This beautiful villa was built as our family home in 2003. We offer it for holiday rentals between April and the end of October. The villa has the Alojamento Local short term holiday let rental licence (number 12733/AL). It is situated in a quiet cul-de-sac, with only 2 other villas nearby. The views from the house are fantastic. There is a private swimming pool (with optional child safety fence), extensive sun terraces with sun loungers, and a BBQ area with table and 8 chairs for outdoor meals. There are 4 bedrooms. The master bedroom upstairs is air-conditioned and has a super king bed, an en-suite bathroom and a private terrace. There is an en-suite double bedded room with a/c, a twin bedded room, and a bedroom with a pair of bunk beds and a bed settee. In addition to the en-suite bathrooms, there is a large family bathroom, and a shower room. The bright sitting room overlooks the pool and has 3 patio doors, a dining area, and a wood burning fireplace. There is free Wi-Fi with high speed broadband. We have the latest Wi-Fi Sonos music system so you can play your music from your smart phone or laptop. There is a fax/telephone, HD TV with satellite UK TV reception, DVD player/recorder, and CD/i-pod stereo. The kitchen is very well equipped, and has an additional dining table and chairs.The villa is double glazed, centrally heated, and is gated / fenced with secure parking.

Casa Pôr do Sol is fully registered as a rental property with the local authority (Alojamento Local) and complies with all health and safety requirements.

HOW TO GET THERE AND VILLA LOCATION: There are several low cost airlines which fly to Faro, such as Jet2, Easyjet, Ryanair, Monarch.

The house is approximately 1 hour's drive from Faro airport. It is an easy journey, and is quiet motorway almost all the way. We have a discount arrangement with a local car hire company who will meet you at the airport. We will provide details of car hire when we confirm your reservation. Alternatively, there is a train from Faro to Lagos (the nearest large town to the house), or there is a low cost minibus service directly from the airport to the house. We will provide location maps, and detailed directions to find the house from Faro airport.

Casa Pôr do Sol is located on the outskirts of Praia da Luz approximately 1km from the village centre. The villa is on a very quiet road, which is a cul-de-sac. There is virtually no passing traffic, as there is only one other villa beyond ours.

The location is perfect for golfers, as you have 4 good courses within 10 minutes drive from the house.

SHOPPING: Praia da Luz, 1 km away, has a good selection of shops, including 2 supermarkets (Baptista and Spar). Baptista caters for British tourists, and has a big selection of British products. They also have an excellent bakery, and newsagent which sells UK daily newspapers.

Lagos, 4 km from the villa, is a beautiful town, with a fantastic range of shops, plus at least 5 very large supermarkets (Intermarche, Continente, Lidl, Aldi, Pingo Doce). Prices in these supermarkets are lower than those in Praia da Luz.

For those who enjoy outlet shopping, there is the Algarve Shopping Park at Guia, which is about half way between the villa and Faro Airport (30 minutes drive), and Aqua Shopping Mall in Portimao (20 minutes drive). They both have a great selection of clothes shops, and a very good food hall.

BEACHES: The nearest beach to the villa is Praia da Luz (which means beach of light). This beach can get very busy in high season, so be adventurous and go further afield! There are lots of beaches along the south coast, and up the west coast. Our advice is to head west and explore the beaches, heading towards Sagres - famous for the navigation school where the Portuguese explorers learned their craft. The best beaches are less accessible, eg down bumpy tracks, but they don't all have facilities such as cafes. Two really nice ones are Furnas and Figuera. Two others with good restaurants are Zavial and Ingrina. Heading north from Cape St Vincent, up the west coast, the beaches are wilder and much quieter. Some nice ones are Castelejo, Cordama, and the famous surfing beach Armado, and Carrapateira. The things to be aware of is that very few of the west coast beaches have lifeguards, whereas the larger beaches on the south coast do. If you enjoy walking, there is an almost unlimited choice of beautiful routes, many of which are signed.

About Tim and Caroline Batten

We are an early-retired early 60's couple from the Pennine town of Holmfirth, where we live on a small farm. We have 3 grown up children, 2 cats and 12 hens. We have been going to the west Algarve for over 30 years, and built our first house there in the mid 1980's.

Why Tim and Caroline Batten chose Lagos region

This is our 2nd house in Praia da Luz. We had it built in 2003, and is only 200 metres away from our first house! Originally just used by ourselves, our family and close friends, we have now started to offer it for rental over the summer period to help cover the high running costs. We spend much of the winter living in the villa. We like the area very much, especially the panoramic views, the fantastic sunsets, and the very quiet location......and yet we are only 1km from Luz centre. Please note this property is fully licensed for short term holiday lets (Licence number 12733/AL). Many advertised properties are not!

What makes this villa unique

The views, the quiet location, the privacy, and the close proximity to Praia da Luz and Lagos. Also, fantastic for bird watching, especially in the autumn.

We are keen bird watchers, and this is our first time in the Algarve. We spent 2 days at Cape St Vincent and saw many rare migrating birds. The rest of the time we spent at the beautiful villa, and saw an amazing variety of birds. Great holiday, and superb villa. Thanks!

There is also a cot available. The Master bedroom and the Double bedroom have new wall mounted Air-Conditioning units which also heat and de-humidify. The Double and twin bedrooms also have central ceiling fans.

Notes:
The villa is on three levels; the living areas (Kitchen, Sitting Room, Utility Room, Shower/Toilet) are on the lower level; up six steps to three of the bedrooms (Double, Twin, and Children’s' bedroom) and the Family Bathroom; then up about eight more steps to the Master bedroom, en-suite Bathroom, and sun terrace. There are large spacious wardrobes in each bedroom. The villa has an environmentally friendly sewerage system, which has an underground treatment unit. The water produced from this is used by the computerised garden irrigation system. The unit conserves all water from the villa, and rainwater is also collected. It is important that no non-biodegradable materials are put down the drains. Please note that the maid service is 3 times a week (Mon, Thur, Sat) not daily. The location of the villa is very convenient. It is a pleasant 15 minutes walk to the centre of Luz (i.e. the beach) where there is an excellent supermarket with a bakery. Our villa management agent is in Luz.

Superb villa and views in a nice quiet area

We had a very relaxing week in this beautiful comfortable spacious villa with superb views. We would reccomend it to anyone visiting Luz and wanting to stay in a secluded area with plenty of space around you. Situated in an up-market area of Luz, with just a few other villas around it. Makes a change from villas that are crammed in together.

Lovely pool, pool area and gardens with a nice barbecue area on the patio.

Plenty of room for a large family, or a couple of families. With their being just two of us we 'rattled around' in the villa!

It was like 'home from home' having evrything you would ever need and more. Tim & Caroline have thought of everything for both adults and children. Bruna the maid came 3 times during our stay and was very helfpul. The welcoming wine was a lovely touch!

Very much looking forward to returning to the villa again in the future.

Beautiful Villa in quiet location

Pre-Stay: booking process was simple and communication from the owner was quick and excellent - no question was left unanswered. The owner offered a grocery basket for our arrival which we declined but when we arrived left a complimentary basket containing wine, tea, coffee, milk and juice which was a nice touch and very welcome! I also took advantage of the car hire company the owner recommended and was very happy with them. Directions to the villa were perfect, including a google map!

Villa: we have stayed in several villas in and around Luz over the years and this has been my favourite! Spacious, traditionally decorated and furnished to a good standard with all the equipment you could need in and around the villa, including a pool safety gate for those with little ones. The bedrooms were spacious and the air con was welcome, the master and double bedrooms had fitted air on and theee was a portable one in the bunk bed room. Bathrooms and ensuites were spacious and very clean (the maids call x3 weekly which is more than usual). We didn't use the BBQ area as we ate out in the evenings at the many good restaurants in the area. We got a weekly shop for breakfast, lunch and snacks form the Intermarchr supermarket in Lagos as the range there is better than local shops but stayed local for bits and bobs as we needed. No, we didn't walk there or back up the rather steep hill on the way back haha!

The views form the villa are spectacular with beautiful sunsets over the vista of an evening, this is well worth the wind than can affect the outside area sometimes. Yes the pool isn't heated, that wasn't an issue for us as an adult only party and was welcome on the days where the temperature soared. I don't propose to tell you about Luz and the surrounding areas themselves as this is a villa review, suffice to say we love it there. We managed to arrange a later than average checkout with the local service company as we had a late flight and they were very helpful yet unobtrusive, we had no issues so didn't need them otherwise but the people we spoke to we're lovely. The gardeners call weekly and we're efficient and as we're the pool guys who call twice weekly to service the pool.

Finally, I was so impressed with the Sonos wifi system in the lounge, I've bought one haha, it's that good.

I can heartily recommend this villa and the owners without hesitation.

Wonderful villa in a peaceful location

My family and I stayed at the villa for a week during the end of August. The villa was spacious enough for 5 teenagers and my partner and I to all have our own space. The bedrooms are clean and bright as was the whole of the villa and surrounding outside space. The views are stunning and sitting on the patio watching the sunsets is a real highlight at the end of the day. The area is peaceful and secluded with a pleasant stroll down to the town, ok there is an uphill to contend with on the way back but it isn't too bad! The handy thing to do is to shop for your groceries and pay for them then ask the store to deliver, we were very impressed by the service and shopping arrived an hour or so after we got back.

The kitchen is very well equipped and there are plenty of extra 'toys' for the pool to use. The wifi is an added bonus keeping the 'teenagers' happy and the Sonos music system was a great added extra!

Tim's communication throughout the booking was excellent, answering queries and helping with suggestions.

Thank you so much for letting us stay in your lovely villa, will highly recommend.

Lovely Villa

Very accurate description, clean and very well maintained.Customer service were very friendly and helpful.Lovely quiet area but within easy reach of many good restaurants and shops.Boat trips from Luz and Lagos are highly recommended.

Superb Villa

We have stayed in several villas in the Algarve over many years and stayed in this one last year. We enjoyed it so much that we booked it again for this year.

The villa is very spacious and is equipped to perfection. There is everything you could ever need.

The rooms are large and comfortable and very tastefully designed. The pool area is large and allows for both sunbathing or sitting in the shade. The pool is cool but very welcome in hot weather.

We enjoyed playing our music from the iPad through the new speaker system via wireless. The wifi is great allowing us all to use our smart phones and iPads.

The villa is surrounded by beautiful plants and the view from the pool area is fantastic, looking out to the hills. We witnessed some beautiful sunsets.

This delightful village overlooks a pretty and sheltered bay, which has a very safe sandy beach and amazing rock formations. It is well supplied with restaurants and beach bars, and there are some excellent cliff walks to neighbouring villages. Whilst the number of private villas in Luz has increased over the last few years, they are of a high quality and the facilities of the village have improved because of this. There is a Water sports school and a Scuba Diving Centre. 5 km away is the medieval walled town of Lagos, which sits on a hillside overlooking the harbour, an impressive new marina and a wide bay of golden sand. It's picturesque cobbled streets have a superb selection of markets, modern shops, restaurants and pavement cafes. At night, there are street entertainers, lively bars and discos. For culture, there are many galleries, museums and monuments. The area around Lagos also has several first class Golf courses, such as Palmares, Quinta da Boavista, and Espiche.

Other Activities: Sunbathing, Jeep Safaris, Motorcycle trail riding, Eating out, Sight seeing.
