About Rhona and Carroll Kimble

I and my Husband own this cabin and have been renting it out for several years . Vacationers say they really enjoy coming and staying at the Hideaway.I Have to decided to start advertising with VRBO since I have our other cabin The Potomac Overlook listed with this site also

Rhona and Carroll Kimble purchased this cabin in 1995

Why Rhona and Carroll Kimble chose Upper Tract

The Hideaway is close to the South Branch of the Potomac River where great fishing is offered several times a year plus the great fly fishing sport that many people enjoy doing. Plus there is lots of scenic things to enjoy here in our own Pendleton and Grant counties of WV.

What makes this cabin unique

Set on the porch an enjoy the stars come up or watch the wild life like deer, squirrels, turkeys or bald eagle come by. Or just enjoy that book you have been wanting to read until the stars come out at night. It is a real relaxing place to come. Wild Wonderful WV. at Smoke Hole.

Thank You for your hospitality.

Great Time

  • 5 of 5

This is a great cabin and a great location for peace and quiet or if you want to get out and see the attractions. We totally enjoyed ourselves -- hot tub, fire pit, nature and hiking, Ruddle Park, Smoke Hole Caverns, Spruce Knob and lake. If you stay here, you must take Smoke Hole Road over to Smoke Hole Caverns, the most spectacular drive.

Owner's Response: Rhonda, it was a pleasure to have you and your family to stay at our Hideaway cabin. You all were one of the most respectful and caring quests. You left the cabin with everything washed and the cabin very clean. I truly hope you enjoyed yourselves as much as you made me believe you did. Glad you enjoyed our surrounding area and hope you may return in the future. Rhona , Hap and Bella!!!!

Clean, comfortable, relaxing, owners nice and helpful

  • 5 of 5

Our family enjoyed our stay. Everything was labeled and it made it easy to know what switches/remotes went to what. Great place with a secluded feel. We will definitely recommend it to family and friends. You get a lot for the price.

Mt. Pleasant

Very nice place to stay. But you are very unplugged. And not much to do..but that can be nice.

Very nice place! I loved all the space we had. We all had our private areas to go at bedtime. Loved having 2 bathrooms. Something I don't get at home. The hot tub was very nice.I loved having a washer and dryer, especially with a hot tub. Clean dry swim stuff every time we wanted to get in. Also unlike a usual trip where you take a huge amount of dirty clothes home, I took home suitcases of clean, ready to put away clothes. I bought a small jug of detergent at the Family Dollar and a small box of dryer sheets, the perect amount, and I did a good bit of loads with that. And it allowed me to get the home owners started on the bedsheets, I had all the towels we used washed and put away. I also loved being able to bring our 2 boxers. And I know they loved coming with us. They were very comfortable there. They had everything we needed. For cooking, bedding, and towels.

The only complaints would be no wifi, and I know we are there to get away, but I google everything. ..what is there to do, nearest store, what can we do on the way home, directions, etc. Also we couldn't stay in touch with our families at all. They did give us fair warning that At&t is best, but you're not gonna change your service for 1 trip. There is some beautiful sight seeing but other than that....NOTHING. which is ok if you don't want to do anything, and just be there to hang out. But we had 4 drizzly ugly days so maybe a shopping day or something would have been nice. They did have 1 nice gift shop and 1 nice little gift type store with really friendly workers. One other tiny thing was, usually I've only interacted with cabin owners IF we paid them cash. (They was already paid in full over website) homeowner showed up two times, I did not meet him. I was at the store the first time, my kids met him, and down stairs the second, I heard he was friendly, but I almost felt like we was being checked on. Maybe we shouldn't of felt that way, but we've rented many cabins throughout the years and never had that happen. But he did let us know if we got ice on the deck he would come take care of it. I'm sure it would have been nicer if we had nicer weather to be in the yard or sit on the deck. Also we made a wrong turn (no Google map to go by) it took an hour out of day, but one benefit was we saw a beautiful owl. The only wildlife we saw. But it was exciting. Again if you want to sit around the cabin and do nothing, or read a book, and stay out of touch- perfect.

Owner's Response: Thank you for posting a review for us. We are in the process of getting WIFI at this cabin also just don't know how long it may take. We always try to meet our renters to answer any questions they may have for us and make sure everything is ok with them, we were absolutely not checking on you that we did not trust you, just trying to be nice and show our appreciation that you had chosen our Hideaway with the hot-tub which you said you did enjoy. There are places to gift shop in our local towns of Petersburg and Franklin and Smoke Hole gift shop is Great!! This is 1 reason we like to meet our renters to let them know of things to do and see in the area and how far they are to go to. Hope you may return another time when the weather may be much better for you all to enjoy your stay and enjoy the outdoors here in our beautiful area at Smoke Hole. The Kimbles
