About Michael P Keator

Greetings! I moved from Upstate New York in 1980 to Jackson Hole Wyoming. For the next ten years I guided river trips and wilderness pack trips with horses and mules, guided in wilderness hunting camps and backcountry ski trips, and taught Telemark and cross country skiing. In 1987 I worked for the US Forest Service as a backcountry ranger in the Teton Wilderness. In the summer of 1990 I began my career in Yellowstone National Park as a US Park Ranger. I worked all over the park until June of 2012 when I retired to West Yellowstone, Montana. Currently I live in a log house that I built in Lazy Acres in 2005. I enjoy mountain biking, hiking, fly fishing, rafting and skiing along with a sincere desire to share the surrounding area with visitors that don't have the opportunity to live here.

Michael P Keator purchased this house in 2014

Why Michael P Keator chose Lazy Acres

This property is unique because I designed it to meet the needs of friends and family vacationing in Yellowstone National Park and the surrounding area. The area will give you all the excitement you can handle, and I wanted a place that you can return to after a long day and totally relax in the comfort and style of Montana.

Even though the summer months have a six night minimum, I will accept rentals that fill in the gap between rentals. You can check in the same day someone is checking out. Call if you are interested.

What makes this house unique

The Fox Den Lodge is not only unique because of the mountain views but the close proximity to Yellowstone National Park and the country setting it sits in. The name comes from the fact that during the summer of 2013 we enjoyed the adventures and follies of a fox and her 5 kits that built their den under the shed next door. We occasionally have moose and deer walk through Lazy Acres during the summer.

Absolutely Fabulous!

  • 5 of 5

This property is beautiful. We have been to Yellowstone 6 years in a row now and wish we would have found this 5 years earlier. We had 7 people here and had plenty of room. We never felt like we were on top of each other. The rooms each have their own bathroom, which was amazing. The owner, Michael, has thought of everything you might need while away from home. You literally need to bring clothes and food and that is it! The kitchen is stocked "just like home" including a crock pot. Michael lives in the area and is available any time you have a question or need something. And the decor was perfect. Loved the cabin feel. We will definitely be staying here again in the future. A++ for sure.

This house was just as wonderful as it looks in the photos. It was perfect for the 3 couples we had, 3 singles or an extended family. Very comfortable and well stocked. Clean and perfectly maintained. We loves the 3.5 baths and laundry. The sauna was beautiful. Just 10 minutes to West Yellowstone made the location great for exploring Yellowstone or Idaho State Parks. I would enjoy staying here even if it wasn’t close to Yellowstone.

We didn’t see the fox but did see a couple elk while hiking the trail close by and deer in the back yard.

Michael met with us and gave us great tips. Very organized. He really does want to help you plan your vacation.

I have stayed in 6 VRBO homes and this was by far the best. So much information ahead of time.

Our place was just perfect. Lazy acres has some very nice homes & is very peaceful.

Except for some traffic noise it was great. The kitchen was fully stocked.

We saw every kind of wild animal in the park except a bear & the one place we

didnt expect to see a moose but did, was right on our street!!

Excellent in every way! Great access to greater Yellowstone, well furnished and clean as a whistle!

We fit 6 grown men, comfortably, into this little slice of Yellowstone heaven. Micheal is a perfect host. Quick to get back and a wealth of knowledge regarding West Yellowstone, the park, and other hidden gems. I’d highly recommend the Fox Den to anyone looking to get lost in Montana’s beautifully rugged charm. Fox Den is well worth a week’s stay, at the least. Book it, now... you won’t regret it!

The perfect location

  • 5 of 5

If you are visiting Yellowstone, this is the PERFECT place to stay. Just minutes from the entrance of Yellowstone and downtown. The property has everything you and your family could ever need while vacationing. Our crockpot that we brought with us stopped working the second day there, but to the rescue (and our surprise), there was one there at the house that we used for some hassle-free meals after spending a long day in the park. As stated before, this home had everything.

The owner is first class. His communication and response to your stay are outstanding. As others have stated, take him up on his helpful advice if offered. He has tips and information about the park and surrounding areas that are priceless. If my family and I visit Yellowstone any time in the near future, you can guarantee this is my first choice to stay.
