This is the home of H. Tracy Hall, the physical chemist who invented the first reproducible process for making diamonds in the laboratory while working at General Electric way back in the fifties. Dr. Hall's invention made an incalculable fortune for G.E. His reward? A $10. savings bond. Needless to say, Dr. Hall was disheartened by the lack of credit he received and landed himself a professorship at Brigham Young University in Provo, where he taught chemistry and conducted high pressure research. But there's much more to this story than diamonds. You can learn more about Tracy and his family when you visit this 'GEM' of a home!
From the moment you walk into this home, you will feel a warm and inviting spirit about it. Many of our Guests say; 'It's even better than we expected!'. It's interesting to look at the many historical pictures placed about the house that tell the story of H Tracy Hall the chemist, and his wife & children that were raised in the home.
Reading was an important part of life for the Hall family, so our guests will find several book-cases throughout the home filled with interesting books that once belonged to Tracy (for all you science lovers) and some of Ida Rose's collectables right along side them.
The south wall in the formal living room is made up of huge glass windows and doors that offer a breathtaking view of the lower gardens, the Wasatch Mountains and BYU Campus. The well kept wooden floors are original to the home, as are the mahogany built in's you will find in almost every room. The Kitchen has a new 'old style' refrigerator which is really fun.
New guests are always excited to find a generous 'welcome basket' on the kitchen table that is stuffed with assorted treats and other fun surprises. An assortment of drinks, snacks & breakfast items can also be found in the refrigerator & cupboards. This is the perfectplace for guests who want a homey vacation experience in a residential neighborhood where they can mingle with the locals, but want the added benefit of a VERY convenient location.
Please note: This Vacation Rental Home along with the others we manage are currently booked out through December 15th, 2016. Unfortunately we won't be able to accomodate you unless you request travel dates after that. Our Vacation Rental Home is usually booked 3-6 months out, so please think ahead, we'd love to serve you in the future.
Zoning in this neighborhood restricts us from renting the home for less than 30 days. You can reserve the home anyway as long as you pay the advertised monthly fee and sign a lodging agreement that's 30 days long. Even though the reservation is for 30 days, you can check-out anytime you please and the city is fine with that as long as we don't re-rent the home to anyone else until your lodging agreement expires.
Compare and run the numbers; our rates are so reasonable that our monthly rate is usually less than our competitors nightly rate for two or three weeks. Remember, we are always happy to answer any questions you might have about this home and the other's we manage!
My name is Nancy Hall Mecham. I'm the youngest Daughter of the World-renowned Chemist Dr. H. Tracy Hall and his life long sweetheart, Ida Rose Langford Hall. My Husband Doug and I were both born & raised in Provo, and were High School Sweethearts. We have 4 children, 3 daughters and a son with multi disabilities, and are proud grandparents of 5 darling grandchildren. Doug & I manage the H. Tracy Hall Legacy Home, which is where I grew up. We enjoy meeting new people & making friends from all walks of life, and would love to have a chance to serve you!

The property is located directly across the street from the main entrance to the BYU Marriott Center Parking Lot, where Education Week, Womens' Conference, and BYU Basketball games are held (along with many other events)! The BYU Lavell Edwards football stadium is just 1.5 blocks away, The MTC 4 blocks, The LDS Temple 5 blocks, The BYU Creamery is just through the Marriott Center parking lot, and up a set of stairs.
Our family has worked diligently to restore and preserve the H. Tracy Hall Legacy Home & Park for historical purposes. This home was designed & built in 1954 by my parents, H. Tracy & Ida Rose Hall. They wanted to live close to Brigham Young University (BYU) where my Father was a member of the Department of Chemistry, Physics & Biochemistry and where he spent 26 years teaching as a professor and researching in the field of high pressure and high temperatures. Along the way they raised seven children, five girls and two boys. When Mom & Dad passed away, my Brother David bought our family home, and the neighbors homes above it and below it, and replaced and replaced them with lawns, gardens, trees, recreation areas, an orchid greenhouse, pavilion, catering kitchen & splash pad. The H Tracy Hall Home was restored to it's original beauty, and still contains some of the original furnishings.

We stayed in this lovely home for the month of December. It could not have been a more perfect setting; at the base of the beautiful snow-covered mountains, and right across from BYU. The minute you walk into the home there is a feeling of warmth and it's easy to settle right in. Beautifully decorated with luxury linens, along with immaculate grounds. I am a clean freak, and I could find nothing that needed additional cleaning in this home. Every detail was seen to so that our stay was easy and pleasant. We rank this among one of the top rentals in the area for comfort, beauty, cleanliness, location, and ease. This home will remain in our memories for years and we would feel blessed to rent again in the future.
The home is historic and has been well-preserved. But even more impressive is the relationship the family has been able to preserve, all of them working together from cleaning, to shoveling snow, etc. It is very heart-warming to see a family so close and dedicated to their family's legend and history. It is a touching true tribute to their parents.
My only suggestions is: it needs a (hand) potato masher! :)
We highly recommend this home and you can bet we will be looking for an opportunity to return.
Had a wonderful time at the Hall legacy home in Provo. Steps from BYU campus making it an excellent location for a visiting professor. All the comforts of home and wonderful owners who took great care of us. Highly recommended!
Our family stayed in the Felker Home during the summer. Our entire family loved it! Very tastefully decorated, very well appointed with everything you might need, and excellent access to the BYU campus and surrounding area. The owners were a delight and very welcoming and attentive, without being intrusive at all. They even invited and included our family in their families 4th of July fireworks. This is the best vacation rental experience we've ever had.
My wife, son, and daughter stayed in the Hall Legacy Home while they attended Spring Semester at BYU. They loved it! The home is inspiring filled with memories and replica's of the beautiful family who lived there. It was a fun and perfect stay for my family. The owners went above and beyond to make sure that everything was wonderful from fresh flowers, gift baskets, and house cleaner to arranging lawn chairs for our guests for a late night outdoor movie on the big screen. Be assured they were never intrusive, just there if anything was ever needed and more than willing to be of help. The location of the home is across the street from BYU and within walking distance to the LDS Temple and mountain trails. We wholeheartedly recommend this property as a rental. It is simply ideal.
My family and I had an amazing time staying at the Hall Legacy Home. It started with a delicious and unexpected basket of goodies and ice cream that was waiting for us when we arrived!
The 50s decoration and the attention to detail the managers give the whole property is simply stunning. The home is extremely clean and very well kept. The furniture style, decoration and books around the home take you on a trip back into the 50s! Even the refrigerator, which although is brand new, looks like it came from the 50s. Not to mention the amazing outside BBQ patio, greenhouse, basketball and volleyball court!
Staying in the Hall Legacy Home has been an absolutely amazing experience and we will definitely come back. This is always going to be our first choice of place to stay in Utah! I totally recommend it.
I must warn you though, it is impossible not to become good friends with the managers! They are one of the nicest people I have ever met!
My husband and I stayed at the rental across from the legacy house and loved our stay there. We loved the fun 50s decorations and themes throughout the house: the countertops, sinks, stove, oven, wood floors, and other elements are from the original house and are and in great shape. I loved the attention to detail of even having smaller appliances like the vegetable peeler and the popcorn maker look 50s-esque. The managers do an excellent job of keeping it very clean and in good shape.
We loved staying in a fun, authentic house from the 50s while still being able to have access to Wifi, TV, nice pots and pans, a Kitchenaid, new washer and dryer, etc. I would definitely recommend staying in this home; you can't get much closer to campus, and we had a great time.
This guest home is within 1 minute of the BYU Marriott Center, the Lavelle Edwards football stadium, and the Miller Park Baseball Stadium. Guests of the LDS faith enjoy staying here to see their missionaries off to the Mission Training Center which is located just 2 blocks east. This location couldn't be any more convenient if you and your guests like to attend BYU activities such as Women's conference, Education week, BYU graduation or football, basketball, baseball games or field & track activities. If you've got a craving for a double scoop of Ice Cream, we're within walking distance of either of BYU's two Creamery Markets (5-10 minutes), and the Dairy Queen. Out of gas? No problem, the nearest Chevron is just 3 blocks away. Next door to that is a Well's Fargo bank, Swig (drinks & provo's best sugar cookies), Hawaiian Shave-ice, and Farmers Market (August thru October). 5 blocks away is 'Brighams Landing', where you'll find The Cocoa Bean Cupcake Cafe, DP Cheesesteaks, Sub Zero Ice Cream & Yogurt, Jamba Juice, Great Harvest Bread, Fed Ex, and many other cool shops! Want a little adventure? How about some Indoor rock climbing at 'The Quarry' located less than a mile from here. And right next door is the Cinemark Movies 8 theatre, Shopko, Lo Lo's groceries, Pizza, Cafe Rio, Zuppa's Soups & Salads, Wal-Mart Market, The Olive Garden, Shirley's Bakery, CVS Pharmacy, Vasa Fitness , 24 Hour Fitness, The Red Lobster, Kohls, Maverick, The University Mall -- all these and more within one or two miles of our properties. The Provo Towne Center Mall & Theatres are 4 miles away, Seven Peaks Water Park & the 2002 Winter Olympics Ice Skating rink is 2 miles away. Our location just can't be beat! You'll have less driving to do and more vacation fun at this home which is located on the border of University Parkway, in a residential neighborhood. UTA's (Utah Transit Authority's) most popular bus route (University Parkway) is located just TWO minutes from the property's front door!

Rates are subject to change until a reservation is confirmed by the Agent and a reservation is tentative until the initial payment has cleared. The Agent strongly recmmends that the Guest purchase cancellation or 'cancel for any reason' insurance to help protect or offset the amount of loss suffered on their vacation investment if the guest is forced to cancel, or even just decides to cancel his or her reservation before or during the contracted term. Guests that cancel their reservation 31 days or more prior to their Check-in-date will receive a refund for all of the money they paid to the Agent, less a $300. administrative fee. Refunds and/or discounts will not be granted when a Guest terminates a reservation 30 days or less prior to the check-in date or terminates their stay any time after the check-in-date for reasons or circumstances that are beyond the Agent's control such as but not limited to; death, work related issues, healty related issues, flight or travel problems or interruptions, lost baggage, car trouble or accidents, storms, fires, earthquakes, floods, war, acts of God, construction, mechanical or equipment failure, interruptions or failure of appliances, utilities, internet or cable TV, and Guest dis-satisfaction of the VRH & property unless the Agent has grossly or intentionally mis-represented the property to the Guest n this or other websites. Refunds and/or discounts will not be given for problems or inconveniences that occur as a result of local construction, events in vicinity of the rental, or events held in the Legacy park, or for circumstances or problems beyond the Agents control. The Guest acknowleges that they booked the reservation with full knowledge that large events such as weddings might be held in the Legacy Park (the yard that surrounds this vacation rental home) during their stay, which might be disruptive & may cause inconveniences to the Guest. Guests do not have exclusive rights in their use of the park.
Payment in full at the time the reservation is required if the reservation is placed less than 30 days prior to the check-in date & is non-refundable. Otherwise, A 50% downpayment of all fees owed will hold a reservation and the remaining balance is owed no later than 30 days prior to the date of check-in. A valid credit card is required & will be placed on file in place of a security deposit.
