Spacious 18century family house that sleeps from 2 to 10 people easily, Located in Le Vivier a small wine growing village in foothills of Pyrenees. 5 Bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, sitting/dining room with kitchen, 2nd sitting room off courtyard, small balcony, playroom, flowery courtyard, parking.

Le Vivier has tennis courts, mini golf, bowls and a church. The town of St Paul is only 15 minutes away and has an outdoor activity centre,swimming pool, shopping, supermarket & restaurants. This region lends itself to the possibility of every kind of outdoor activity: potholing, climbing, rafting, riding, walking, bird watching, in surrounding magnificent country side. Magnificent Cathar castles, Gorge de Galamus and many other tourist attractions close by; (Perpignan(1hr;); Airport with frequent cheap flights. Wonderful flea market Sundays, every kind of restaurant (see google) and lots of things to see. Beaches nearby. Collioure and Ceret (art gallery). The haunt of the impressionists and painters to this day and you will understand why when you visit.

I should have dropped you a line earlier to say how much we

enjoyed our stay at The Old Forge--the house has so much character, and the surroundings are so beautiful. The Via Ferrata on the road to St Paul de Fenouillet is really good fun if you have a head for heights.

Peaceful getaway

The Old Forge is a charming and quirky house which is furnished with real character. Our four children made good use of the ping pong table, and we enjoyed walking and cycling in the beautiful countryside. Walk to the restaurant in St Martin for a nice lunch.

What a wonderful holiday we had at your house, it was so peaceful, and the surroundings were just idealic..The house was so clean and well furnished and so well equiped everything that one needed (it made you feel that you were in your own home)..And what also ade our holiday was that the neigbours were so friendly to us, they agve us directions to the many place's of interest to visit.onc again thank you for the use of your wonderful holiday home.

A Pyrenees Adventure

The details were correct. The village is beautiful up a few z bends on a mountainside. The house is well equipped and comfortable. There are lovely walks around the village and the surrounding area is full of interest. I would recommend this property to people who like to explore new places

Le Vivier is a small wine growing village dominated by the ruins of the castle and with many signs of its medieval origins. Not far from the village of Rennes le chateau famed for its connection to Dan Browns Da Vinci code it is surrounded by magnificent countryside with cathar castles and Romanesque buildings to visit and every kind of outdoor activity catered for nearby. The city of Perpignan is less than an hour away and the famous port of Collioure (where most of the impressionist painter came to paint) a little further down the coast.

St Paul de Fenouillet is 15Ks away with supermarket and all the shops you need although you should make one visit to Auchan the grand supermarket outside Perpignan.

This is a mountainous and wild and rugged countryside and you can just wander the many country paths and enjoy the smells of wild herbs and the magnificent birds and butterflies.

If you like peace and quiet and want to escape your cold climate, come in the spring or the autumn.

  • This is an old house in parts dating from the16C. We have tried to keep the character of the original with mainly. French double beds (120 cms) and furniture and bits and pieces bought from local markets. However the two bathrooms are new with all modern fixtures. On the top floor the bathroom includes a shower while the first floor bathroom has bath and separate shower cubicle. (If you want to see more pictures, please, do not hesitate to contact the owner).

Notes:
If you are considering coming with children or the elderly or infirm, please talk to me about the actual situation. It very much depends on actual age and infirmity. The balcony is small but with lovely views over the village to the castle and the countryside beyond, and is ideal for an evening drink soaking up the atmosphere and enjoying the roses and passion flowers covering the courtyard walls. For larger gatherings you can sit out on the terrace in the sheltered courtyard. There is a second sitting room opening onto the courtyard (The old forge room) and an attic play room for the younger people, with dartboard and table tennis table (bring your on ping pong balls and darts). We try to keep a stock but they always disappear as the season progresses. There are a number of electric fan heaters and both bathrooms have very efficient convector heaters. Not a place to stay in midwinter but lovely in the autumn and spring.
