Aimeo: Cottage with character, charm, and sea views in the Bay of Islands

Bedrooms 2
Space 1,076 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 1 - 7 nights

About the property

2 bedrooms + bathrooms, 2 min from an almost private swimming beach, bush walks

From Aimeo Cottage, you will have a spectacular view of the Veronica Chanel and Waitangi with the Treaty Ground and the golf course.

This holiday home has 2 comfortable dbl, bedrooms with their respective bathrooms, located in the upper part of the house. There is a fully equipped kitchen with dining area and a comfortable living area with bookshelves, a TV (Sky), a DVD player, a video, and a stereo unit.

From here and from the master bedroom, you can see the sail boats coming from and go to Paihia and Russell, the store from the international marina Opua. Sometimes, dolphins can be seen from the breakfast table. The master bedroom is equipped with 2 king beds that you can be transformed into a super king bed. The second bedroom has en-suite bathrooms, 2 king beds, and garden view.

It is completely separated at the bottom of the studio and usually inhabited by me.

I will be pleased and able to welcome you.

For golfers: generally and especially here in the north of New Zealand, there are almost deserted golf courses, so no waiting or registrations are necessary. There are about 10 'green fees' around us (a half day trip).

I have 2 sets available for my guests.

Seglersparadies: The Bay of Islands with its 144 islets beat sailor. Sail boats can be rented per day or week. It is similar to the dinghies available in Russell and Opua.

If you do not want or cannot sail by yourself, there are daily trips, with modern sailing boats, monohull, Catamaran, Trimaran, or the traditional vintage 'Tucker Thompson.'

You will enjoy the famous the 'Cream Trip' and 'Hole in the Rock' trip with good comments and sightseeing on the sea.

Hiking and Maori culture: There are many short and more challenging trails (Bush Walks) located in the immediate vicinity.

In Waitangi (New Zealand birthplace, you will find the Treaty House, in which the Maoris people, in 1842, passed the land to the English people). You can learn a lot about the Maori culture, the Treay House, and large war canoe.

In an evening, Maori dances are performed, and typical Erofen food is served.

About Annie Hormann

In 1974 my husband and I set sails from Berlin to reach 1990 this peaceful paradise here in the North of New Zealand , Bay of Islands.

In Tahiti ( Moorea) we had a 15 years stopover. I managed a resort hotel and my husband showed guests rorm all over the world the islands per boat.

We have put anchor down here and would be happy to accommodate you in our house.

Annie Hormann purchased this house in 1990

Why Annie Hormann chose Okiato

After sailing between islands half around the world we were happy to settle here in Russell, Okiato. On top of the hill overlooking the Bay of Islands. The shortest way to come to Russell, Okiato is per car ferry. So you get the feeling beeing on an island again.

There is a road which takes you along the coastline, very spectacular, but winding and 1 12/2 hours longer.

From the house you can reach a swimmming beach ( almost private) or bushwalks within 2 minutes.

The Waitangi Int. Golfcourse is about 1/2 hour away.

What makes this house unique

Very quiet in a cul de sac road, breathtaking view to the Bay of Islands,

bushwalks and swimming form your doorsteps

7 min. drive to romantic Russell township with supermarkets, med. center, cinema, internet cafe, restaurants, galleries and museum, churches.

For children under 5 years old not suitable. Smoking is allowed outside. In a separate, private building, there is a washing machine with drying room. I do your laudry for $3 per laudry bag.. In closet next to the bedrooms , you will find bed linen, towels, beach towels, and tablecloths. Aimeo Cottage is especially suitable for long term renters because of its good facilities and amenities. My last guests stayed half a year. I will be pleased and able to welcome you here.

Lovely property with everything you would need.

  • 4 of 5

Annie was a great host. The house is great and very comfortable. It has a beautiful view and a lovely balcony to sit on. If you are a walker you can go on the track to Russell. It's 4 sections and they are 35 mins each. You need to be equiped and maybe get someone to drive you back. We did the first part and enjoyed it. The car ferry is very close but allow for delays in peak season. We preferred Long Beach for swimming. Overall we would recommend Annie and Aimeo Cottage and we all enjoyed our week long stay. 5 stars are not enough!!!

  • 5 of 5

Annie's lovely cottage is everything you want for your stay at the Bay of Islands - and then some: it is spacious, clean, and decorated with Old World charm. The view over the Bay is fantastic and the neighborhood is quaint and quiet. If you enjoy cooking your own meals (like I do) you will appreciate the well appointed kitchen. Not only can you seat 10 people at the dinner table - you have enough plates to serve a 5-course meal ( not to mention the professional knives - sharp, thank you Annie!). My husband and I stayed for a week (in the middle of winter) and enjoyed every single day. Russell is only a 10-minute drive away and the ferry is just around the corner. Oh, and Annie's bread is to die for - make sure you get a taste.

We can only recommend the place and would definitely come back - Thank you for a wonderful week, Annie!

A Dream Holidy House

  • 5 of 5

What a great house, the owners house, she moves on her boat or to a friend, so every thing you want is there, in the kitchen even an poached egg boiler, wok, mixer, breadmaker etc. living space with lots of books to read , info about NZ and TV, sky and a magnificent view to the Bay of Islands. Two bedrooms with extra large comfortable beds, a deck with sunshine from early morning till sunset. Birdsong and tranquility at the same time. Short walk to a small swimming beach, 8 min drive to Russell where we enjoyed culture, good food and Long Beach.

The owner has a studio on the ground level, which she uses from time to time and we were happy to get a lot of information about what to do and see, great service!!!!

We will recommend this place to all our firends and hope to be back again one day. Thanks again!!!!

Ruhige Lage mit traumhaftem Blick

  • 5 of 5

Alles Gute, Annie

Okiato (The first capital of New Zealand), a quiet secluded peninsula, a subdivision of Russell, 9 km away

Russell is not only an idyllic small harbour, but also romantic and historical place. Before colonization, it was an important trading port for ships and whalers. The bullet holes from the recent conflict between Maori people and Europeans are still visible on the walls of the first Christian Church of New Zealand.

Today, it is a resort with about 1000 permanent residents from all over the world.

There is an interesting museum, dedicated to Captain Cook and the Maori culture. Pompallier House was the first Catholic mission, printing, and old customs station. Today, there is a police station, galleries, cafés, restaurants, small supermarkets, and a port for sailing, as well as motor boat trips in Bay of Islands. Russell is also famous for the deep sea fishing charter (Zane Grey). In the Sword Fish Club, you can watch the giant Taxidermy fish.
