About Neil and Tricia Young
Neil and I moved to Brittany in 2004 leaving behind a very hectic and stressful life in IT and banking! The appeal of the relaxed, family orientated, French way of life drew us to Brittany, where we found and purchased a beautiful hamlet of thatched cottages. Over the last 12 years we have enjoyed developing a successful holiday cottage business, whilst at the same time, immersing ourselves in French village life and getting to grips with the French language and all its many nuances !
Neil and Tricia Young purchased this Cottage in 2004
Why Neil and Tricia Young chose Quistinic
We chose Morbihan (one of the four departments in Brittany) for a number of reasons. Firstly, the beautiful granite stone buildings had a definite appeal - each department has its own unique style fashioned by the building materials local to the area. Secondly, the beautiful undulating landscape, lush and green, very similar to Cornwall and quaint picturesque villages, reminiscent of an ‘olde worlde’ England. Another plus, the temperate climate, warmer than the south of England, but not too hot on balmy summer days, and a convenient distance, just a short two hour drive south from the northern ports of St Malo & Roscoff. Add to the above the wonderful Breton hospitality abound in this area, a host of interesting places to visit, the beautiful Gulf of Morbihan with its many islands to explore, historical towns and medieval cities, megalithic sites and much much more and the list goes on………!
What makes this Cottage unique
There are many plus points for choosing to holiday at Le Helleguy, in one of our two detached thatched cottages, La Chaumiere and/or La Grange : • Located in a quite tranquil area, but within easy access of local amenities and the coast • Both rated 4 star / 4 key by the French Tourist Board & Clevacannce and so you can be confident of the standard and quality offered in the cottages • La Chaumiere offers ground floor accommodation with en-suite facilities if managing stairs is a problem • The heated swimming pool has a high-tech telescopic shelter which enables indoor swimming in mild/inclement weather and the pool water is heated from 1st April until mid-November • Spa facilities are available onsite, daily and in the evenings • Living in the hamlet ourselves, Neil and I on hand to offer assistance and help make your stay as relaxed and hassle free as possible!

Well worth its 5 star rating.
La Chaumiere was a great choice for our 3 generational family holiday. The place is as described in the advertisements and more because of the tranquil location in beautiful countryside. Our 6 & 7 year old grandchildren were thrilled with the lovely pool and would have been happy to play in it and the spacious grounds all day and every day.
The accommodation is well appointed and we wanted for nothing to facilitate a good self catering holiday. Opportunities for days out are legion including many fine beaches and interesting towns and markets.
The owners, who live on site, are very understanding of the needs of their guests of all ages. They are also a fount of knowledge of places and events of interest that are accessible from the property.
All-in-all a good "value for money" holiday venue.
Superb Accomadations & Setting
"Pampered" isn't usually the word I would use to describe a self-catering holiday. However, La Chaumiere is comfortable, beautiful and relaxing. It is completely furnished with everything a guest could think of - I could have easily stayed there for months and months without missing my own kitchen items - it is that complete and everything was of the highest quality. (Amazing!!) The surroundings are calm and beautiful. My greatest pleasure was waking up before anyone else and taking my coffee outside, walking around the extensive grounds and enjoying all the beautiful spring flowers. Since spring was late this year, we were able to see blue bells, lilies of the valley, azaleas, and lilacs in bloom. Huge roses twine up the sides of the house and they opened during our two week stay. When we left, the fruit trees were just starting to blossom. Day after day, something new and beautiful appeared in the garden. Numerous birds sang and of course, there was the ubiquitous cuckoo (not so beautiful in speech, but familiar just the same). I choose this cottage because it had a ground floor bedroom and bathroom, which was needed for my 87 year old mother. That worked out perfectly for us. The attention to the smallest detail, including the organization of tourist information, was outstanding. (Need a tissue? Tricia had a box in most every room - incredible!) Mattresses were perfect, the linens top notch and the duvets were cozy. The house and grounds are kept to an exacting standard. Tricia and Neil, your hosts, were ready and eager to help with any tiny thing that could make the stay even better. We also greatly enjoyed the option of having several meals catered by Connie. If you order from her European menu, do get a dessert - heavenly!!
I cannot overstate what a wonderful holiday home this is. The only drawback is one does eventually have to leave. I could have happily stayed for much longer, enjoying the company of Tricia and Neil (who live close by - attentive, yet unobtrusive - terrific people!) and the countryside peace and quiet.
Perfection in the countryside
Every aspect of property rental has been considered-and exceeded-by Neil & Tricia at Le Helleguy.A picturesque, thatched cottage, set in amazing grounds with a glorious, heated, all weather pool, one cannot fail to enjoy tranquility yet have access not only to beautiful southern Brittany countryside but also to many places of interest eg.Carnac, Vannes, L'Orient- in less than an hours drive. So many stunning locations and not enough time for us, and our adult children to enjoy. We hope to return soon.Six of us, plus dog, by prior arrangement with our hosts being on hand if needed for advice, guidance &support organising riding, kayaking and vets for us. Gr floor double ensuite is great to offer privacy and for those with mobility impairments on stairs.just one step into large shower. We enjoyed regular outside activities available:table tennis, boules and football in the grounds and pleasant walks in the surrounding area...often finding history on our doorstep.Thank you both for being perfect hosts. We would highly recommend a stay here for a few days, week or longer. Can,t wait to return when there is a need for the log fire to be lit!Best time in France for many years...brilliant:)
Beautiful cottages set in a tranquil location
We visited with two other families during Easter 2015. The hosts were extremely welcoming and accommodating. The cottages are spacious, well equipped and well maintained. The grounds are fabulous, spacious and beautiful. There are plenty of outdoor garden games available and the pool was fantastic. The setting is perfect and we will be recommending it as a great holiday base to our friends and family.
Fabulous house and hosts
You could not be made to feel more welcome here. Tricia and Neil are excellent, kind and warm hosts. What made this place special was the finishing touches they have put in place, from the huge and delicius welcome hamper, to the cleaning equipment, oil and balsamic vinegar! The pool is brilliant- warm and inviting, even if it is raining, with the telescopic cover. We cannot recommend this place highly enough!
A wonderful week at Le Helleguy
We have just completed a week long stay at Neil and Tricia Young's picturesque location in Morbihan, Brittany. Our group consisted of 3 couples (all around 60yrs old) as well as another couple who were travelling with us in their motorhome. We rented La Chaumiere and were delighted to find that it was just as we expected from the photos and description we had read on the web site. It was accurately described and was spotlessly clean for us when we arrived. Tricia's instructions on how to find the gite from Quistinic were ideal and as we arrived after a fairly long drive we took advantage of the "Welcome meal" that Tricia had recommended. It was superb! and so good not to have to go to the bother of cooking when we were all tired.
Tricia and Neil were excellent hosts: always there if we needed any help but never intrusive. We particularly enjoyed using the cycles to explore the area and had a great day following the canal tow-path along the Blavet river to a delightful lunch at "Rendez Vous aux Pecheurs" - a recommendation from Tricia who also made the booking for us.
We would be more than happy to recommend La Chaumiere to our friends and others.
We enjoyed swimming in the heated pool even though the weather was a cool 15 to 16 degrees and none too tropical for June. We also appreciated Tricia and Neil permitting our friends with the motor home to have it parked there all week.
If we had to find a negative comment it would be that the kitchen was a tad too small when cooking for 8. There was really only room for one adult in there at any time but having said that, it didn't stop us producing some gastronomic feasts! Everything we needed was there to do the job!
The location of Le Helleguy suited us very well and we were able to easily travel to all the places we wanted to see with a maximum of 1hr 30mins driving - lots of sights were much closer than that.
Au revoir from 8 New Zealanders - all now confirmed francophiles.
