Front row views of Zihua's beautiful bay

  • 5 of 5

Just spent an entire month at Casa el Conde. The house (and it's staff) exceeded all expectations. Elsa (the owner) took every opportunity to make our trip memorable. We mentioned to staff one evening that we were looking for a "crockpot" to prepare a special dish. The next day we were surprised to find one in the kitchen. Elsa had sent someone down to the market (unbeknownst to us) to pick one up. Over the years we have stayed at several of the homes surrounding Zihua's picturesque bay. Casa el Conde is the top of the food chain. The views, furnishings, bedding are all five star. I can not articulate properly how special this place is. Truly special....

Less than adequate

  • 1 of 5

We encountered many non-working bulbs, fans, room safes, TVs, and spotty internet. Bathrooms aren't air conditioned and 2 bathrooms are outside, meaning you must use toilets, brush teeth, ..., while swatting flies, lizards and other unwanted pests, in high humidity. The pool was cold and nearly unusable because of a broken heater.

Stairs were a big issue. We weren't told about the number of stairs. From street level, you must walk down 31 stairs to the landing level, 17 more stairs to bedroom 1, and 22 and 26 more stairs, respectively, to the other bedrooms. It's 12 stairs from the landing to the dining area. One in our group was handicapped which made walking the stairs painful. Another fell down the ill-lit stairs one night, head first. There are 60 MORE stairs, many without a handrail, from the last bedroom to the jagged rocks 12 feet above the sea. From the rocks to the ocean is treacherous. One of our group got multiple sea urchin stings trying to make the jump from the rocks, which we were assured was completely safe. None of the rest of our even took the chance of walking the jagged rocks.

We were told the staff was new, having replaced the former staff, fired for stealing, making the lack of working safes alarming. Only once in 7-days did the staff lock the front door. The house included a staff of 6; 4 as part of our rental and 2 hired by owner at our expense to cook meals. That none of the 6 spoke English was problematic. The staff was clearly undertrained. We had to constantly ask for things we were told would happen seamlessly, from laundry being done to fungibles such as bottled water, Coke, etc. being replaced to food purchased but never offered. Even the laundry service was poor, with multiple items of clothing ruined because of bleach use on colored items, while other items came back torn.

As to food, we were told certain items would be included in daily menus but promises went by the wayside. Meals were sparse and portions meager. Some of our group developed stomach ailments, likely because of unsanitary food preparation, non-refrigeration and ever-present insects.

Lastly, you might wonder whether we expected too much. A fair question but I suggest for the money spent (nearly $2,000/day plus funds for two food preparers, food and beverages), we should have received a stress-free, nearly flawless, 'dream' vacation. Even at half that price, we would have expected none of the issues described above.

Gorgeous MonteCristo Private Estate "El Conde"

  • 5 of 5

This is probably one of the nicest homes I've ever stayed in. The house is almost like a maze, it's so grandiose and spacious, and not to mention gorgeous. The views, the pool, the staff, the movie room, everything is absolutely stunning. My party and I literally stayed in the pool the whole time looking out into the crystal blue water. (Did I mention they have a 3 tiered infinity pool ?!?!?) You are far enough away from all the tourists' (thank goodness). The palapa, the grand entrance, the kitchen, the grounds, and the VIEWS are to die for. I would recommend renting a yacht one day, they'll pick you up in front of the house by the private beach. Every single attention to detail was spot on. The owner, Elsa, is so so nice and extremely helpful with any and all questions. Probably one of my favorite trips in my life. We would come back in a heart beat....Highly Recommend

Casa el Conde

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at Casa el Conde was beyond our expectations! The photo on the website do not do it justice. The property is beautifully appointed with breath-taking views! Elsa Sale and the staff made our stay a once in a lifetime event. Every request was met and exceeded. Staff was very friendly, attentive and professional. We hired the private chef and a driver during our stay which made our time even more incredible. It was so difficult to leave. We can not wait to go back. We would HIGHLY recommend this property to all. We had friends with us that speak Spanish which is a plus. Thank you Chuck and Elsa for sharing your beautiful home with us!

The most amazing time at Casa El Conde!

  • 5 of 5

Just as the other reviewers have stated...the pictures are beautiful, but once you arrive....you are almost speechless! It's AMAZING!

Driving from the airport, you immediately fall in love with Zihua. It's quaint and quiet, and the day markets are easy-going and each booth has something just a little bit different. We didn't even venture into Xtapa because we loved the vibe of the fishing town so much. Going through the entrance of Casa El Conde is a breathtaking experience. It was a lot of, "This isn't real," and then lots of giggling :) We walked down the stairs and were greeted with the beautiful ladies that treated us like royalty our entire visit. Mama, Gladis, Laura, and Daisy - they are beautiful human beings! Vladi picked us up from the airport, gave us rides into town for quick store trips, and helped with anything and everything we needed around the house. Mama is a sweet soul and you can taste it in her cooking. Gladis, Laura, and Daisy...you couldn't turn around without one of them pointing you to what you needed, grabbing you a cup of tea, making you a drink, quietly cleaning up after you. They were a wonderful staff! As for the actual house, it is inviting yet spectacular. Almost the entire house (aside from the bedrooms, some bathrooms, and the tv room) is outside in the perfect weather and beautiful scenery. The outdoor common area is super comfortable and has an abundance of room for hanging out all together or getting some alone time watching the birds and fishermen with the binoculars or peacefully reading a book. The sunrises from this house are ridiculous. We did that almost every morning and we basically watched the view from the house for HOURS a day! The bedrooms are thoughtfully decorated, the beds are comfy, and the outdoor showers were amazing.

Chuck and Elsa were amazing hosts! They took care of any concern we had leading up to our visit and on our visit, quickly and with generousity.

We will definitely be back!!

Spectacular Property!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay here was remarkable!

Even though the photos do show the drama of its setting, all of our breathes were taken away when we walked through the front gate. This property is stunning! The views are awesome and panoramic. Beautiful and creative architecture---the three tiered pool & spa, the open living/dining/bar/kitchen palapa pavilion, all bedroom suites were large w/ private lounging decks and outdoor showers, separate media room, open air sitting areas, etc. etc. All of this is done in wonderful African artifacts and antiques (very fitting in this setting) from the owners travels and bold Mexican craftsmanship. It is evident the owners take great pride in their home.

The staff is very warm and accommodating. Good thing though one of us speaks Spanish fairly well as communication would have been more difficult. All of them were earnest and eager to please so it was hard to fault them. We hired a cook for our stay and opted to eat more meals in vs. going out to eat. How could we leave such a stunning environment! And the food prepared was delicious especially the Mexican dishes.

The owner Elsa Sale was excellent to work with, very kind and responsive to our questions. It's amazing that they rent this home to guests as it is quite evident that alot of hard work, love, caring and considerable expense went into this dream of a property.

We loved it!
