Description

Photos and Description of this holiday home in Montejaque - Casita Luna

Romantic Hideaway for 2: Converted stable, Studio, 1 Bath, Kitchenette

Perched above Montejaque, one of the most beautiful 'White Villages' near Ronda, you find Casita Luna amidst 3 hectares of unspoilt nature reserve. It has got its name from Luna the donkey who used to live there- and sometimes comes to visit. The house has been beautifully renovated: 1 big studio-type room with kitchenette, cooker, tea-and coffee-making facilities. Wood-burner and electric heater for cool evenings. CD-MP3-player. Bathroom with shower. Terraces around the house. Small shops, Tapas-bars, banks, post-office, public swimming pool and public internet-access in the village. (5mins walk.) Beautiful Ronda 15kms away. Walks into the breathtaking world of rocks and caves of the Serranía de Ronda begin at your doorstep. Casita Luna can only be reached on foot (uphill) and thus is not suitable for families with small children nor for the handicapped. Pets welcome. Casita Luna is the ideal retreat for nature-lovers, bird-watchers, hikers and climbers: romance under southern skies.

Suitability:
  • not suitable for children
  • pets considered
  • smoking allowed
  • not suitable for elderly or infirm
  • wheelchair inaccessible

Just beautiful.

My wife and I have visited Montejaque a number of times during the last few years and had often looked up at the little house on the hillside and admired it's beautiful setting. From the village it looks more like a film set (Jean de Florette perhaps) than a holiday base, perched on the side of a mountain surrounded by Almond trees and rocky outcrops. We therefore decided to give it a go and see if it could live up to the fantasies it inspired when viewed from below. I am delighted to say that Casita Luna passed this test with flying colours. Our week up on the hill was idyllic.

The house itself was very much as we expected. The facilities are fairly basic with no TV or WiFi and only a small hob and microwave for cooking but the standard of the fittings is high and it proved very comfortable and more spacious than we expected. The house, however, is only half of the story where this property is concerned. The real delight for us was the wonderful gardens which hide behind an imposing wall and unpromising steel gate at the top of the village. This must surely be a labour of love for Erica and her gardener and relaxing and eating amongst the aromatic plants made our stay for us. With unseasonably high temperatures the plunge pool (which is bigger than it looks in the pictures) also got plenty of use.

Whilst the above might seem to paint Casita Luna as perfection there are some things which need to be considered when deciding whether it will suit you. Firstly the sensational location perched above the village can only be reached by a steep walk and all of your luggage and supplies will have to be carried up with you. Secondly the same walk combined with the distance from the centre of the village means that simply popping out for a drink or a meal on an evening is a fairly strenuous exercise and we found sharing a bottle of something in the garden more appealing most of the time.

Peaceful secluded hideaway with breathtaking views

  • 5 of 5

Most fantastic week in completely secluded peaceful cottage in huge grounds high above the village, with direct access into the mountains. No need for the car most days. Abundant wildlife right in the garden. Amazing views far into the distance, no need for TV! Unspoilt Montejaque village where everyone is extremely friendly. The walk up from the village through the narrow cobbled streets is oh so worth it. We took a rucksack rather than suitcase and left car down below.

Love this place so much already booked up for next June

Thankyou Erica!

Superb cottage with outstanding views

  • 5 of 5

Casita Luna is superb in every respect and a fabulous place to stay if you like mountains, tranquillity, views, walking, sightseeing, relaxing....

The house itself is well proportioned, tastefully decorated/furnished and very comfortable. It is set in 2 hectares of almond grove and has a commanding view of the village and the surrounding mountains which are stunning. The house has most certainly the best views of any property in the village. It has everything you could need for a wonderful holiday. The kitchen area is small but more than adequate, but if you do not wish to cook there are always plenty of places to eat down in the village. The walk up to the house through the narrow, white, winding village streets and then through Erica's lovely shady garden is a pleasure, even when carrying shopping, but you do need a certain level of mobility to stay anywhere in the old part of Montejaque. We loved the large landscaped garden and its plunge pool, what a great idea to design it like a cattle trough, it was lovely to plunge in after a long walk in the hills, lay back and admire the wonderful views.

Waking up in the morning and opening the shutters and the door to see the fabulous views while enjoying a morning cup of tea, and listening to the birdsong in the almond trees is quite outstanding. The house is actually in the Natural Park of Grazelema, and the grounds merge into the hillside rocks and cliffs. The wild deer actually came down to the house a couple of times and at other times we could see them up on the cliffs above. Also the vultures soar above, very spectacular!

There are stunning walks all around the Montejaque and Grazelema locality, as well as the Sierra de Nieves just the other side of Ronda, and in May there were beautiful wild flowers everywhere to enjoy. You can walk to Ronda, or take a bus or train, and spend time wandering around the old streets and museums, don’t miss the bullring and the city museum, parts of which were a Moorish palace!

Thank you Erica for being such a helpful yet discreet hostess, we will certainly visit again.

Ideaal en idyllisch gelegen huisje in andalucie

  • 5 of 5

A unique setting

  • 5 of 5

Casita Luna is a unique place to stay. A place apart, totally secluded and quiet (yet close to the village) and with wonderful views. Highly recommended!
