|Minimum Stay||4 nights|
'Casa Limone' was built from beautiful natural stone and is surrounded by nature and still central on an elevation in Taorminas! From the lush garden with lemon trees you can get through an enchanting glass veranda on Sicilian tiles (which is used as an additional dining space for bad weather) in the living room in which you will find a walled couch corner (with an additional sleeping accommodation of 100x200cm) with a lot of cosy pillows, an open fireplace in addition to the well-being brings, a flat-screen with DVD/satellite. Through a hallway you can get to the large, open, fully equipped eat-in kitchen and in the dining room with cosy rattan chairs and the 2nd open fireplace, along also in the two friendly and bright bedroom and bathroom. There is an extra room for the washing machine.
The for local conditions very large garden provides shade, breakfast, sun-bathing and picnic areas, depending on your mood. The scent of flowers, oranges, lemons .............
Picciolo golf club: In 30 min. you can reach the only 18 hole golf course in Sicily with the majestic Etna in the background. The beautiful area is located between vineyards, trees and Mediterranean bushes.
The fairways of the course are mainly wavy and have a few water and sand obstacles. What is particularly special for the course is the breath-taking beauty of the landscape: the 18 green holes look like they are stuck in the lava. The most difficult hole is the eleventh, a tight, 387 m long par 4 with water on the right and an exit on the left side of the fairway.
The house is centrally located and yet very quiet only 2 min. walk from Corso Umberto, the pedestrian area of Taormina.
The central location is only accessible by stairs, which are located on both sides of the house. There is a staircase with many steps or from Via Teatro Greco (pedestrian) one staircase with fewer stages, over which one can easily reach the house.
Although it is a beautiful property and well furnished we still haven't recieved our security deposit back from them despite many, many requests. It has been 4 months since we returned home. It has left us uneasy to try and use this website again.
Let me start by saying that this should be a 5-star rating based on the property, location and facilities. The traditionally built and pretty house is very comfortable and well-furnished and equipped, living up to the advertised description and photos. It’s a unique spot. The garden in particular is lovely with lemon and orange trees and views across Taormina as far as the snow-capped and smoking Mt Etna in the distance in one direction and east coast of Sicily in the other, great for enjoying breakfast outside during our Spring visit. The property sits at the top of a hill in the village, away from the roads and is short walk into the multiple bars, restaurants and attractions of Taormina - although you need to be moderately fit to manage the stairs back.
Unfortunately, during our one week stay we became increasingly aware of a strange smell in the house, that initially we put down to previous use of the wood burning fireplaces. We kept the windows open and asked the owner to have this checked as we were concerned that it might have been gas. No action was taken (a request by the owner living overseas to the local caretaker was apparently not followed up) and we subsequently confirmed ourselves on the last day it was in fact a gas leak, and switched off the propane supply into the kitchen, immediately relieving the problem.
Clearly this spoiled the last several days of our holiday and caused my family considerable anxiety at the time as to whether there were any health issues from the (likely) low level inhalation of this type of gas and potentially more serious implication had there been an ignition of the gas. I was disappointed that there was no actual action taken during our visit once we had alerted the owners. Subsequently, we have only received a rather inadequate apology from the owner, on behalf of the caretaker, and our deposit refunded late only after chasing for this. For this review, the 2 star rating is based on “buyer-beware” as I in my opinion the owner hasn’t made adequate provision for safety and unforeseen events – and certainly not offering any meaningful apology or compensating for the same.
As a family of 4 w/ 2 kids we often use this type of accommodation as it provides more comfort, space and flexibility than hotels. Our lesson is that we shouldn’t become complacent with safety, & assume the same safety standards/checks are in place in the rental properties we use and to that end will bring portable gas/fire detectors.
If you’re looking for a perfect vacation rental in Taormina, this isn’t it.This property’s great potential is being ruined by poor management. We’re a family of well-seasoned travelers from the US. We’ve pretty much ‘been there, done that’ all over the World. This is our first negative review, and we feel we must share our experience with others who might consider staying here. This property is being managed by the owner’s cleaning lady, who only speaks Italian. The owners themselves are not in Taormina, and are very hard to reach as they seem to be on a perpetual Holiday themselves. After our stay, it took almost two months, countless emails and filing a complaint with Homeaway to finally receive a partial refund on our electricity usage deposit. The owner withheld the fact from us that their property manager didn’t speak a lick of English. It caused all sorts of problems and issues. Finding a meeting location, for example. We tried calling her mobile, but what’s the point if we cannot understand each other? Hours were wasted until we finally were able to find each other. The air cooling units in two bedrooms were not working when we arrived. We notified the owners via email immediately, it took two days for the cleaning lady to show up, and try to convince us that they were, in fact, working. It’s a middle of August and Africa-hot, and the other two units in the house were working great. It took another 24 hours for the technician to come and fix the units, for which the owners decided to charge us. Upon our arrival, we had a gentleman (a friend of a cleaning lady) help us carry our luggage to the house. We gave him a 20 EUR tip, but the cleaning lady was so adamant and upset, and started yelling about adding another 10 EUR. Who ever tips a porter 30 EUR and why wouldn’t she inform us ahead of time that it would be a fixed rate 30 EUR to help us with the luggage? The check-out time in the contract was stated between 9 and 10 AM. She showed up at the house with the gardener and a plumber at 7:30 and began cleaning. We have paid for 7 days/nights, please allow us to finish packing, have breakfast and get ready for our journey. The gardener was taking care of the property on the day of our departure, it was a jungle when we arrived, why wouldn’t they make it nice for us as well? Same with the plumber: fixing shower head on the day of our departure…
Without a doubt, our week in Taormina would have been much more enjoyable had we stayed at a different property.
I know the photos above look great, but they actually don't even start to convey how magical this place is.
The minute you enter this property, you step into your own private Eden of calm and beauty in bustling, touristy Taormina (your first hint: it's decorated with a subtle Adam & Eve theme, which sums it up perfectly). From exploring the wild fruit-filled gardens below and snacking on nespole right from the tree, to lounging in the yard watching Etna fume, to gazing off at the sea over an afternoon glass of wine, there is literally no where else on earth I would rather be.
I really cannot say enough about this place. I loved it ALL! I loved that the living room welcomes you with the scent of a well used fireplace when you enter, and a friendly yard cat purrs goodbye as you leave. I loved that you are totally removed from the town below, yet literally 90 seconds from it. I loved that the kitchen had all we needed, and that the bed was cozy and the shutters dark, so sleeping late was always an option. I loved that I didn't get even one mosquito bite (I think we got lucky on that one), and that our hosts were so friendly. (My boyfriend loved that there was a washer, ample blankets, cookies on the table, and Radio Capital TiVu. Priorities!)
When it came time to leave, I was as sad as a sinner being kicked out of paradise. But lucky for me we can return anytime my bank balance allows it!
Thanks again, Gabriella - you have an incredible home here!
My husband &I visited this stunning holiday home as part of our honeymoon. We spent the first week of our honeymoon in a hotel in Amalfi, Italy & the second week here in Taormina in this beautiful elevated, private, stone built villa. It was the perfect way to end our very special holiday.
This house is perfect as it offers (VERY) easy access to the thriving Taormina centre (3 minutes walk away), yet is set up off the main road, meaning that you have complete privacy (no houses overlook you) & feel almost as if you are set out in the mountains, which is just the balance that we wanted.
It has easy access to the beach (a pleasant walk away & cable car back up the hill into town), enchanting views of the majestic Etna from house and garden, beautiful views out to the epic coastline & sea. Many a breakfast was enjoyed in the garden facing out to the twinkling blue expanse and many an evening was passed sharing a glass of local wine and fresh produce from the little markets, sat watching the reflection of the lights along the coastline dancing on the dark waves. So romantic.
The inside of the house has a feeling of being in a farm house and is very well done out with all that is required to make this place your home during your stay. The garden is beautiful & well kept with a BBQ, which we took full advantage of. The flora & fruits surrounding you in the garden make this place a little eden & it was often tempting to just pass the days away in the garden, rather than exploring the exciting town and surrounding beauties.
Some things we recommend are walks to the beach & Isola Bella, anything Etna related, the Public Gardens, the Greek Theatre (which has spectacular views of smoking Etna from the ruins of this amazing apitheatre), check out the local cuisine as there are some real gems of restaurants or you can buy fresh pastries in a morning from local shops, fresh pasta, fresh fruit and veg & cheeses. We bought some porcini mushrooms that grow on the side of Mnt Etna & they were the best we've ever tasted! The icecream is a must try here too! The nightlife here is good too, with some great bars & some which stay open until sunrise! We also found a great Jazz bar where we enjoyed live music whilst looking out over the rolling waves.
Gaby and Viktor are friendly & helpful and simply were perfect hosts & provided us with all the information we needed for our holiday.
We would certainly return & would recommend to all wanting a special holiday
The spectacular location, the beautiful coast, the historical centre of the medieval Taormina and the hospitality of the residents of Taormina provide for the charm of the city. Taormina is one of the most beautiful cities in the world! The attractions of the city include the famous Teatro Greco (at the same elevation of the villa) in front of the wonderful natural scenery, which attracts visitors from all over the world. The historical pedestrian zone Corso Umberto full of designer stores, the many small alleys with excellent and cosy restaurants and bars offers you diverse, enchanting nights. Taormina is also a very good starting point for excursions, for example, to Mount Etna, Aeolian Islands, to the Unesco-protected baroque cities of Modica, Noto & Ragusa or to the medieval cities in the cliffs Castelmola, Syrakus, Agrigento, with the Greek temples.... more than 1000 years of history come together on this island!
