Voted the BEST Romantic Get-Away in Wisconsin!! New Lower nightly Rate!

Just newly restored and painted in and out!

Relive the old railroad days in this original 1954 Rail Road caboose! History at it's best!

Secluded on five acres, this caboose features a kitchen, bath, gas fireplace(in Winter) and a private deck with its very own hot tub!

Sit in the cupola of the caboose and read a book or scope out the wildlife from the wrap around view. We are just walking distance from a Class A trout stream. Fish or Dangle your feet in the cool flowing waters.

Ask about our Guided Caving, Kayaking, or Ice Climbing trips to add some Adventure to your get-a-way stay!

Enjoy a relaxing dinner at the best local restaurant- The Great River Roadhouse- overlooking the Mississippi River!

Sleeping is on a double size futon and bunks. Will sleep up to four people (two to three adults and a child). This perfect for a couple or small family with young children.

There is NOW Cell signal at caboose- at least with Verizon.....

Pet are allowed for a $40 fee NON-refundable

Check-In is 3PM, Check-out is 11AM. Weekly bookings are Friday to Friday. ALL Reservation deposits are non-refundable. Refunds after final payments are made will only be given if we can re-book the dates that are canceled. Note: The caboose is now a SELF cleaning cabin with NO cleaning fee. You will need to clean it up at the end of your stay and provide your own linens(full size or twin), towels. This will save you. We also have critters in the area, like mice, that may be present in and around the property.

Pontoon Boat and Fishing boat packages on the Miss. River are also available. Ask our manager for more details.

HUGE DISCOUNT DEAL: Many guests ask for discounts for last minute bookings....sadly. most of our bookings are LAST Minute so we can not offer last minute deals BUT we are offering guests who book EARLY a deal! Here it is: Get 5% off your rate for EVERY MONTH in ADVANCE that you reserve with a PAID DEPOSIT! Example- book 4 months early- get a 20% off deal! 3 months get 15% off, 2 months get 10% etc. FULL payment MUST be paid at least the number of months ahead of time for deal to apply. Max. discount is 20%(or 4 months) Guest must mention this deal at Time of Booking ONLY to get the deal. Thanks!

Holiday bookings require a 3 Night minimum.....

Cancellations: Vacation properties are often booked many months in advance and the property will be held for your use. While the property is being held for you, it obviously cannot be rented to someone else. Therefore, like cruise, tour packages and airline tickets, when booking/reserving a vacation rental home, you will need to make a full or partial payment upfront in order to hold the property.

Normally this is not a problem, BUT if you need to cancel your trip (especially at the last minute), you should know that you may forfeit a portion or all of your rental fees.

If you have to cancel, we will reopen your reserved dates. If we can rebook the dates, a total refund will be issued. If not, your deposit can be applied towards another rental period(within 6 months), or forfeited. Note, all cancellations OR Change in dates will be charged a $60.00 service fee.

NOTE: The location requires you to become a member/owner of the LLC while visiting. This is NOT a PUBLIC facility or Tourist Rooming House(TRH). It is private and by Invitation ONLY. Your fee paid your pro rata share of expenses and only offsets expenses and it should not to be mis-construed as a commercial operation of any type or TRH… Deposits or full payments made to lock in a reservation are NON-refundable but can be transferred to another date that same season, subject to LLC manager discretion

Guestbook comments from the owner

HI Joel,

Thank you! The rest of the stay was just fine.

It's a very nice place to stay, especially as a base camp when day

paddling! We loved the bird activity.

Little Red Caboose

  • 4 of 5

If you are looking for a romantic, secluded get away - this is your ticket. Be prepared - if it is winter time, you will need something other than a sedan to get to it...which is NOT a bad thing!

The weather was VERY cold but the gas fireplace inside made it absolutely bearable (and gave a wonderful romantic glow!). We also built a fire in the fire ring and grilled steaks regardless of the weather. There was no TV when we were there but we were able to listen to tunes via Pandora so cell service does exist regardless of the remote location.

You can't tell by the pictures but there is a bunk bed located right off the kitchen that (for our purposes) housed our extra luggage wonderfully and space above that bed where we placed our extra dry food items/spices/etc. that we brought along.

The hot tub was absolutely the icing on the cake.

Around the caboose are plenty of exploration opportunities. There is a dry creek on the property that provided a great place for target practice and a stroll down the lane presented a bridge with a clear creek running under that was a wonderful topic of conversation.

A trip to Desoto had us stumbling upon "Porks" - and you couldn't have asked for a friendlier crowd or happier bartender.

Our questions were answered quickly. We followed the instructions given to us upon arrival and departure and our security deposit was refunded with no hassle at all.

Thank you for a wonderful weekend!!

Unique and Delightful

  • 5 of 5

We stayed mid-week later in Oct and had a great time. The fact that there is a real caboose 4 miles off the main road for all to enjoy is an amazing feat in itself. What a labor of love to make it happen. Visiting the Big river and the Coulee Region was a first for the family. Lots of hiking and enjoying the bluffs. We were so thankful that our dogs could share the area with us.. Big thanks for allowing pets as an option or we would not have experienced this get-a-way. Deck, Hot Tub and Fire pit tucked in the property to just relax and get away. So nice..

Perfect for my boys

  • 5 of 5

I stayed here for 3 nights with my two sons, ages 5 and 7. They had an absolute blast searching for interesting rocks in the huge dry creek bed behind the caboose, cooking over a campfire every day, swimming in the hot tub, and relaxing in the caboose. It was VERY relaxing. We all slept great and went on a few little side trips to neighboring towns and drove along the Mississippi. I'm hoping to return in the future. Thanks for the great mini-vacation!

Fantastic place

  • 5 of 5

This was our second visit to the caboose, and it was in even better shape this year than last. It is definitely a one-of-a-kind place. Clean and cozy yet very secluded. The futon mattress could be a little more comfortable, but the location and hot tub make up for it. If you have AT&T, make sure to get directions (or a map) ahead of time because there is no signal for miles around, but you don't miss the connectivity when sitting in a hot tub in the woods on a cool night, looking up at the stars.

Great Weekend Away to celebrate partner's bday!

  • 4 of 5

So at first we didn't know what to expect, whether or not this caboose was going to be as awesome as the description and photos. Well - it definitely surpassed our expectations! It's definitely roomy enough for a couple and our two dogs. Everything needed to cook was available as well as the great hot tub! We stayed on the property for most of the stay but also got lost for a bit and made a quick trip to see the Mississippi River :) .

I'd definitely stay here again to enjoy another quiet relaxing weekend!
