250 pounds and this is refunded at the end of the holiday subject to inspection of the property.

This was our first visit to La Blanchetterie & we were warmly greeted by owner Katie and shown around the very clean and well equipped Gite which we found to be very comfortable with pretty furnishings. The quiet rural setting on the edge of the vineyard had good road links to the beaches for our young family of 3 children under 8 years. The pool provided great entertainment too & was kept very clean. Katie & Mike were on hand for tips and advice for restaurants and places to visit, and were very welcoming. An ideal place which we hope to return to.
Our family (mum, dad and three kids, 8, 5 & 1) enjoyed a relaxing week in the farmhouse at La Blanchetterie. The farmhouse itself was large and airy with plenty of rural charm and all necessary amenities. The weather was wonderful, and all (especially the children) enjoyed the pool tremendously, which was in a safe area and shared only with the family staying the adjoining gite. Katie and Mike were very accommodating hosts, and always on hand to help if small children managed to lock themselves in their bedrooms by accident. The farmhouse is located on the Gironde, and is around 20 minutes’ drive from several wonderful beaches. Fabulous mussels are the speciality of several local restaurants, although pizza and ice-cream were available for younger tastes, and the bbq was used on several occasions. Only slight downside is that with a rural retreat everything involves a short drive, mum & dad’s evening relax time was wine and cheese in front of the English TV once the children had gone to bed! But if you can cope with that hardship then we’d thoroughly recommend a week at La Blanchetterie, and hope to be back ourselves again one day.
We stayed at La Blanchetterie a couple of years ago and enjoyed it so much we came back again. Accommodation is ideal for a young family and having the pool is great. The location is perfect and there are lots of beaches close by.
We enjoyed our stay at La Blanchetterie, Mike & katie were helpful and welcoming.
The accomodation is spacious and well equipped and has a good size pool. There are several villages / towns within 10 - 15 minutes by car. Cycling or walking is possible along the quiet country lanes draped by the grape vines or sunflower fields. A great place to relax or explore.
A warm welcome from Katie and Mike and always there in the background if needed to organise restaurants or offer suggestions for exploring the region. Katie cooks a fabulous meal and Mike is the perfect host. The Gite is comfortable, cool and well equiped and the grounds enabled us to enjoy a peaceful relaxing experience. The surrounding areas were all visited and enjoyed including a wonderful day at Chateau D'Angludet where we were made most welcome and enjoyed a fantastic wine tasting. The local oysters and moulles should not be missed! Two adults and two teenagers thought it was the best holiday ever. What more can I say.
This was our 3rd visit in 4 years and once again we had a really relaxing time either at the beach or the pool or just wandering/biking around local attractions. We had 2 weeks of great weather with the kids enjoying the pool everyday plus the essential outdoor eating and drinking. Lastly must say a big thank you to Katie and Mike for being great hosts - we always tried to get back for beer o'clock!
Chenac is situated in a great location with something for everyone. There are fantastic beaches, the closest, Meschers, being just 10 minutes away, St Georges de Didonne 15 minutes and Royan 20 minutes, and all with a variety of water sports. There are a selection of great golf courses at Saintes, Royan, Cognac and La Rochelle. Anyone who like walking and cycling there are endless trails to follow with plenty of birds watching and wild life to sport. And of course endless chances to sample the wines and cognac of the region. Of course should you wish to you can simply laze about by the pool and enjoy the peace.
The very pretty ports of Mortagne and Les Monards are very close by with their choice of restaurants and bars to sample the local cuisine. There are also weekly markets selling lots of fantastic local produce.
