Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday cottage in Fiano - Casa Cristina

2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, sleeps 4/5

Casa Cristina is a restored cottage set amongst olive groves and vineyards on the outskirts of the picturesque village of Fiano and is approached by a tarmac road. It has its own off-road parking immediately by the gate. The cottage has its own garden within 1.5 hectares of olives, vines and open grassland to which guests have access. The English owners live next door and are always on call to help you or offer advice during your holiday. There are some lovely walks through sweet chestnut woods in the immediate vicinity of the house.

Fiano Village: The village of Fiano is one kilometre downhill from Casa Cristina where there is a restaurant and bar and a small general store with a good range of items for sale including fresh fruit and vegetables. In the village there is also a bar/pizzeria, another trattoria and a baker who bakes on the premises. There are also several other restaurants serving excellent Tuscan food or pizzas within a 15 minute drive. The nearest supermarket is about 15 minutes drive down the valley where there are also 2 banks with ATMs, a post office, a petrol station and other shops.

The swimming pool: The swimming pool (10m x 5m) which is unheated is open throughout the season and is shared only with the owner. The pool is 1.2m deep at the shallow end and 1.6m deep at the deep end and has internal steps. It is surrounded by paving and has two sun bathing terraces with loungers, large sun umbrellas, and comfortable garden furniture. The view from the pool down the valley to Lucca and towards Pisa beyond is arguably one of the best in Tuscany.

Beautiful house and location

  • 5 of 5

We have holidayed in apartments and villas throughout Italy over a number of years, however this is by far the best we have ever stayed in. The location was perfect for us, quiet and peaceful, surrounded by hills and nature, with a beautiful view from the pool. James and Christine keep the garden, grounds and pool beautifully and the house itself was great. We spent most of our time outside under the porch which has a large table and chairs perfect for eating. Lily our daughter fell in love with the hammock and spent the majority of evenings curled up in it listening to music/reading a book! The kitchen was well equipped with all we could have asked for to enable us to cook meals and we made good use of the bbq. It is only a 20 minute drive to the centre of Lucca which is a great place to visit, the old walled town is beautiful and there are lots of good places to eat and a vast array of shops to suit all tastes/budgets. James and Christine are very knowledgeable of the area and there is a great information pack in the cottage. We tried a couple of the restaurants they recommended and were not disappointed. A car is a must, as the price you pay for such peace and tranquility is that, although it is close to a small village, it is up a hill and quite remote. Once again, James and Christine thank you for allowing us to stay in your lovely home and in such a beautiful part of the world. Best wishes to you both and not forgetting Samson and Hercules who were very friendly.

Fabulous cottage in a stunning location

  • 5 of 5

Casa Cristina is a wonderful cottage with everything thoughtfully provided by James and Christine, they are wonderful hosts who made our stay very Memorable and all the more special for all of their local knowledge and advice on the local restaurants! The cottage is set in the most beautiful Tuscan countryside and gives the opportunity to experience 'real Italy' away from the tourist trail whilst being close to Lucca for a visit to a beautiful town and fab shopping. The gardens and pool are stunning and beautifully kept and the cottage spotless. We would recommend Casa Cristina without hesitation!

A Great Spot

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I had the pleasure to spend a week at Casa Cristina - it's a wonderful spot, close to Lucca and many smaller Tuscan towns. The cottage itself is very comfortable and the grounds are well kept and overlook a verdant valley. Christine and James are wonderful hosts, available to help answer any question while respecting your privacy. We can't wait to go back!

Relaxing stay in Tuscany

  • 5 of 5

A truly idealic cottage in beautifully kept colourful gardens; with breath-taking views in the Tuscan mountains towards Lucca and Pisa.

Casa Cristina is perfect for relaxation but equally well placed for excursions to Pisa, Florence, Sienna and Lucca set in tranquil surroundings with the most helpful owners you could wish for. The cottage is pretty, comfortable and well equipped and the private pool exceptional.

Lucca is recommended for evening trips with a good selection of restaurants and more locally La Fonte is worth a visit.

Our second trip to Casa Christina was just as enjoyable as our first in 1996 and we would thoroughly recommend staying at this beautiful villa.

Casa Christina was wonderful! The cottage itself is very attractive and well-kept. The view, especially from the pool, was stunning. We spent our days touring around Tuscany and our evenings swimming. On a couple of mornings, we walked down the hill to the local village (Fiano) and bought fresh bread directly from the baker. There also are excellent hiking trails that are an easy walk from the cottage, including one that climbs a small mountain and provides a breathtaking view of Fiano and Lucca and Pisa in the distance. Our hosts, James and Christine, could not have been more gracious. They made sure we were comfortable and had all the information we needed to make the most of our stay. Casa Christina was the highlight of our time in Italy and provided us with a lifetime of wonderful memories. Thank you, James and Christine, for offering such a fantastic opportunity!

Wonderful stay in Tuscany

  • 5 of 5

Casa Christina is a delightful cottage in the hills of Tuscany. The accommodation was of a very high satndard providing everything we could possibly need whilst on holiday.

The location is stunning with views over the hills and a swimming pool which our teenagers could not stay out of.

It is ideally situated for exploring the area. We did a combination of day trips to the well known sights such as Florence and Lucca but we also went walking in the local hills and mountains which are quite magnificent.

This was our first time to Tuscany and Casa Christina provided us with a great introduction. Christine and James were the perfect hosts. They were knowledgeable about both the local area and Italy in general. They gave us excellent advice about travelling to Rome which was our next stop. They could not have been more welcoming and friendly and we would like to thank them again for helping us to have a lovely holiday.

Fiano is situated in the hills above Lucca in northern Tuscany and enjoys panoramic views down the valley to the city and towards Pisa beyond. Behind are the wooded foothills of the Apuane Alps and the Garfagnana with mountains up to 2000m, stunning views and beautiful countryside.

Less than an hour’s drive from Pisa airport, Fiano makes an excellent starting point for excursions in Tuscany. Lucca (17km) is undoubtedly the area's most important attraction. However, Florence (87km), Pisa (45km) and Siena (150 km) are all within easy reach by car and there are also regular direct bus and train services to Florence and Pisa from Lucca. The beautiful coast of the Cinque Terre is little over and hour away and for beach lovers, the Versilian Riviera is only 27 km away.
