What makes this condo unique

Guestbook comments from the owner

Me and my BFF had the pleasure of staying at the Kona Reef condo of

Joe and Ann. This ocean front condo was beautiful, clean and the Sunset

was magnificent to look at. The condo is walking distance from all the restaurants, shops, hotels. Their is a beach right next door to the condo.

We ranted a car but hardly used it. Next year we will come back to this beautiful condo but will not rent a car. Down the street walking there is a farmers market, any kinda food you could ever want.

The condo was decorated really nice, Hawaii plants Hawaiian furniture

I just can"t say enough good things about this condo.

But will be back next yr and stay here again....................

Great View, but condo a little worn

  • 3 of 5

The condo was very well equipped with beach towels, chairs, sunscreen, shampoo, etc. And the kitchen had a nice array of staples---salt and pepper, soy sauce, sesame oil, teriyaki sauce, etc.

The bed is not comfortable at all. It's kind of lumpy and really should be replaced. Also, there are stains on the ceiling in the living room. There's also rust on some of the appliances.

Overall, we'd give it a 3.5 on a scale of 1-5. The best thing about it is the gorgeous view. The pool and grounds are nicely maintained as well.

Great location

  • 3 of 5

The condo complex is in a great location, within easy walking distance to the Kona shopping and restaurant area. We avoided going toward town in the 2 days that we saw the cruise ship anchored off shore. The unit itself has a gorgeous view of the ocean and is pretty private. Watch for "tourism" boats to gather off shore as this usually indicates a whale or a pod of dolphins off shore. Wish I had remembered to bring my binoculars! Newer furniture in the living room is very comfortable and clean. However, when we arrived, the musty/damp smell in the apartment was overwhelming and took a couple of days to air out. Drapes and lamp shades are stained, kitchen appliances are rusted. Bed was fairly comfortable, but pillows are old and have no loft in them. Air conditioner works well and cools the place efficiently when used with the ceiling fan in the bedroom. We used the beach chairs that were left in the closet and purchased a cooler a little larger than the one that was there. We left it for future tenants to use. Parking is a problem in the complex. Came home on several evenings and had difficulty finding parking. Do not leave anything out on the lanai! We left our shoes out after a day of hiking and my husband's shoes were stolen! Overall, we had a great stay in Kona. It looks like the condo owners have put in new floors and cooktop and may be working toward other improvements as well. The oceanfront location is definitely a little piece of heaven!

Owner's Response: Thank you for the update, we are arriving on April 1 to repair and updating, I will spend a week working so our next guest enjoys our home in Kona. Every year we have to go for painting, replacing and repairing because of the salt air and humidity everything gets a little rusty.

Amazing ocean views! Great location, close to shops and restaurants!

  • 4 of 5

From the lanai you are entertained by outriggers, surfers, tour boats, parasailing and cruise ships. The condo needs a little TLC in certain areas((larger bed, new tub in bathroom and new drapes in living room as they are very worn). Overall this was a very enjoyable place to spend our 3 week vacation and we will definitely be back in the future.

Great location, lovely condo, right on the water

  • 5 of 5

We spent nearly two weeks on Hawaii, using the condo in Kailua as our home base for many adventures. The condo was exactly as depicted - right on the ocean, with a walking path on the other side of a low wall between us and the surf. It was an easy walk from here into Kailua, although the road is busy, and does not have consistent sidewalks. There was a small beach just to the south with surfers in the breakers every day. We took advantage of the nearby Kailua Farmer's market for great produce, and cooked in the condo, which was well-equipped. It was easy getting the keys out of the lockbox when we arrived. Getting the parking pass for the rental car was somewhat challenging, as it seemed the condo office was rarely open - leaving a reusable pass in the condo with the spare keys might be a better strategy. However, no one hassled us about not having the pass in our car. We'll be back!

My husband and I traveled with our 12 year old daughter had a wonderful time at your condo. Access to the ocean and grounds out the patio was an added bonus. Location was great! If we travel to Kona again we would stay here if it's available. Thank you!

We will be back

  • 4 of 5

We stayed in Unit D5 for 15 days. It was a one bed with a pull out couch but we were two people so it worked fine. The complex is old but well kept with lots of parking. The pool area is very clean and well maintained. We generally don't use the pool but this time we did and it is situated right next to the ocean with lots of chairs and loungers. Our unit was on the ground floor with an "in your face" view of the ocean, it took some getting used to it was so close. The unit was tasteful and had everything we needed. The only thing missing was an umbrella which was needed. The unit has no safe which is something we did not expect but we coped. The AC is loud but effective. The best part about the complex is the proximity to the Aliii strip, a 7 minute stroll. We walked to town every few days to shop and eat out and it was always bustling and interesting. The rocky reef in front has some great snorkelling so we heard, we did not snorkel there but saw many people in and out. Worth the effort if you can navigate your way in. The little beach next door to the complex is great. We would come back to the complex and unit as the trip for us was about getting out and doing things not the glamour of the space we stayed in.
