A true slice of Greece. The most beautiful villa and The most breathtaking views. Hosts were fantastic! And couldn’t be more helpful. It’s was a pleasure to meet Helen and Angelos.Totally recommend. And we will be back!
Living the dream!
If you want a holiday home full of charm, fun with bags of character and stunning views, Villa Sofia is for you! Yes, we went to the villa thinking it had a lot to live up to after reading the other reviews but as soon as we walked into the courtyard we knew this was exactly what we wanted and needed. The peace and quiet of the house and beautiful garden and surroundings immediately put us into holiday mode, within minutes the children were exploring the garden and then straight into the plunge pool. The tomatoes, aubergines, peppers, melon, cucumbers and lemons we picked each day were yet another surprise and bonus. The locals are friendly and kind and make you feel part of the community. Angela meet us at the airport and was on hand with her husband Tony to help and advise with all any queries throughout the holiday - a very nice couple. We also meet Pete the owner who welcomed us and made us feel as if the villa belonged to us. Kefalonia is such a beautiful Island with lots to offer, fantastic scenery, very good fresh food, great local wine and amazing beaches. Ten days was not enough to discover all the Island has to offer and use Sofia to her full potential. We will definitely be back as Villa Sofia is now a part of us! You really do have to stay there to truly appreciate how wonderful it is! Thank you to all for such a lovely time! Freddie, Rima and Bella from Northants. Andrew, Nicola, Olivia and Xavier from Oxon.
Images can hardly represent the beuty of this place. Only once you set your foot in the house and the garden around it you could realize where did you end up! The villa hosted two families (9 all together) most confortably and it was very hard to determine who enjoyed it more: children or grown-ups. Probably the most inspiring place we have been to so far!
Paradise Revisited . . . . Again!
This was our fourth visit to Kefalonia in as many years, and our third stay at Villa Sofia. We wouldn’t normally visit the same place, let alone the same accommodation, more than once, but having travelled the world over the past 30 years, we know when we have found perfection.
Kefalonia is beautiful, but it is Villa Sofia that keeps bringing us back. It is totally enchanting. The villa has a charm all of its own, it looks as though it could be 150 years old. The gardens are a haven for wildlife. The swallows were building their nest, the lizards sunning themselves in the early morning sun, and the bee eaters soaring overhead. The fruit trees supplying our breakfast each morning, and this year Angela and Tony had planted strawberry plants, which seemed to produce strawberries overnight!!
Being our fourth visit to Kefalonia, we have visited most of the islands tourist destinations, which gives us the perfect excuse for spending the vast amount of our time at Villa Sofia, gazing out across the green countryside to the mountain and sea beyond. We really do have to make a conscious effort to go to the beach, which itself is fantastic with sandy beach and shallow warm waters, even though it’s only a ten minute car ride away.
The weather was perfect as usual (it is Greece after all).
Many thanks to Angela and Tony for making our stay so enjoyable, the strawberries, and the newly created pirate ship which children will absolutely love.
See you both next time.
Ali and Mark.
Villa Sofia is a very special place. We arrived late at night with our 4 boys and woke up the next morning to find ourselves in an amazing spot. The views out to sea and across to Mount Ainos and Zakynthos are stunning. Angela and Tony made us so welcome and helped to make the stay relaxing by creating a pirate boat for the boys.... therefore keeping them happy playing and giving us time to do nothing! The gardens, fruit trees, treehouse, hammock, the list goes on.... just made it all the more special. The outdoor shower was a big hit with all of us.... just wish it was warm enough here in Norfolk for one! The place is very magical and hard to leave to venture out to see more of Kefalonia. When we did we really enjoyed the nearby beaches and tavernas on the beach. Kefalonia is a very beautiful island despite losing many of its old buildings in the earthquake. The kids enjoyed playing 'spot the survivor'.... houses/ buildings that had not fallen down! We will definitely be back to this house it is so magical, the photos do not do it justice.
We saw a fair amount of birds without leaving the grounds of the house.... swallows nesting in the porch and swooping on the meadow in front of the house, buzzards circling, jays taking grubs from the garden, bea-eaters circling above the swallows.
Just wish we could have stayed longer..... Villa Sofia we miss you! Many thanks Tony and Angela, see you again!
It was a real pleasure to meet you guys and thank you for taking such good care of Villa Sofia. The boys are absolutely delightful and I am glad they made full use of all the wonderful things to do here - we love it when our guests really fall under the spell of this place. We look forward to welcoming you all back whenever you can spare the time and Yes! next time please stay longer. Tony & Angela
Villa Sofia is a dream!
Usually when you book a place to stay on your holiday you first decide where you want to go, then you start looking for a nice property in the area. Not so with Villa Sofia. The minute I found it (quite by chance) online, I knew this is where we had to stay - no matter what the surrounding area was like! The photos alone show that this is a magical place.
And it truly didn't disappoint. The villa, terraces and surrounding gardens are spacious and secluded enough that you can wander around in your nightie all day. The view through olive trees over fields to the sea beyond is stunning at any time of day. The plunge pool is glorious. The many places to cook, sit and eat mean you never get bored even if you stay at home every night, and as soon as we had worked out the wood-fired pizza oven we made amazing pizza creation after pizza creation every night.
The villa itself is huge and each bedroom has its own bathroom so 3 couples could easily stay here without getting in each other’s hair at all. There is everything you need from beach towels and things to lie on, sunbeds next to the pool, TV and DVD player for bad weather and a fire indoors for colder nights. The kitchen is lovely and right outside the kitchen door are huge bushes of rosemary and oregano. The decor is wonderful. Quite rustic and tastefully thrown together, nothing off the peg at all.
The nearest really nice beach is only a 10 minute drive away. The sea was warm even in later September/early October so everyone way happy, even our little baby. There are lots of supermarkets and places to buy good food within a 15 minutes’ drive so there is really no reason to go any further. We did go on 2 day trips to the north of the island, but really hanging out at home was almost nicer.
Villa Sofia is managed by Angela and Tony, who will give you as many helpful tips and pieces of advice as you wish, or leave you to unwind in peace – whatever you need.
All in all, we'll definitely be back! Thank you Angela & Tony!
Thank you so much for taking time to share your experience of Villa Sofia. It was lovely to meet you guys and we are so pleased that everything was perfect for you and your little one. Your kind words and appreciation makes our job so worthwhile and we really enjoy what we do here. We are looking forward to seeing you again very soon. Kind regards and good wishes
Kefalonia is so steeped in history that you walk on sacred layers of lost civilizations at all times. This is where Odysseus found the wood to make the oars for his ships. His magical island, Ithaki, is just a day trip away. The natural beauty stuns you and you can smell the warm earth, pines and the sea. It is incredibly green and lush and most of the island is still unspoilt by modern development and the progress of tourism. The raw memory of the 1953 earthquake is still talked about as the defining moment in the history of the island and the many ruins tell their own story. Discover the sun drenched beaches, sandy or pebbly. Our main town is only 15 minutes away and is refreshingly local and alive, even in winter. It provides a wonderful alternative to village life for those wishing to experience a larger Greek town as well.
Come explore this most beautiful dream place - where tourism takes a back seat to soul and where a memorable hideaway is never far away!
