From our guest L. Kerr, that keeps coming year after year:
Since you understand English so well, and it is so much easier for me to write English than Portuguese, I take the liberty of writing these lines in English!
First of all to confirm that the stay I had at Villa Rosa together with my childhood friend the two last weeks of April this year just confirmed the positive impression I had previously had of the house, the surroundings and the charming town of Tavira itself!!
The peace and quietness of the house, the handy proximity to Tavira and the endless possibilities of activities on the Algarve Coast makes Villa Rosa an ideal vacation spot!! It was really one of the best vacations I have had in a long time!!

We actually stayed in this villa twice. We stayed all of Feb. in 2014 and then returned for the months of Feb. and March in 2015. Needless to say we enjoyed it very much the first time or we wouldn't have returned. Villa Rosa is in a beautiful country setting about 5 minutes drive from the town of Tavira. It is on a quiet country road that only has one or two cars a day. There are many quiet roads for walking through the farms and orange groves with very little traffic. If you are so inclined it is about a 45 minute walk to Tavira but you really need a car if you live here.
The villa is small, but comfortable. It has two bedrooms, each with its own en suite, a third bathroom, a kitchen with all modern conveniences and all of the utensils necessary to cook meals, and a small living room with a flat screen TV. The TV is hooked up to a combination CD player and VHS player. There is a library of old movies to watch. The TV does get some stations, mainly Portuguese, and SKYE and CNN news. There is free wifi available that is acceptable but not super fast. What makes Villa Rosa special is its setting. It is located in the middle of a 25 or so acre estate called Quinta Mimosa. There are orange trees growing on the estate from which you can pick the oranges for fresh juice in the morning. There is a covered patio outside the kitchen for meals and an old stone barbeque a few steps away. We often purchased fresh fish from the market and sat outside with our barbequed fish, vegetables, and a bottle of wine. There is an in ground pool that is kept spotlessly clean by Emanuel, the gardener, and lots of comfortable lounges for sunbathing or quietly reading a book in the shade.
If peace and tranquility, a beautiful setting, and a comfortable place to live are what you are looking for this place will suit you. If being near the action and being able to walk to the bars and restaurants is more your style you should choose a place in town.
We stayed at Villa Rosa in March and had a really relaxing week. The villa is tucked away in the hills above Tavira and sits in some extensive grounds filled with orange, clementine, and lemon trees. The views are amazing.
The villa was very well equipped, we cooked most evenings and always had everything we needed. There are two bedrooms, both with ensuite and a third bathroom also with a shower. We only used one bedroom and bathroom but they were all fitted to a high standard. The lounge was comfortable and had a fireplace which would be welcome if you stay over the winter (we were warm enough without it in march)
It wasn't quite warm enough to need the pool, but nethertheless the pool area was lovely and we spent several afternoons sat out there in the sun.
A hire car is required. We did walk down into Tavira a couple of times (about 45mins to 1hr) but the road isn't that quiet so if you're going to go for dinner at night time it's probably best to drive. We ate at the Konihoor Indian Resturant after reading some positive reviews on trip adviser and we weren't disappointed, very nice!
We like to try out lots of different places, but we will definitely look up villa Rosa if we go to Portugal again.
ps - Internet is available via a 3G dongle that worked fine for general web browsing and checking mail etc
Sent: Thu, October 14,
Finally a hello from us from Germany. How are you doing? Hopefully as good as we do after our phantastic holidays at the Algarve. I wanted to write to you already last week, but.... once back to the office finding lots of work on your desk and then also at home some work to do, you hardly find time for anything else.
On October 2 we came well back home. Temperatures were not too bad when we arrived at 10.30 pm at Düsseldorf airport, still 15°C, but rain (back to Germany, no doubt, we could not be in any other place). Next day it was sunny, blue sky and 23°C, still a bit of summer which lasted till last Sunday, October 10, with temperatures between 20 and 23°C during day. However, since Monday this week it is cooler, only up to 14°C during day. This morning it was grey, cloudy and only 0°C around 7.00 am, autumn is coming. How is the weather around Tavira and Castro Marim? Is it still nice and warm? Can you still enjoy a bit of summer time?
We want to let you know once more that we enjoyed our holidays at Villa Rosa very, very much and came back home very relaxed and in very good mood. It is really a wonderful house with a beautiful garden and nice swimming pool. Is it your house? We liked it more than Casa do Alto, whereas this is also a nice house. However, Villa Rosa is really excellent and also the area around the house - one day we made a walk outside Villa Rosa on the ground of Quinta Mimosa and we discovered all the fruit trees around: oranges, lemons, apples, kakis, pomegranates and even mangos! It is so silent around Villa Rosa and you feel like being in the middle of nature, well, you are - really excellent. We think already of coming back there next year around the same time, i.e. September till beginning of October, for another three weeks if the house is not yet rented. The house is very well maintained, the gardener and the pool man took always good care of garden and pool, and of course, also the house service was very well. And with all the books and videos you could stay there the whole winter - you would have enough books to read and plenty of videos to watch. We never found such a lot before in a holiday house.
We stayed at Villa Rosa in June 2009 - sadly unable to stay this year but we will return. It is remote, but not too much so - a car is necessary. The villa is in stunning grounds, with beautiful fruit trees (we still dream of fresh orange juice every day!!) and is very well equipped with everything you would ever need. Aelaxing stay is what we wanted - and what we got a hundred times over
The property was very clean and tidy and we had a few goodies left for us which was a nice touch
When we arrived in Tavira we found we were lost but after a phone call asking for help we were met in Town and accompanied back to the villa...
It was hard to leave it but there are many things around the area to see - Tavira was gorgeous and unspolit, true Portugal - and the beaches around were a joy - we loved Praia Verde in particular.
Tavira had many excellent restaurants - hard to choose from, and the supermarket fish counter in Tavira could rival, even better, any good UK fishmongers.
The only tiny criticism is that we would like slightly more comfortable seating in the living room.
We talk of Villa Rosa often and hope to return next year.
Myself and my partner have stayed in many villas in the Algarve and this is undoubtedly the best villa we have ever stayed in.
Where to start?
Firstly, the villa is located in the hillside, with lovely views out over the hillside groves. Yet is only five minutes from Tavira and a number of lovely restaurants, and the long 14km beach. So peace perfect peace all day and night, with the villa splendidly isolated.
The villa sits within large multiple acres with large orange grove - and yes you do go out and pick the oranges fresh from the trees for orange juice in the morning.
The previous reviews have this villa right, independent air-con in the bedrooms and living room, underfloor heating if its a bit chilly, and lovely big kitchen for cooking - home from home.
Each bedroom has large en-suite shower-room, with walk-in overhead wet-room style shower. Loads of hot water always on tap when needed.
Kitchen has all the bits and bods needed, all modern, hob, oven, dishwater, tumble dryer, and a big bonus a very large stand-up fridge and freezer. Breakfast bar for eating - sits three/four people easily.
Outside large covered area with dining table with easy sitting for six, and at hand the built-in barbecue.
Pool has four beds for lazy lying out in - and measures 5 metres by 7 metres.
Living room has large couch and large Panasonic plasma screen with Sky attached - although as Free view box only - but backed up with combined video and DVD player.
Sell the kids, hock the car, and stay at this villa - just not at any time we wish to go.
We have stayed in loads of villas across the Algarve and we can honestly say this is the nicest we have ever stayed in.
Where to begin?
The location is perfect - about five minutes drive from Tavira - but far enough away that there is perfect peace and quiet both during the day and at night. It is "out in the country" and therefore all views are of farm land.
The villa is completely secluded in its own few acres of grounds, beautifully tended and looked after - and yes it does have orange groves for you to pick your own fresh oranges for juice in the morning.
The pool is five metres by seven metres and looks out over breathtaking grounds stretching out for a couple of miles. It ranges from two feet six inches deep at shallow end to five feet six inches at deep end. It is checked each day by the gardener and so is lovely clean and wonderful to sun yourself lying beside.
Internally the villa is really well-equipped with air-con in both bedrooms as well as the lounge - all independently controlled. Underfloor heating is also installed across the whole property.
Each bedroom has large king size bed, as well as full en-suite with wet room overhead showers - with bags of hot water - but don't forget also has underfloor heating and independent air-con.
The living room has one large couch, with a corner placed fireplace - perfect for winter evenings. Sky television is also available - but only as equivalent of freeview - but with a nice big Panasonic plasma television - as well as combined video and dvd player.
The kitchen is big and well-equipped - so easy to cook in, with three gas rings and one electric ring, fan oven and microwave as well as having the barbecue externally. Really big fridge and freezer - an absolute boon, as well as dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer complete the kitchen. Internally there is a breakfast bar - bit friendly for four, perfect for two or three, and is supplemented with a nice large, covered area for dining seating up to six in comfort.
As a villa it suits a couple perfectly - as well as if you have a child or two. However for two couples would probably be a bit "friendly" in terms of overall space. However kids may get a bit bored as the villa is "out in the country". As the villa is so close to Tavira, it makes eating out there so easy, you will end up going in most evenings.
Would have no hesitation in recommending this villa to anyone.
Tavira is a old city with 33 Churches a Roman Bridge and ruins from Moorish heritage and ancient times. The RB bridge is used only by pedestrians to go over to the other side of the city and walk along the Gilão River.
Along the river there are many cafes and restaurants. They are full of charm and the waiters and waitresses are courteous and friendly.
Ask for a bica (very strong small coffee) or galão, - milky coffee - and enjoy your morning or afternoon while the natives pass by and look after their daily routines in a calm and educated way. Stress doesn't live here!
Visit the archaic lanes built from hand-hewn stone where you find the local people and artisans. The Tavira's Town hall has excursions to visit the many churches in the region and ruins from the Roman and Islamic heritage visible in Catholic society.
Points of interest are many and are waiting to be discovered.
Other Activities: good eating and drinking
Golf: The Benamor golf course is minutes (5 min by car) away. The Golf course of Quinta da Ria is about 10 minutes from the Villa.
The Quinta da Ria is one of the most beautiful golf courses in the Algarve or in the world. The landscaping is absolutely unspoiled. With great views to the sea - with an intense blue, always changing always beautiful.
