Dr. Joy Falkenburg and her husband Matt Brown have lived in the Black Hills since 1999. They purchased the Little Red Inn in 2013 and opened it for use as a vacation home in 2014. They live next to Custer State Park with their family and enjoy the beauty and serenity of the Black Hills and all it has to offer all year long.
Matt Brown and Joy Falkenburg purchased this cottage in 2013
We live just down the road from the Little Red Inn. It had been for sale and every time we drove by we thought about buying it and opening it up for vacationers to enjoy when they stayed in the Black Hills. It is in a beautiful location and is close enough to both Custer and Custer State Park to be the perfect spot for people who are visiting the Hills. It also has a fenced in pasture for horses in case travelers are here with their horses to enjoy the Hills. The granite outcroppings east of Custer and Calamity Peak are just across the road from the Little Red Inn. Calamity Peak is one of the most photographed granite peaks in the Hills.
Our motto is that you can 'hold your horses here'. If you are in the Black Hills to ride, bring your horses with you and leave them in our spacious pasture while you relax at the Little Red Inn. We also have a fire pit so you and the family or friends (or both!) can roast s'mores under the beautiful night sky of Custer.
We came to visit family and stayed with our family and her sister and her family. It worked out wonderful. We were able to have time for the kids to nap and we were able to eat at the house and still close enough to Custer to enjoy it as well. Lots of room inside and outside. The kids could safely play and the temps were perfect. I would come back here with my family again.
We enjoyed our stay at this nice place. Good location for what we wanted to do and see in the southern part of Black Hills. Big yard, deer eating grass mornings and evenings. Didn't bring kids but it would work great for kids, worked fine for 4 adults needing 3 bedrooms. Good value in its price range, don't raise price because I said it's a good value, we are hoping to come back next year :)
Fun place with good amenities. Would stay again.
We enjoyed staying at the Little Red Inn. It had everything we needed. The deer on the front lawn in the morning, the horses next door and the fire at night added to our relaxing stay! We would definitely recommend this cute house to everyone!! Thanks!!
This was a very beautiful place to stay!!! Very clean, very homey, and had everything we needed for our vacation.
This is a very easy place to find. Location was perfect for what we wanted!!
Thank you so much for lending your home!!
My wife, 3 children (14, 12 and 11) and I stayed in this very clean and lovely home. The location was perfect for our very active vacation with hiking, swimming and tours. The kitchen had everything needed to cook up some great meals after a long physical day. The ponies next door where big hit with our kids. We appreciated the dry firewood in the garage! Thank you for sharing your home.
We had a great time at this home. It was in a great location, so close to the park and to other roads leading to our destinations. Market was close as well. Had all the amenities that we needed, fresh towels, linens, etc all exceeded expectations. Laundry on site was perfect. Loved the cozy kitchen for games with family and enjoyed sitting on the deck and using fire pit. Kids had a great time looking at the horses and deer and running through the yard! Would stay here again if headed that direction. Thank you!
Ideally located three miles from Custer and two miles from Custer State Park, we are centrally located to all your Black Hills activities, including Wind Cave, the Needles Highway, Mt. Rushmore, Sylvan Lake, Crazy Horse, Hill City, Keystone, Custer State Park, the Mickelson Trail, Custer, Rapid City and Iron Mt. Road. Interested in horseback riding? The Little Red Inn has fenced pasture available so you can 'hold your horses here.' We are close to Iron Creek horse camp, a premiere horse riding trail system.
For hunters, wildlife enthusiasts, and fishermen, opportunities abound! You are likely to see whitetail deer, wild turkey, elk, coyotes, and the occasional mountain lion on or around the property. Stockade and Bismark Lake are just over the hill and provide opportunity for fly and traditional line fishing for trout, perch, crappie, bass, northern, and sunfish. Buffalo also roam just minutes away in Custer State Park.
Horse boarding needs to be arranged with owner.
Dog boarding fee of $50/dog for 1-7 days (must be guest). Absolutely no pets in the house. Horses welcome for a boarding fee of $50 per horse for 1-7 days (must also be guest). Horse pasture is fenced.
