|Minimum Stay||3 - 7 nights|
Herrukot, our holiday home built in 2015, is located in a gorgeous isolated location right on the lakeside. The house contains two separate bedrooms, each with very comfortable beds that are 90x200 cm in size, a bathroom with a floor-level shower, underfloor heating throughout the house, living/dining room with a pull-out sofa bed for two, and a completely equipped kitchen including a dishwasher, a ceramic-top stove (4 hobs), and an oven. With a floor area of 66 sq.m, it offers a relaxing vacation. Wi-Fi is available at no cost, as well as bed linen, bath towels, and dish towels. The icing on the cake is the 60-sq.m wooden terrace with its own hot tub and a fantastic view of the lake, mountains, and the Hekla Volcano. The house is somewhat isolated, though because of its ideal location in the Southern Region, it is great for winter stays. The Northern Lights are a completely different experience as there are no lights from nearby houses. Our farmhouse is just 400 m away, you can certainly ride out from our farm. We're happy to help if you have any questions about your vacation. We have plenty vacation planning tips! We put a major focus on ensuring that your individual wishes are fulfilled, and are happy to help plan your excursions!
Our German/Icelandic family has lived on the Herridarholi farm, some 400 m from the holiday home by the lake. We run a guesthouse there during the summer, and offer riding tours. Our agricultural operation runs year-round, with sheep, horses, and dairy cows.
Renate Hannemann purchased this house in 2015
Since Iceland is worth a visit even outside of the summer, we decided to offer vacations year-round as well. That's why we built a holiday home on the prettiest part of our 400-hectare farm, and so our Herrukot holiday home was born.
The isolated lakeside location allows for a relaxing vacation, especially when combined with the central location and the good access road. The house is so spacious and comfortable that even spending a day indoors when the weather isn't good is a fine holiday experience. The hot tub during a snowstorm or under the northern lights is an unforgettable experience!
The directions prior to arrival were good. And the house was easy to find. The house is clean, cozy and warm. In The hottub there is a great view on the night sky with minimum lights in the surroundings. Shops were nearby and all the tourist attractions were easy to get by car. We are deffinatively coming back to this amazing place.
Spent six nights at this property and will certainly return in the future. The cottage is very clean and comfortable with everything needed for self catering - including a well stocked larder!
It is set in an idyllic location with picturesque views from every window.
Fabulous hot tub - ready for use at any time.
Well located close to lots of attractions.
We had the most relaxing and enjoyable holiday.
The location was ideal for day trips to Black Beach, The glacier and other wonderful sights such as waterfalls..
There was one clear night but no Northern lights , such a shame .
We went just before Xmas so we didn't see too much as there was only about 4 hours sunlight a day and we used this time to get out and discover the area, but from what we could see the surrounding area of the house was beautiful.
The house itself was well heated clean and neat but lacked ambience / character . The bed pillows were cushions , not proper pillows and very uncomfortable to sleep on. Unusually the cutlery drawer was in the cupboards above your head and I couldn't see into it to select utensils. Additionally, whilst there was a microwave, there were no bowls to cook vegetables , meat etc in it. Also there was no welcoming folder and we had to try and identify the wifi code from the back of the modem which had worn off. A few days later I found the folder under a pile of brochures under the coffee table. The wifi itself was very weak and we had to go in the car to pick up a better signal.
As an overseas traveller I note that leaving a local phone number to ring if any problems is quite useless. To make such a call would cost over £20 pounds, the cheaper alternative , a text may not be answered in time to be helpful.I am not sure how you overcome this issue, but as the house was isolated ,the day's VERY short and the weather appalling ,we were pleased we had no major problems.
The jacuzzi was clean and lovely to sit in.The drying room was helpful.
Overall the house was well maintained but ordinary and not well equipped. You need to do a food shop prior to arriving as there are no close food stores.
This lake house is everything we hoped it would be. The kitchen is well stocked, the bedrooms are small but comfortable, the living area is relaxed and spacious, and the view is spectacular! The hot tub was a wonderful addition to our evenings. We had hoped for clear skies, but the weather did not cooperate as it rained or was cloudy most of the time we were there. However, even with the cold temperatures outside the house was toasty and very welcoming (and so was the hot tub!). We would definitely stay at the house again. Remember, you are in the country so there is no TV and the Internet was not fast; bring books or games and you will enjoy the relaxing accommodations even more. The house was clean and the pictures online were very accurate. The driving directions were perfect! The one thing you might like to know is there is no freezer in the small refrigerator - but we didn't miss it! Grocery shopping in Selfoss is very easy and plentiful. Thank you for a wonderful stay!
We had a fantastic time here as a family of four. The house contained everything that we needed and my wife and daughter especially loved the hot tub. It was fantastic watching the weather change so frequently. We were also very blessed to see the Aurora for the three nights that we stayed and with such little light pollution it was an amazing spectacle to behold. We found that Selfoss was the best place to purchase our groceries and the scenery made it a pleasing journey. The house was very well kept and well presented and Renate, the owner, was very prompt in responding to queries before we travelled. Would thoroughly recommend this place for anyone who is looking for a secluded holiday house away from the hustle and bustle of the larger towns and villages.
Herrukot, our newly-built and comfortable holiday home is situated right on the shores of a large lake. It boasts views of the lake, the constantly-changing landscape and the Þjórsa River, and also has horses! The Northern Lights in winter are simply unforgettable! The location in the central Southern Region means that plenty of great day trips are possible, for example to Geysir, Gullfoss, Thingvellir National Park, the Hekla and Eyjafjallajökull Volcanoes, Reykjavik, the Vestmannaeyjar Islands, glaciers, cliffs with flocks of birds, and the highlands of Landmannalaugar and Thorsmörk. Reykjavik is an hour's drive away, and contains numerous museums, galleries, churches, shopping centres, and whale-watching options. We offer short and long rides (even for beginners) through the constantly-changing landscape, over mountains, and along the rivers and lakes. We make sure our guests get an individual treatment! Our farmhouse is 500 m away and we are happy to help with any questions. We'd be happy to give you a view of the Icelandic farm life. We have 300 sheep, 120 Iceland ponies, 70 cows and steers, as well as cats, rabbits, and a dog. Very family-friendly!
