About Joanna Courtney
I was born in Eire but brought up in London. I lived for many years managing a small hotel in Italy (hence my love of France and Italy. I returned to the UK and owned a Restaurant in London. I then went into the Universities and became a General Manager of the SU in the London Universities. I purchased the apartment in Menton for the beauty/tranquility/and easy access to many other places. The apartment has been refurbished to a very high standard as a large well furnished home.It is over 100.sq mtrs giving space for 6+ people without feeling crowded. I now live in London but visit frequently.
Joanna Courtney purchased this Apartment in 2002
Why Joanna Courtney chose Menton
As a young woman I travelled very often to the South of France and Italy and fell in love with this part of the world for the feel good factor. The food the people the markets selling wonderful local produce the fantastic climate and the many interesting places to see and visit with easy access to by car or public transport to many other places
What makes this Apartment unique
I am not sure whether I love it more in the winter or summer every season brings something new. The christmas decorations in Menton are something to behold The orange festival where the whole town seems made of oranges and lemons The wonderful feeling of safeness which makes the place ideally suited to everyone young or old.

Location, location, location! And the location for this lovely flat is ideal!!
For anyone looking for a large, bright, airy, spacious and well-appointed vacation getaway in a wonderful setting, the search is over! This flat comfortably accommodates six or seven adults, and is appointed with everything you’d need for self-catering while, at the same time, being in walking distance to great seaside dining and a short drive to amazing restaurants along the coast. Also within a few blocks is a small supermarket, which is wonderful after you’ve started your day with a stop at the wonderful boulangerie downstairs! Moreover, as comfortable as this lovely home is, it is also suited to families with children and all that comes with a beach stay, so you’re not constantly worrying about child-proofing or walking in with damp bathing suits or sand on your footwear. We’re already looking forward to our next stay here, and we only left two weeks ago!!

The apartment was perfect. Near to the sea, center, train and bus. Large, fresh and spacious apartment that I would highly recommend to stay in. The only drawback was that the curtain on the toilet only covered the window halfway.
Many thanks for your review, the curtain issue has never been raised before as it faces a blind wall but I will inform Micaela and it will be addressed .
However I must say as you know myself and Micaela tried to answer all of your requests I know you have acknowledged this to Micaela.
You locked yourselves out of the apartment one night as one of your friends had taken the two sets of keys. You emailed me as a matter of urgency three times, when I recieved and read the email I emailed you back and asked to confirm all was well,
as soon as Micaela recieved your phone call (she was at a family dinner birthday party
she responded immediately however in the meantime your friends had returned with the keys so all was well.I pride myself that we do everything to ensure the comfort and safety of our guests,I would have thought it just courtesy to inform me all was well.I rang and asked Micaela who had no idea that you were also ringing me in London.
I am glad that you enjoyed your trip and as now this has all been resolved hope to see you another time Best wishes Joanna
Convenient - especially good for elderly
A very convenient location with bakery (fantastic bread) fruit and veg shop and butcher next door. One block in from the sea front and a lovely walk in to town. Flat has everything you need and is big - plenty of room for 6 with 3 decent sized bed rooms.
Nice location, quiet, very basic apartment
The apartment was on the second floor above a restaurant and main thoroughfare so we were worried about noise, but at least in the dead of winter while we were there, it was very quiet---possibly not the case in the summer. The apartment is very spacious but very basic---good for a lot of kids on beach holiday who throw things but not a lot of style, comfort or luxury. Furniture is not very comfortable, rather old and battered, and we kept blowing the fuses whenever we tried to use the light and an appliance in the kitchen the same time. Note that there is no phone and no internet access, and only one shower, no bath. Perfect for families, not the place for anyone looking for romance or atmosphere. Nice location, just a block from the lovely oceanfront, lots of shops and restaurants within a few minutes' walk. Getting to the apartment by bus from the airport was a snap---bus stop is practically across the street from the building.
I have just received the review from the woman who stayed in my apartment in Menton,I entirely disagree with her comments on decor and furnishing within the apartment. The apartment is redecorated in its entirety every 2 years. The furnishings and furniture are all less than 5 years old ,of a very high quality with the exception of some good antique pieces,.The curtains are Timney fowler trompe de voile,in white a very well regarded international designer. It is correct that there is a very large bathroom with only a shower + all other normal bathroom facilities, also a smaller washroom(sink bathroom cabinet ,bidet and toilet. We are arranging Internet access,as far as I am aware almost no apartments have phones. The apartment is double glazed I have never received any complaints winter or summer regarding noise levels. As the heating and lighting are electric and with a safety trip out against overloading I can only think that if this has happened due to the fact that all the heating lighting and ovens were on at the same time in the whole apartment resulting in the safety device tripping.
The armchairs recovered 6 months ago in very good top of the range fabric are Parker knoll large armchairs very comfortable .The sofa is a very large high quality duck and down filled with a white removable covering for high level of cleaning. The apartment is certainly very suitable to a large family who have respect for nice surroundings,I have also many guests who like there own space who do not have children. The apartment has a 3 star rating from the French tourist board .Could the problem have arisen from a level of discontent. (The people renting the accommodation made an error of 12 hrs on their time of arrival we have the emails although they were requested to double check the time difference .Resulting in them having to wait 45mins for he managing agent to arrive with the keys as she was on another assignment on the 27th Dec.We always request feedback from people who have stayed with us and they have been 95% positive.
You know when you find class!
IMy familly and I have stayed at this lovely apartment on four occasions, all seasons except high summer. The situation is perfect, within easy walking distance of many restaurants and the beach. It is situated above a first class Bakery, for those morning quoissants and baguettes.
The accommodation itself is a roomy, high ceilinged apartment, furnished with exquisite taste by the owners. The furniture is a tasteful blend of contemporary and antique pieces, which ooze comfort, coziness and style.
I would recommend this destination to anyone as a classy, comfortable base in which to luxuriate between trips to explore the local area. On a practical level it is on the bus route to Nice Airport, and a 10 minute walk from Menton Railway Station. We found that it was not worth hiring a car, as the transport facilities are first rate, and most places are within walking distance. The old town and hilltop cemetery are a must, as are the cathedral and harbour. All in all, I cannot speak too highly of the apartment and the town. Bon Vacance!
Great location, great apartment, great holiday
My wife and I spent a wonderful autumn week in Menton at this lovely apartment. It's classic French, very stylish, uncluttered, and absolutely huge, with a big kitchen/dining/living room, and three big double bedrooms - the bathroom is big and has a good shower. All the furniture is very tasteful, with some nice antiques, and overall a sense of relaxed southern French style. It was cool in the day, warm in the evening, and surprisingly quiet. The apartment is really convenient for all the shops and restaurants in Menton, and less than a minute's walk to the beach. We were able to cook a full meal for some local friends, and then go for a night-time promenade on the sea front...
Menton is situated about 8 kilometres east of Monte Carlo and a similar distance from Ventimiglia, in Italy. Menton is served by Nice Airport about 40km to the west. Excellent travel facilities are available close to the apartments - bus, train, coach and air. An attractive mountain range overlooks Menton
