Fantastic location. Very comfortable 'home from home' Car optional. A beautiful, sunny and spacious apartment on the top (3rd) floor of a small building with great open views of the sea towards Cap d’Antibes and mountains behind Vence. Elegantly furnished. Very sunny large balcony with table to enjoy your meals & sunbathing. (2 recliners) Please note there is NO Lift. Flat is located 200 yards from the Porte du Signadour, the old archway leading into the winding streets of the enclosed medieval walled 'old city' of Vence, settled by the Romans. (Alt. 320 metres). The hill-town of Vence has grown up around it. The apartment is just a short walk to all the cafes, restaurants, fresh produce, patisseries and markets. Captivating and so enchanting, Vence is only 20 mins by car from Nice airport & the beaches of Cagnes Sur Mer and 5-10 minutes to the ''perched' village of St Paul de Vence. 10 to Tourrette sur Loup. Good bus service to Airport, trains, St. Paul, Nice and Riviera. A well equipped and comfortable private holiday home, it comprises a large, bright living room/ bedroom & a separate open plan Provencal-style kitchen & dining area which both open onto a South West facing balcony to enjoy the sun and brilliant sunsets. Romantic Vence is famous for fresh local produce & picturesque streets, daily food & antique markets, Nuits des Sud openair concerts in July, and many art galleries, cafes & restaurants of this unspoilt Provencal 'village'. Hard to believe you are just 20 minutes from the airport. The apartment is perfectly located to explore the Cote D'Azur and nearby villages such as Tourrettes sur Loup, whilst Nice, Cannes, Monte Carlo & Italy are just a short drive. Vence (alt. 320m) is popular for walking & cycling. In winter, skiing is just a 45 min drive to the nearest resort of Greoulieres. .

Vence - points of interest: Chateau de Villeneuve, Art lovers will see the wonderful Chapel Rosaire created by Matisse - considered his masterpiece - a must see (go on a sunny day to enjoy the stained glass) Vence Cathedral with its Chagall mosaic, Emile Hughes Foundation, Chapel of the White Penitents, Nall Foundation (art school) and the many art galleries, artists studios and craft and pottery shops.

Tuesday and Friday morning markets in the Old City and daily morning flower and local food produce markets in Place du Grande Jardin. Wednesday morning is the antique market.

July has a two week outdoor music festival - Les Nuits du Sud. Summer open air concerts in July/August - Les Nuits des Sud. Summer jazz concerts at Juin les Pins, Antibes.

Local bus service is reliable and extensive. Nbrs 400 and 94 from Vence Ara terminal ends at Nice Routiere, a short walk or bus ride on bus #17 from the main Nice train Station, and stops at the Airport. The 400 stops near the Airport. There are buses to Grasse, Tourrettes su Loup, Bar sur Loup, St Jeannet and St Paul de Vence. At Nice Airport you can catch buses to Cannes and Monaco. You can take the bus from Vence to Cagnes sur Mer Station close to the A8 motorway and then take the train to all points along the coast East and West, to Monaco and Italy and also up to Biot and Grasse. .

Skiing, Walking, Hiking and Cycling: Vence and the surrounding area is very popular for walkers and cyclists year round. The Tourist office can supply Routes for independent walkers and also runs accompanied walks. The nearest ski resort, Greolieres les Neiges is 40 minutes away behind Vence and the international resorts of Isola 2000, Valberg and Auron are 1.5 hrs drive or by train from Nice Station. Why Lindsay Phillips chose Vence

We chose Vence because I found it to be so charming pretty and unspoilt, and I chose the apartment because it had character, not just a 'box' and because of the ambiance and lovely open view of mountains and sea, and it is often full of luminous light. Also, one can walk to all the shops - handy for your fresh croissant in the morning. We are on the road leading into the medieval "old City Historique'. The light down here is what the artists talk about. As Henri Matisse wrote to poet Louis Aragon “When I realized I would see that light every morning, I could not believe my good fortune,” Also, we are only 200 metres into the heart of Vence 'Old City' and only 25 minutes from Nice and 20 minutes to the airport. It is a bonus to be surrounded by the history, art galleries and atmosphere, not to mention the wonderful fresh produce and local markets. Fresh natural spring water since Roman times available from the fountain on our street, and there is nothing nicer than walking into the medieval city to choose your fresh hot bagette and croissants each morning and eating them on the balcony! And because you don't need to get the car out, it is much more relaxing and you don't have to worry about driving after dinner! So you can see it has its benefits!

What makes this apartment unique

The apartment has a welcoming ambiance, the benefit of sun all afternoon until it sets over the mountains and the great location: Because we are high up on ave. du colonel meyere, I believe we may be the closest apartment to the Old City that has such a nice open view and yet only 200 metres along the road and you are in the centre of historic Vence life. You are not 'overlooked' and you can sit on the balcony and enjoy the panorama. Very short walk indeed to the medieval walled 'city' and you can experience Vence as it is - a charming, bustling and authentic little French town with a lovely astmosphere which has managed to remain unspoilt. You can manage without a car as the bus services are good and run every 45-60 minutes until about 9pm in summer. The 7 minute drive down from Vence down to the famous village of St Paul de Vence is great. Or take the windy road up to St Jeannet or to Tourrettes. Buses to airport, Nice and sorrounding village. If you have a car then you park opposite in the little car park.

  • The apartment has two rooms: 1. A spacious living room with French doors onto the balcony. Approx 20+ Sq.m. Approx 20 X 15 sq.ft. The bed is in the living room - a quality large (160cm) 5'3'' wide pull-down wall bed with comfortable mattress. Hidden inside a decorative wall cabinet the bed is designed for full-time use ( brand 'Jacqueline meubles'). Bed closes made up with bedlinen. There is not a separate bedroom. 2. The second 'room' is the entrance hall, kitchen area and the dining area with table and chairs in front of the window and door to balcony. Total approx 585 sq.ft. The property is our holiday home and furnished as a home and not simply a rental investment. It is suitable for a couple.

LIVING ROOM: spacious room with a pull-down large double wallbed (160 cm) hidden behind decorative doors. 2ND ROOM: Hall, open plan provencal kitchen and dining area seating 6, by windows. Shower cubicle and basin in bathroom & separate cloakroom with toilet. Located on the top, 3rd, floor of small apartment building, NO LIFT. PLEASE NOTE: the balcony is not suitable for UNSUPERVISED toddlers or young children. Wonderful selection of varied fresh food and produce all available nearby. Beautiful food shopping in old town + supermarkets. Daily markets. Car recommended but very good bus/rail connections available for non-drivers. Parking opposite in public car park E7 per week; on street; or in nearby covered security parking at E15 per week. Large Vence public swimming pools 1 min. from flat, with grass & hard sunbathing & restaurant - was voted the best in South of France! NO POOL AT RESIDENCE.

Special apartment close to historic centre of Vence

We have just spent 9 nights in Lindsay's wonderful apartment. Our expectations were raised reading all of the previous reviews and we weren't disappointed. The apartment is tastefully decorated and more spacious than the pictures reflect. We spent many hours relaxing on the balcony with its fantastic views. We never tired of sitting there with a wine or a coffee watching the world go by and seeing the sky changing over the hills.

We loved Vence itself walking around the 'Cite Historique', frequenting some of its wonderful restaurants .... or sitting around the Place Grand Jardin, the main town square where there are regular antiques, clothing or artisan markets. You feel like a part of a french community rather than a tourist which is a good feeling.

Lindsay was so knowledgeable about the area and had provided plenty of information before we arrived and in the apartment itself. This allowed us to easily plan our days. We didn't hire a car, having no trouble using the local bus service to visit Nice, Grasse and Tourettes sur Loup which is a beautiful walled city offering spectacular views of the surrounding area. We also took the opportunity to walk to St Paul de Vence - it was a lovely walk through woodland and definitely worth doing!

All in all, this is a fantastic place to stay and thanks to Lindsay for giving us the opportunity to share her home for a short while.

This apartment is fabulous and very comfortable. It has everything you could possibly need or want for a wonderful stay in Vence. The close proximity to the village and its fabulous restaurants and shops is a real bonus. The food shopping is amazing! One of the highlights is sitting on the balcony just soaking up the ambience!

My wife and I have just returned from a fortnights holiday in Lindsay's apartment in Vence.

Vence itself is a lovely and charming town well worth visiting and Lindsay's apartment is in a fantastic location close to the ancient walled town with panoramic views from her balcony, on which we spent many a happy hour with a glass or two!

The apartment has everything you could possibly require for a self catering holiday and then some.

We would strongly recommend it to anyone contemplating this area as we have just enjoyed one of our best holidays ever.

Perfect apartment from which to enjoy Vance and the surrounding area.

The apartment was all that we had hoped for and more. Well furnished and with everything that you could possibly need and a balcony that caught the sun from lunchtime to sunset. Being only 200 metres from the old walled town you really felt part of the community. Lindsay was a fountain of knowledge regarding places to see and good restaurants. Nothing was too much trouble for her.

A great apartment in Vence

We are from Germany and stayed 13 days in this charming apartment. The good comments from other people are really true; there is nothing to add. W`ll come back again soon.

But something is to remark.The traffic at the coast (Monaco, Nice and Cannes is extremly high. Unfortunately we became at the Airport a very great, new and long car, because the ordered middle-class was out. So it was difficult to drive and to find a parking place. I think middle class cars are here more practical.

The beautifully preserved medieval hillside town of Vence (alt.320m) dates back to Roman times. Artists including Chagall, Picasso, Miro, Dufy and Modigliani were drawn to the area by the luminous light. Visit Matisse's chapel Rosaire & Chagall's mosaic in the Cathedral, the many galleries & studios and the wonderful Fondation Maeght modern art museum just 3kms away. Or just enjoy the atmosphere - delicious patisseries and local produce, pavement cafes, Wednesday antique market and colourful fresh produce and clothes markets. Picturesque and Romantic unspoilt Vence is located only 20 mins from Nice airport & the coast. Vence award winning public Swimming pool 2 minutes walk. Hard to believe only 20 minutes from Nice. Very good bus service to Airport, trains and Nice etc. Beautiful views and landscape. Summer outdoor music festivals include 'Les Nuits des Sud in Vence and the Juan les Pins Jazz Festival. Annual 10 day August antiques fair. Christmas lights and atmosphere. Skiiing Greolieres les Neiges 45 minutes. Isola 1.5 hours. We are ideally located to explore the many surrounding villages and towns of the Riviera: St Paul, Nice, Antibes, Biot, Juan les Pins, Cannes, Grasse, Monaco and Italy and there is a good bus and rail service.

Other Activities: summer concerts, medieval villages, art galleries & museums. 15 mins to beach, 30 to Night-life of Nice, Juan or Cannes.

Ski: Vence, alt 320 m, is only 15 minutes drive from Nice airport. A further 40 minutes behind the apartment in Vence is the nearest local ski resort, Greolieres sur Neige. The route by car takes you through the medieval villages of Tourrettes sur Loup and the Gorge du Loup. Gourdon, Bar sur Loup and Grasse are not far off the route. 1.5 hrs drive from either Vence or Nice will bring you to the international resorts of Isola 2000, Valberg and Auron. You can also take the train from Nice. This is convenient for anyone who wants a mixed holiday - skiing and sightseeing.
