NYC-based architect & designer. Live between Manhattan and Asbury Park and rent out my family's house when we are not using it. I am always availible by cell or within a 45-minute drive in the event any issues arise during a stay.
Richard Kahoe purchased this house in 2013
This is not a rental property - this is my family's beach house. The house is full of all of the amenities and quality that you would expect from staying in a good friends house - not a typical weekly rental property.
House is on a quiet, street in a safe family-oriented neighborhood. Great neighbors and community. Walking and biking distance to the beach, boardwalk and town w/ restaurants and nigh-life. Easy street parking and 2-car driveway w/ garage.
What an amazing house in an absolutely beautiful neighborhood of Asbury Park, NJ. We are a group of six teachers who needed a place to stay so that we could lay to rest a Brother of ours who passed away. We felt completely welcomed and at home. We were able to prepare a meal using the stunning kitchen. We all had comfortable beds in our own rooms which were uniquely decorated. We were greeted by Richard who was kind and welcoming and obviously takes great pride and the care of his home. We were off season, I can only imagine how amazing this place must be during the summer season.
We were so fortunate to have found this home for our trip to Asbury Park this summer. This 3-story home has been updated in the most tasteful of ways and welcomes everyone as soon as they approach the home. Its wrap-around porch is perfect for gathering family & catching up, the main floor has copious amounts of entertaining space and a kitchen to help you prepare the most extravagant meals. Every bedroom is spacious and beyond comfortable. Central AC and a fabulous backyard with pool make this the ultimate destination in Asbury Park. We truly did not want to leave after our stay. A perfect home for your shore getaway.
My extended family was immediately at home in this large, inviting home.
Morning coffee and evening cocktails on the beautiful and breezy porch. The rest of the day spent around the beautiful new pool and the evening meal on the back deck.
We enjoyed the house so much we rarely left it, but for fireworks on the beech and two meals in the terrific new restaurants on Cookman Ave and environs.
Evenings would find us enjoying a movie in the living room....it was the perfect choice for us.
We found the description and pictures here to be accurate and Richard was available for any questions by phone and even visited once.
We hope to do it again soon and highly recommend 1119!
We had an excellent time in this beautifully appointed home. We had several small children from whom we had to hide some of the more delicate display items. That said, it is still family friendly, warm and welcoming. The porches are great for hanging out, the kitchen and grill are great for big meal preparation. The showers are lovely and the beds were superbly comfortable. There were a few things we needed to communicate with the owner about during our stay but he was highly responsive and took care of the issues immediately. The only reason why we didn't give 5 stars is because the AC stopped working as another reviewer stated and the back porch was being built while we were there so we couldn't use the yard because it had work equipment around. Hopefully both of those things have since been resolved making this the perfect getaway spot.
A Wonderful Vacation
We just spent a wonderful week at this lovely restored home in the Northwest section of Asbury Park The house is located on a quiet tree lined street with similar large homes. The inside of the home is beautifully decorated yet made us feel right at home. The house was well stocked with just about anything you could think of. We cooked several meals on the large Viking stove. There was also a gas grill on the backyard deck which came in handy. We spent several late afternoons watching the sun set on the beautiful wrap around front porch. The beds were extremely comfortable with soft blankets and linens. The 5th Avenue beach is about a 15 to 20 minute walk and about a 3 minute drive by car. The owner, Richard, was extremely responsive to our initial inquiry and to any of our needs during our stay. It is quite obvious that he takes a lot of pride in his home and wants his guests to have a great experience. We had a fantastic week. Thank you Richard for sharing your home with us.
This house has a lot of personality! You can tell the owner has put a lot of work into restoring this beautiful historic house, but there are still a lot of quirks that come along with an old house, so if you are picky about that sort of thing, I would recommend a different property. My brother and I, along with our spouses loved the location and the house with all it's quirks like the "door to nowhere," figuring out the old fashioned on-and-off switches. My parents had reservations and definitely prefer something newer and more standard. Some reviewers recommended this property for "people with disabilities" but heads up- this is not handicapped accessible. Downtown!!! Websites about Asbury Park really need to advertise the downtown area more. What a pleasant surprise. Make sure you save at least a day to browse the eclectic stores, yummy and fun restaurants and bookstore (each of us left with something!) The downtown beaches are a bit far away for the average walker, so I did not recommend the house for tourists without a car.
There is no Lanai / Gazebo or Balcony that we could find. The garage is a building on the property but it cannot be used as a garage. The bed was super comfortable and the AC worked great- quiet neighborhood, we slept great. I love the history of Asbury Park and that it is experiencing a Renaissance. The energy of the town is vibrant-- with diversity like a real community, not just another beach-town. The third floor- one room with two twins and the other room with a queen and a giant poofy bean bag thing (held our 6 and 7 year old) was perfect for the kid cousins!
I loved the decour-- everywhere you look there is another artistic touch. The few "beach" themed items were beautifully understated and classy (no seashell creatures or ceramic lighthouse collections which I really appreciated.) Towels were big and fluffy and linens were so so so soft. Made a real difference to have them provided. Another great summer beach vacation! One we won't soon forget!
My friends and family had a wonderful week at the house and thoroughly enjoyed cooking and relaxing. It is not too far from the beach and in the lovely Northwest section of Asbury Park. Richard was very attentive. The a/c stopped working and he had a technician out within an hour on a Saturday night. It worked perfectly afterward. We will definitely be back again.
