The Moors discovered the excellent medicinal benefits of the Mar Menor and to this date it is listed by the World Health Organisation as one of the healthiest places on earth. The Moors used the ancient Roman baths in Los Alcazares, which still stand today.

Fantastic apartment with everything you would need. Only negative is no air conditioning

  • 4 of 5

We stayed in steve's apartment from 28th July - 4th August. This apartment is great, plenty of space for a family of 4, ample storage space, kitchen has all utensils/appliances you would need and it was great to have the washing machine too. The balcony is big with plenty of space for 2 loungers, a table with 4 or 5 chairs, a wee trolley, washing line, beach chairs, parasols. The apartment was clean, as was the bedding (always something I'm paranoid about when staying anywhere!!!) there was a tv with plenty of English channels, not sure what though as didn't really use the tv much. I also noticed lots of dvds and books to borrow. the balcony gets sun on the front part of it most of the afternoon from lunchtime onwards. The pool area is big and it is a great pool. There are no loungers at the pool but it was easy enough to take a beach chair down or just lie a towel on the ground. The pool was never busy during the day whilst we were there but did get very busy late afternoon until late in the evening but all noise stopped before midnight and everyone respected this rule. Noise was never an issue.

The location of the apartment is fantastic - about a 10 minute walk to the beach which stretches for miles and is lovely. The sea isn't warm and shallow so safe for the kids playing in. There is a large supermarket about 2 minutes away which is open 7 days per week and open until 10 most nights. About a 20 minute walk away there is the square where there are about thirty different restaurants, all of which looked lovely. We had a fantastic meal every night. There are also a few bars here but we didn't use them so can't comment but looked nice.

The only negative was that there was no air conditioning in the apartment. There were ceiling fans in both bedrooms and three fans which could be moved between the bedrooms and living room. There was a heatwave whilst we were there so it was twenty eight degrees at night which I understand is unusual but it ment that sleeping was very uncomfortable in the heat and we were having to have cold showers late at night then first thing in the morning to try and cool down. I'm sure in normal temperatures for the summer the fans would have been ok but given the temperatures whilst we were there air conditioning was sorely missed. This is the only reason that this apartment doesn't get a five star rating as other than that it is a great apartment.

Lovely stay, amazing pool...let down a bit by some grubbiness

  • 4 of 5

We stayed in this apartment for a week in July. I read a few reviews and had some conflicting information, so to clarify...

- The apartment is nice and spacious, with two twin rooms. There is a sofa bed in the living room which in theory could sleep two more, but it is quite small and very uncomfortable. At best, maybe a child's bed. There are good facilities, a washing machine, nice bathroom, lovely balcony etc.

- The pool is spectacular. It is very well kept, clean and has the sun on a part of it all day.

- The nearest shop is literally in throwing distance, perhaps a 5 minute walk. We got a whole weeks shopping here no problem.

- Los Alcazares is about a 15 minute walk, and the beach we found to be about the same.

As for the apartment, the only reason we didn't give it 5 stars is we did find it to be a bit grubby in places. The balcony is dirty underfoot, the chairs and sun loungers are dusty and a bit grimy. The cups and plates are also in a good need of a deep clean, being a bit greasy. The pillows are, to be frank, quite disgusting, covered though by clean covers.

The actual apartment was clean, the bathroom fresh and clean towels provided.

Don't get me wrong, we would happily stay again, but there are perhaps a few issues needing addressed.

Overall, for the cost, it was a very nice week in the sun!

Owner's Response: Glad you enjoyed your stay James, sorry you were not happy with a couple of things just to address your issues, the balcony is impossible to keep clean as there is often wind blowing dust every where you can clean it and next day it will be dusty again. all of the bed clothes, towels pillow covers etc are washed after every stay but despite being cleaned the pillows do get stained. The sofa bed is standard size double, its not as comfortable as a normal bed however I have slept on it but it is usually used by children. Not sure about the cups and plates no one has commented before. Thanks Steve

Great relaxing week

  • 5 of 5

Me and my family had a lovely relaxing week, literally a few minutes away from the airport, felt very safe and secure on the complex with the kids, kids loved the pool which wasn't over crowed and after being out all day in the sun, it was nice to chill out on the evening in the well equipped, spacious apartment , there's a supermarket just minutes away, which caters for all your needs.went to the Saturday market and got a few bargains, which was set up just minutes away from the complex, visited pearls chippy and had the nicest fish and chips I ever had abroad, and also dined at the curry leaf which we highly recommend, eating out with fussy kids wasn't an issue, we enjoyed all our meals just up at the main square and wasn't over priced, there's a lovely long stretch of beach which took about a 20 min walk to get to, but once there, we were spoilt for choice of bars to snack and drink from, we had a lovely chilled out time with great weather, thanks Steve.

Highly Recommended!

  • 5 of 5

Absolutely fantastic!

Apartment was plenty big enough for 2 adults and 3 children, fulled equipped with everything you need for your holiday, it was clean and well presented!

Pool was very large and was tended to daily by the pool man ad lady cleaner, we had it to ourselves most days.

The apartment is about 2 mins from airport in a taxi, the fare is around 10euro, even with being so close to the airport we didnt hear any planes take off or land after 10pm so noise from the airport wasnt a problem.

About a 20 minute walk takes you to an area where all shops, banks and restaurants are, Spanish,Chinese and English restaurants, defo try Costa for Full English Brekkie and Veni International for grilled Chicken and New York steak, amazing!

The beach is about a 10 minute stroll and is absolutely gorgeous, shallow, warm water made it safe, brilliant for our kids, lots of lovely bars along the full length of the beach serving snacks, drinks and ice creams etc!

We hired push bikes for 2 days and would fully recommend, very flat and easy to ride round. Reasonably priced too!

Well worth a stay in Steves apartment, highly recommended!

Thanks Steve for allowing us to stay in your apartment, we had an amazing time!

Dawn, Andy, Daniel, James and Laina

A very relaxing break

  • 5 of 5

From being picked up at airport to being dropped back at the end of the break everything was just so relaxing, Apartment overlooks pool and with the very warm weather we had the balcony had a lot of use. We had my mother with us she is 90 years young and had no problems with access in and around the apartment, thanks for the heaters as the temp dropped at night, everything you could need is provided whether you are eating in or out.

Just 2 Min's down the road you will find a supermarket (closed Sundays) The Saturday market just at end of street very handy, the beach a 5 min stroll, we were there in Feb still plenty of bars open along the very long traffic free promenade

We had the pleasure of watching Spain's red arrows practice every day from the beach front bar

Would have no hesitation in recommending to anyone thinking of booking, we would go back thanks a lot Steve

Los Alcazares is situated in Spain's Murcia region, known as the Costa Calida. The town sits on the shore of the Mar Menor (one of Spain’s best kept secrets), a saltwater lagoon separated from the main sea by a 22km long strip of land, called La Manga. For families with small children the clean sandy beach is very safe, with shallow warm water and no tide, which hosts a variety of watersports. There is also an attractive 7km promenade dotted with numerous beachfront bars and cafés which provide a variety of food and drinks. The area has an average of 320 days sunshine each year with warm summers and mild winters. There is a lively local market on Saturday & Tuesday where selections of bargains are available. For golfers there are at least 7 golf courses (4 of international standard) located within a short drive including the popular La Manga Club. The historical Moorish cities of Murcia & Cartagena are easily reached by car and worth a visit for sightseeing and shopping.
