Contemporary accommodation with fine views across the fjord

  • 4 of 5

The house is of contemporary design (a definite plus for us) and one of a group of three detached houses set into a steep west facing slope overlooking the Eyafjord. We stayed 8 nights at the end of June and enjoyed watching the midnight sunsets, passing cruise ships, whale watching vessels, bird life and occasional spouting and diving whales from the terrace. Don't forget your binoculars if you go.

The property is located close enough to Akureyri to take advantage of the supermarkets and other facilities (we especially enjoyed the aviation museum and Botanic Gardens).

We self catered and thought the kitchen adequate for most things but would have found a conventional oven useful. We also missed not having a washing machine. We really enjoyed using the hot tub which is under folding doors on the terrace but found the doors heavy to use and you have to be careful to prop them open properly. Nollur is within reasonable driving distance of most of the best known attractions in northern Iceland including the volcanic areas and waterfalls around Lake Myvatn and the nearby whale watching centres at Grenavik and Husavik. There is an interesting folk museum at nearby Laufas with Icelandic turf "Hobbit houses".

A really good place to stay, close to the bright lights of Aukureyri and the main route around Iceland but far enough off the beaten track to be quiet and secluded. The self catering facilities help reduce the eye watering cost of visiting Iceland and the views, terrace and hot tub mean that it would be possible to spend your whole visit just relaxing there.

What a view

  • 5 of 5

We had a perfect 3 nights here, my only regret was we couldn't stay longer. The views from the house are amazing, and everything was so calm & quiet and away from everything. It was everything we could have wished for. When we arrived the kettle wasn't working and being British the first thing we wanted was a cup of tea and admire the views. A quick text to Anna who said she was sort it and the next day a new kettle was delivered without any fuss.

We will definitely return only this time we will stay longer as we felt so refreshed while we were there.

an amazing view

  • 4 of 5

You cannot expect a better location. You have everything you need in the house except for some basic foods (pepper, salt, spice) and basic cleaning product (washing machine soap). The communication with the owner was always efficient and quick. They even give you a booklet discount when you arrive. First day, we had trouble with internet and the problem was solve by Thomas the next day. The only thing I wish they could improve is the spa. With a timer on, we could figure it takes 2 hours and 50 minutes to fill it up. So you have to plan more than 3 hours before getting into hot water.

Beautiful Home with an Incredible View

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed at this house in January. The fjord was beautiful and surrounded by snow. The outdoor hot tub was the perfect place to relax in the evenings. Akureyri was close enough to drive, but far enough to provide a rural environment. This is a beautiful place to stay. There were several other houses on the property, so it would be a good place for a group.

The perfect place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

Amazing! Could not recommend enough, it's about a 20 minute drive from the airport and the property is easily sign posted. Anna was lovely and helpful, beautiful views just fell in love! Our WiFi went down on the first day and the next day Anna was over fixing it- brilliant service!
