Overview

About the property

Between lake and river, sleeps 2-6, hot tub on a large terrace

Herrukot, our holiday home built in 2015, is located in a gorgeous isolated location right on the lakeside. The house contains two separate bedrooms, each with very comfortable beds that are 90x200 cm in size, a bathroom with a floor-level shower, underfloor heating throughout the house, living/dining room with a pull-out sofa bed for two, and a completely equipped kitchen including a dishwasher, a ceramic-top stove (4 hobs), and an oven. With a floor area of 66 sq.m, it offers a relaxing vacation. Wi-Fi is available at no cost, as well as bed linen, bath towels, and dish towels. The icing on the cake is the 60-sq.m wooden terrace with its own hot tub and a fantastic view of the lake, mountains, and the Hekla Volcano. The house is somewhat isolated, though because of its ideal location in the Southern Region, it is great for winter stays. The Northern Lights are a completely different experience as there are no lights from nearby houses. Our farmhouse is just 400 m away, you can certainly ride out from our farm. We're happy to help if you have any questions about your vacation. We have plenty vacation planning tips! We put a major focus on ensuring that your individual wishes are fulfilled, and are happy to help plan your excursions!

About Renate Hannemann

Our German/Icelandic family has lived on the Herridarholi farm, some 400 m from the holiday home by the lake. We run a guesthouse there during the summer, and offer riding tours. Our agricultural operation runs year-round, with sheep, horses, and dairy cows.

Renate Hannemann purchased this house in 2015

Why Renate Hannemann chose Southern Region

Since Iceland is worth a visit even outside of the summer, we decided to offer vacations year-round as well. That's why we built a holiday home on the prettiest part of our 400-hectare farm, and so our Herrukot holiday home was born.

What makes this house unique

The isolated lakeside location allows for a relaxing vacation, especially when combined with the central location and the good access road. The house is so spacious and comfortable that even spending a day indoors when the weather isn't good is a fine holiday experience. The hot tub during a snowstorm or under the northern lights is an unforgettable experience!

You'll see the Hekla Volcano and, on a clear day, the peak of the Eyjafjallajökull Volcano. The isolated location means that the Northern Lights are especially beautiful! Bird watchers will delight in the many bird species on the lake. The hot tub is a relaxing option for all our guests. Horseback riders can use our farm as a point of departure for their rides, and take long tours during the summer months.

Lovely house on the lake

  • 5 of 5

After arriving from a 6 hour drive from the north we arrived at the house, it was very easy to find, signposted off the road.

Was lovely and warm already inside and the hot tub was ready for us to jump into.

Everything was all very clean and it was very well stocked. Beds were comfy.

as were out for most the day, unfortunately we didn’t see much of the house but had a nice time in the evening relaxing.

A great base for seeing the south of Iceland and close to airport

Beautiful Setting

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I loved our stay at Renate's property. It was great for us to be away to be able to see the stars and the Northern Lights. The hot tub is a real delight. The house has all the things in it to have a very comfortable stay. We were there for 6 days and will try and come back again. Thanks Renate.

Loved it!

  • 5 of 5

This was our first trip to Iceland and we had a wonderful week. The house is very comfortable, clean, and peaceful. It's location was perfect for exploring the south during the day, and the hot tub was a great way to relax in the evening. We saw the northern lights and heard the loons calling our first night there. It was a magical start to an amazing visit!

Lovely hot tub with a fantastic view!

  • 5 of 5

Very comfortable and well equipped accommodation. Owners were very very helpful with queries/requests. The location is very peaceful and secluded but still very convenient for local amenities and sights. We were treated to a beautiful sunset at the end of the drive where the horses came to say hello!

The perfect little home away from home...

  • 5 of 5

Our family (myself, husband + 10 year old son) stayed here for 3 lovely nights. It's such a fun location tucked into what feels like your own little private piece of paradise. The views are spectacular!!

The property itself is very cozy and is equipped with everything you need. It is quite a drive from the nearest grocery store, so I would recommend purchasing some items to bring with you before arriving. There is a full kitchen, as well as a number of other amenities (French press, toaster, hot water pot, etc.). We cooked our first night's dinner there and it turned out great.

The bedrooms are very comfortable and the floors are heated (so great!). Overall, it really was the perfect home away from home.

The only thing that didn't work while we were there was the Wi-Fi. However, Renate's daughters came to let us know personally that the Wi-Fi was down and offered for us to use the Wi-Fi at their farm, if needed. It was not an issue at all.

And...speaking of their farm! It's lovely! One morning, we walked up to visit the animals there and Anna was kind of enough to let us meet the horses in the stable. It was such a fun experience for my family.

We would definitely stay here again. And frankly...it was hard to leave! Highly recommend for couples and or small families.

Excellent

  • 5 of 5

My boyfriend and I came to Iceland with his Grandfather and mother. Grandad has a bucket list and Iceland was up there at the top. The accommodation was perfectly located for all our day trips, meaning that we didn't need to spend too long in the car. Being placed on the edge of lake with no distractions, made sitting in the hot tub enjoying the view a really relaxing treat. The kitchen was very well equipt, beds nice and comfy, and all together very clean and well presented. I would highly reccomend staying here and would definitely return one day.

Herrukot, our newly-built and comfortable holiday home is situated right on the shores of a large lake. It boasts views of the lake, the constantly-changing landscape and the Þjórsa River, and also has horses! The Northern Lights in winter are simply unforgettable! The location in the central Southern Region means that plenty of great day trips are possible, for example to Geysir, Gullfoss, Thingvellir National Park, the Hekla and Eyjafjallajökull Volcanoes, Reykjavik, the Vestmannaeyjar Islands, glaciers, cliffs with flocks of birds, and the highlands of Landmannalaugar and Thorsmörk. Reykjavik is an hour's drive away, and contains numerous museums, galleries, churches, shopping centres, and whale-watching options. We offer short and long rides (even for beginners) through the constantly-changing landscape, over mountains, and along the rivers and lakes. We make sure our guests get an individual treatment! Our farmhouse is 500 m away and we are happy to help with any questions. We'd be happy to give you a view of the Icelandic farm life. We have 300 sheep, 120 Iceland ponies, 70 cows and steers, as well as cats, rabbits, and a dog. Very family-friendly!
