This house is a real Gem! Private, comfortable, spacious, peaceful, and relaxing; You will enjoy the lush. luxurious landscape in this peaceful paradise, away from the crowds, yet close to many pristine beaches. This one acre estate is located in one of Kona's most desirable neighborhoods, four miles north of Kona village, at 900 ft elevation where the days are 10 degrees cooler than the coast and the humidity is far more comfortable. You can open your windows all year long and enjoy the breezes. You'll love the spaciousness of the 1 acre lot with no neighbors in sight and the 180 degree view of the Ocean will take your breath away.

900 feet is the best elevation for many of the delicious, exotic fruits growing here and also allows for great coastline and ocean views.

Come, enjoy the Kona Heavens Hideaway as your home away from home. It feels like you're out in the country, yet everything you need is just a short drive away . Staying here is the best of both worlds!

You will be 3 miles from the coast but the temperature is 10 degrees cooler during the day with far less humidity. In the hills above town you will have stunning views, great comfort and 1 acre of Lush gardens and fruit with privacy.

About Sandra

Aloha,

My name is Sandra and I have lived in Kona since 1970. I came from California in search of cleaner beaches to ponder my future. As it turned out, I stayed - and have loved living here ever since. I have traveled the world and must say 'there is no place like home'. When my children grew and moved out I discovered that this home was too big for me, so I turned downstairs portion into a vacation retreat, which includes the pool, yard and downstairs kitchen and I'm so very happy to share this precious, peaceful place with visitors and share my knowledge of the Island as requested. I look forward to meeting you.

Sandra purchased this house in 1990

Why Sandra chose Kailua-Kona

This particular area of Kona is perfect as far as climate and location. I have lived in many different areas of the Island, and this location is, by far, the BEST.

At 900 ft. elevation, the great views are expansive and the climate, temperate. Coastal living can be very hot in Hawaii, while we are enjoying soft trade winds to keep the temperatures perfect. I also love this location because there are approximately 12 world class golf courses within a short drive, and the harbor is just 3 miles away, a launching place for many water activities. We are on one full acre , a beautiful park with no neighbors below us, which gives us all the privacy you could ask for.

What makes this house unique

If you choose to stay home one day and forego the many close, exciting, fun activities that the Big Island has to offer, this is what a typical day may look like. . . Wake up to the sweet sounds of song birds, lounge around your private pool and soak up the warming rays of the sun while awaiting your turn for an incredible, nurturing, relaxing massage by one of Kona's most experienced and well trained medical Massage Therapists (me : )). Leisurely prepare some breakfast in the outdoor kitchen while enjoying melodious Hawaiian music piped out to the pool area as the palms gently sway and the wind chimes sing to entertain you. IF you feel like going for a little walk, take hold of the fruit pickers and roam around the acre; in season you may find avocados, mangos, papaya, banana, zapote, pineapple and much more / help yourself.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Sandra's place is wonderful. It's beautiful and exactly as described. Exclusive use of the awesome pool and hot tub were great! It's close far enough out to feel private, yet close to places for groceries and supplies. We used the outdoor kitchen every day. We would definitely consider it again should we be lucky enough to return!

Well appointed accommodations and supportive hosts

  • 5 of 5

We've stayed in numerous VRBO properties on Kona and this ranks as one of the best as far as how the the accommodations are set up. The kitchen is well stocked with necessary cookware, serving wear, and appliances, which is not always the case. We've experienced other places where such things are a haphazard collection of dated items and poorly organized. Also the pool equipment and patio furniture were in great shape. The large combined bedroom and sitting area is spacious and comfortably decorated and has a view looking towards the coast. Our hosts Sandra and Ken live on the property and were always available to answer questions, and gave us many excellent recommendations from where to snorkel to places to eat. We also found the property location near the intersection of Hina Lani and Hwy 190 gave us more options for traveling both north and south than some of the other places we'd stayed, so it's convenience to facilitating us getting to place more quickly is a plus.

Owner's Response: Aloha Shah, Thank you for your kind words; please come again. I hear from so many people that this place is even better than the pictures, but I'm not a photographer and it's difficult to capture "comfort" and "exquisite" in pictures. I'm happy your family had a good Kona experience and I was able to accommodate you. Much Aloha and Mahalo Sandra

Clean, huge outdoor space, fun pool!

  • 4 of 5

We loved our short stay here. The outdoor space is huge and beautiful. Pool is fun.house is small but comfortable. The only downsides were the jacuzzi didn’t get super hot, just warm, and there were lots of bugs, but that can’t be helped! Other than that it is a beautiful property I highly recommend it.

Owner's Response: Mahalo for your review. I wish you had told me about the temperature of the hot tub. We had a new one put in the morning before you arrived and it must have needed an adjustment, that's all. The house is 1200 square feet as stated in the description, so I'm sorry you were expecting more but happy you had a good time anyhow.

Was a fantastic stay

  • 5 of 5

Our family loved staying here, truly felt like a paradise. The accommodations were great, we really liked that the kitchen and dining area were outdoors, not common to us coming from SD. Our 3 kids all play soccer so they had plenty of room to kick the ball around and play frisbee in the huge yard. Picking fresh fruit from the property was awesome too. The kids ate a ton of fresh starfruit while we were there. We received a botanical tour from the yard care guys that came by to mow and clean the property and then one of them invited our kids to join the local youth soccer club at their next pick-up game time which they did (another highlight for them). The pool and hot tub were used a lot, we got some really awesome silhouetted pictures of our kids doing poses on the diving board at sunset. The view is breathtaking but even more so at sunset. We also enjoyed the badminton. Always felt like there was something for everyone to stay occupied with. Sandra was very accommodating and always responsive if we had a question. Although this was our first VRBO experience, I’m not sure there’s a better property out there.😉?

Magical time on a beautiful island. Sandra’s garden is just amazing and made our stay extra special

  • 5 of 5

The garden and outdoor space are exceptional and a wonderful place to hang out complete with volley ball net, pool, hot tub, outdoor kitchen and fruit trees galore. And you have it all to yourself with a killer view of the ocean and cooling trade winds. The main room is spacious with plenty of room to spread out in. You are away from the noisy commercial center of Kona and a super short drive from it if you want to get to town. A perfect place to make your base and easily explore the island from. Sandra has lots of top tips to share and creates a warm friendly retreat for her guests. Mahalo!

A great location lush property kitchen-pool-jacuz

  • 4 of 5

Everything was great except that our chef had problems with no oven in the kitchen. I would have liked maybe one sofa bed in the main room. But we had 11 people in our group. Nice with kitchen, bar & pool & jacuzzi all close together. Great views at this altitude & good for sleeping. I slept under the stars. Lush gardens & yard area. I would stay here again.

Public tennis courts, many world class golf courses, great shopping and lots of different ocean sports are available within minutes from the house.

Kona is known for its world-class marlin fishing. We are almost directly above Honokohau Harbor which has a fun restaurant for lunch and is also where the fishing charters and many other ocean activities (sunset sails, manta ray snorkeling and diving cruises, zodiak tours, whale watching etc.) are based. There are some wonderful white sand beaches and tide pool areas within a 10 or 15 minute drive. Costco is our closest market and is a great place to stock up for your vacation. It is also the most economical place to buy gas.
