About Diane, owner

We live in New Jersey and have been traveling to the Gulf Coast beaches for our recreation and vacations for over 18 years. The boating is fantastic and our time with our family has created a bunch of fond memories for us. Most Florida beaches are overbuilt and congested – it's hard to find a beach with so few people and so underdeveloped. Quite refreshing to say the least. We chose Don Pedro Island (Palm Island) for the natural beauty and 'Old Florida' feel. This chain of islands just may be the last true Florida beach you can walk down (7 miles long) and hardly see another person. We also liked that there are no beach bars and no high-rise buildings. It is the best of Old Florida, natural, unspoiled and a genuine paradise.

Diane, owner purchased this house in 2002

Why Diane, owner chose Palm Island

We decided to purchase a home here for the unspoiled beauty of the island and the area in general. Englewood is a low-key Old Florida 'beach town' that reminds you of how Florida looked many years ago, without the huge high-rise condominiums and massive hotels clogging the beach. There are plenty of local 'home-grown' shops and restaurants and the fishing is some of the best in world. The beaches are fantastic and the boating is world-class. If you are looking for a great family area that is close to everything, but far away from the congestion, traffic and noise, you'd be hard pressed to find a better place. The only way to get on and off the island is by a 3 minute car ferry ride. Having no bridge to the island allows for a semi-private atmosphere and keeps beach going traffic to an absolute minimum. The island is all residential other than the resort area at the north end of Palm Island which offers a quality restaurant, deli and ice cream shoppe and small convenience store. Most all of the island traffic is by golf cart.

What makes this house unique

Staying on the island is not for everyone. If you like lots of places to shop, tourist attractions, beach bars and chain restaurants, this isn't the place for you. On the other hand, if you are looking for uncrowded and unspoiled beaches, great kayaking, fishing and swinging in a hammock under some breezy palms, this may be just the place. It's for a couple or family that wants some serious down-time ... a place to unplug and recharge your batteries and enjoy some great family time. Our house is pet-friendly with wood or tile floors throughout, a private outdoor shower (which is great for pets!) with a huge downstairs entertainment area complete with your own Tiki Bar. You'll also enjoy a private dock overlooking the lagoon and a great screened wrap-around porch. Our landscaping is all Florida native and offers a very private, resort-style environment.

Another great visit to Don Pedro Island thanks to Changes in Attitude

  • 5 of 5

We have vacationed on DPI many times over the past 15 years but this was our first stay at Changes in Attitude and our first time back to DPI after a 3 year hiatus. The wrap-around porch is awesome and the single level layout worked really well for us. The open family room/kitchen/dining area was perfect for us to all hang out together in rare times that we were not on the beach. The deeded beach access is a short 100 steps away and I have stayed in "gulf front" homes that had a longer walk than that to get to the beach. As usual, the beach was nowhere close to crowded, the water was clear and warm and the sunsets were gorgeous. We grabbed an offshore fishing trip with Paradise Charters out of Cape Haze marina and brought back shark, grouper, and snapper in big quantities so I recommend hooking up with Captain Steve early in the week and then dinner will be covered for the rest of the week and still leave you plenty to pack in dry ice and take home. Diane is an awesome owner; she kept in touch, made sure we had all of the info we needed and made sure everything went by the numbers. If we do a repeat visit to DPI in 2018, we will definitely be returning to Changes in Attitude. A couple of things to take note of: the little market that used to be on the island is now a gift shop so, short of beer or wine and snacks that are available at Coconuts, there is no real place to grab emergency supplies so make sure you load up on the mainland, and the mosquitos along the pathway to the beach can be brutal but a small squirt of repellant works fine to keep them at bay, or alternatively, a good cigar seems to work too. I would absolutely recommend Changes in Attitude as a preferred place to stay on DPI, it ticks all of the boxes that matter.

Perfect vacation home!

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week at the "Changes In Attitude" home and it was absolutely wonderful. The home is lovely, very spacious and very clean. The wrap-around porch is screened and allows you to be outside no matter what. All bedrooms have their own sliding glass doors for those who want to get up early or go to bed late and our family has that variety. My Son was up before daylight heading to the dock getting ready to fish. My Sisters went to the beach early to look for shells. As for me I enjoyed the porch and watched the sun come up. Late evenings we enjoyed the Jacuzzi, perfect way to end a beautiful day.

The property owners were always available to answer any question we had. This island and home was one of our best vacations ever. If you need a change in attitude you need to plan a vacation and stay at "Changes in Attitude".

Best place to stay for a fantastic vacation

  • 5 of 5

There is something for everyone here. You can sit on the screened in porch in the morning drink your morning coffee and watch the sun rise over the water. Later you can take a leisurely bike ride through the island or Kayak the waterways, fish the inlet or the gulf, and watch the sunset on the beach. If you love to watch birds the variety is amazing. The home is great and the host and hostess are wonderful. I look forward to another stay at this fantastic place.

relaxing

  • 5 of 5

the house is exactly as described, under the house you have everything you need from the bar hammocks, kayaks, hot tub and shower, there was always cool breeze off the ocean to relax and get out of the sun.the wrap around porch above is great.the lagoon behind the house has plenty of snapper, the ocean surf is great for fishing,(use squid for bait). we had the beach to ourselves. the golf cart was a bonus to get to the resort bar/restaurant, food was good they ran specials for lunch, the little bar was perfect for getting out of the sun.there is plenty of wildlife from turtles, herons, pelicons, etc.you can leave the island and leave your car on the mainland, stop at the lock n key or the moose club if u have membership.about the house, very clean n well stocked.diane was a pleasure to work with, was always available, and very helpful, if your looking for a nice house,a owner that really cares about her property,a place where you can sit on the beach have couple a cold ones fish, watch the dog run around this is it.ok I was trying to find something bad to say about the house, this is it,i had to walk up the stairs to get a can opener for my beer,so if that's a deal breaker then u should not rent this place. uh oh,i did not check behind the bar.

Don Pedro Island is a semi-private island with access via a short 3 minute car ferry, or by private boat. Golf, shopping and restaurants are all nearby with easy access from the ferry landing. The beach is steps from our front door. There is also a restaurant on the island as well as a small convenience store and ice cream shop.
