Property type lodge
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

Lodge, 7 Bedrooms, 3 Bathrooms On 5 Acre Homestead With Private Pond, Sleeps 15

Summer or winter, this rustic retreat is perfect for some Montana mountain play time. It's one you'll fall in love with and won't want to leave!

Grandpa's Cabin is one of two original family homesteads we offer in this very special location, easily one of the most unique in the U.S. Its five acres are situated on a family homestead and the property is bordered by Duck Creek pond, which offer some of the best blue ribbon trout fishing in the West.

The property is less than 1/8 mile from Yellowstone National Park on its west side, and offers easy access across the street to backcountry trails in both Yellowstone Park and Gallatin National Forest.

This home offers breathtaking views of nature at its finest, and with huge picture windows offering views across Duck Creek pond to the western mountains of Yellowstone National Park.

Wildlife Viewing: Duck Creek Retreat and the immediate surrounding area is rich in wildlife, including bison, elk, deer, moose, grizzly bear, black bear, otter, beaver, muskrat, Canadian geese, ducks, Trumpeter swan and Sandhill cranes.

Fishing: World class fishing is available on private Duck Creek and Duck Creek Pond. A professionally installed fish ladder permits runs of wild Brown and Rainbow trout from the Madison River and nearby Hebgen Lake. Native Brook trout also inhabit the pond and Brown trout up to 32 inches have been caught and released. A Montana fishing license is not required to fish on the Pond, but it is on other Montana waters. A Yellowstone Park license is required to fish inside the Park.

The west entrance to Yellowstone Park and the town of West Yellowstone are only a short 8.5 mile (14km) drive away, W. Yellowstone offers everything you'd hope to find in a destination resort town, from restaurants, live theater, museums and shopping to equipment rentals and guide services.

Perfect Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We loved Grandpa's Cabin!! The accommodations were perfect for our group of 13 that included three families with children ages 8-15. We had more than enough sleeping space and the two indoor living areas provided space for the adults and the kids to enjoy themselves. Our kids absolutely loved having the room with the pool table, tv, etc; to hang out in. We brought our Wii and they had a great time in the evenings and our one rainy day.

We were very impressed by that was provided in the cabin. Paper products, laundry soap and dryer sheets, and a VERY well appointed kitchen. We took small appliances with us such as a griddle, crockpot and blender that were already provided in the kitchen. Also, prior guests have created a well stocked spice cabinet.

During our week long stay we purposefully spent two whole days just hanging out at the cabin instead of outside activities. We really enjoyed the outdoor space with electric awning for shade during the day and the fire pit for the cool evenings. Our kids spent hours fishing and canoeing in the lake. The scenery was absolutely spectacular!

The close proximity to Yellowstone's West Entrance made day trips to the park very easy.

Thank you so much for allowing our families to enjoy your cabin for the week. We are already dreaming of a return trip in the future!

We loved Grandpa's cabin!

  • 4 of 5

We had 13 people in our group and it was very comfortable with beds and room to spare. If you are traveling to Yellowstone and need a place for a big group, this is it. The 4 stars is not intended to compare it to a 4 star hotel (it's a mountain cabin not the Hilton) but if you are looking for a quiet cabin in the woods close to town and all of its amenities, you cannot beat this place. Being only 9 miles form West Yellowstone, we were able to take in everything there and have convenient access to the park. The outdoor firepit and lake views made for a great atmosphere. The kids loved paddling the canoe. We even caught trout at the lake. The entire process was easy. The cabin had everything you would need: clean comfortable beds, roomy baths, kitchen, coffee maker, washer/dryer, fridge, utensils, etc. We had a couple of small issues that the management company took care of immediately. The only thing I could suggest to the owners is to trim or remove the brush along the lake. It's getting pretty tall and starting to obstruct the wonderful views and removing it would make the shoreline more usable as well. Thanks for the memories! I will definitely recommend Grandpa's cabin to others.

Great Place for Family Gatherings or Groups

  • 5 of 5

We loved this place! If was perfect for our three generations of family gathering. The grandkids had plenty of room to run, play and ride their bikes. Their parents enjoyed the fire pit, patio and playing pool. We, the grandparents, enjoyed watching everyone enjoy themselves in this spacious house with a million dollar view. We enjoyed using the canoe and exploring the pond. And, best of all, we were very close to the West Yellowstone and the West Entrance to Yellowstone for day trips into the park. We will definitely be coming back!

Grandpa's Cabin

  • 4 of 5

Grandpa's cabin is very large! We had a great time lounging in the living rooms and enjoying a fire next to the river. Our last morning we spotted some river otters with a fish! The cabin is close enough to town that you can go in for a god ski and some food. Great location.
