|Minimum Stay||2 nights|
Every room looks out over the lawn past the birch and pines onto the world's largest freshwater lake. Relax with your coffee on the seawall as waves crash against the boulder-strewn shore. Listen to the call of loons or relax on the log swing as you watch the sun rise. The North Shore of Lake Superior will thrill you with its wilderness beauty. For the outdoor adventurer, the 3 state parks located within 9 miles of the house will amaze you with an historic cliff-top lighthouse at Split Rock, towering waterfalls at Gooseberry and Tettegouche, rock climbing on Shovel Point and Palisade Head, kayaking at all the parks, bicycling on the Gitchi-Gammi Trail (top of our driveway) and shopping and dining within 10 minutes at Castle Danger, Beaver Bay and Silver Bay. You'll also be within an hour of Grand Marais, where you'll find dozens of restaurants and shops as well as access to the Gunflint Trail, and you'll be a half hour from Two Harbors with its giant ore docks, lighthouse, shopping and dining. For downhill skiers, you'll be 40 minutes from Lutsen Mountains ski resort and 1 hour from Spirit Mountain. Want to play a round of golf? You're 40 miles from Superior National Golf Course. You can even charter a Lake Superior fishing expedition out of Silver Bay Marina (5 miles away), rent snowmobiles from Beaver Bay Sports, or rent a boat for small lake fishing on Lax Lake nearby. Bikes, canoes and kayaks are available from local outfitters as well.
This four-bedroom home features a spacious living and dining room area with beautiful Lake Superior views, a gas fireplace, 2 queen-sized beds, 2 doubles beds and a crib. The comfortably appointed kitchen offers the chef in you two ovens, a center island with new countertop, sink and dishwasher and a breakfast nook with a bay window. Downstairs, you'll find the master bedroom and a full bathroom with new tile, tub and shower surround. Upstairs, there are three comfortable bedrooms with a half bathroom.
Two decks, one with a screen house in the summer months, offer outdoor dining, a propane grill and a wildflower garden. Enjoy the lake from the log swing in the yard or from the seawall on the dramatic shoreline.
With a long family tradition of vacationing on the north shore, we were camping at Temperance State Park in the summer of 2000. We spent a rainy day exploring homes for sale. As soon as we drove down the driveway and saw four foot waves crashing on the shore during the storm, we knew this was a special place. One of the few family homes on the north shore with a comfortable sized lawn as well a s a rugged, natural lakeshore, Lupine Lodge was neither too big nor too small. From the seawall, to the outdoor decks to the lake views from every room, we never had to think about what we wanted 'to do.' Just being there together has always been a perfect getaway as a couple, as a family or with a group of friends.
With three spectacular state parks less than ten minutes away, access to excellent dining nearby, the peace of the lake, the beauty of the north woods and the rich history of the north shore, there's a terrific balance for those seeking the thrill of outdoor adventures, the relaxation of watching the waves crash on the shore or the peace of an evening with a home-cooked meal by the fire.
Loved the location and size of the house. The kitchen is awesome for cooking with two ovens and plenty of counter space. Love the views from each room of the lake. Beds were more firm than we are used to but slept well. Lovely place.
The one issue we ran into was that the gas grill was not firing on all burners. We did wait a little extra to see if it would come up to temp. It never did and we ended up using the stove inside. Not a huge deal, but we typically prefer a grilled steak. Outside of that, this was definitely a great deal and we would book again. We come to this area at least once a year, staying in different places each time. We may not go to another property. Enjoyed the time there, the privacy, and the location to Lake Superior. We haven't found many in this price range with better!! Thank you!!
5 of us decided to celebrate Thanksgiving on the North Shore. We arrived on Wednesday, and enjoyed the big kitchen with plenty of space for multiple cooks to work and chat for the big meal. Lake Superior provided the perfect backdrop for reflecting on all that we have to be thankful for. There was plenty of room to gather or to go off for some private time. we will surely return.
We stayed at Lupine Lodge for a week and really enjoyed our stay. The home has plenty of dishes and everything else you might need. There were three couples and a single woman in our party and we never felt crowded. The property is wonderful and the view of the lake is fabulous. My only complaint is that the grill wasn't working well and the beds were kind of small for couples. Otherwise it was pretty much heaven. Also, the owner is very nice and responds quickly to questions. We would definitely stay again!
My parents (in their late 60s/early 70s), my family (with two young children) and my brother stayed here for two wonderful nights. The location is prime. We were easily able to hit several state parks for beautiful hikes and enjoy the local community. The kitchen is perfect for a gathering. There's also a great outdoor area which we didn't get to enjoy only because there was still snow out there, but we could see it being a great spot for a summer meal. The house is roomy and clean. The rooms are quiet and views from upstairs are delightful. The hosts are great, with warm correspondence and follow up. I hate to recommend the home, but only because I'd like to keep it a secret. You can't go wrong with this rental.
Lupine Lodge has a beautiful setting, was very clean and plenty comfortable for nine people. However, you can read the accolades from many other happy guests of Rick and Kris but I will diverge and attempt to describe where they triumphed:
The house had a mechanical issue on a Saturday morning. Rick and Kris immediately addressed the issue by calling the repair man. However, it came back and we unfortunately had to cut our weekend short. We talked with Rick and Kris the next morning and they were on their way up to make sure that Lupine Lodge was going to be back in running order as soon as possible. Sometimes things happen; I could tell this wasn't an issue of neglect just bad luck. Rick and Kris did do as much as could be expected and made sure we were taken care of.
Rick and Kris are excellent hosts' and I would highly recommend staying at Lupine Lodge. We will stay again on our next trip to the North Shore.
