Overview

About the property

Our little retreat is in the middle of a Charles Dickens like village.

Step back in time in an Arts-and-Crafts style cottage preserved and filled with period antiques, while enjoying the modern amenities of a full kitchen, Cable TV, Bose music docking station, internet service, and comfortable beds. One and 1/2 baths, two bedrooms with queen beds, one with a single bed, the cottage comfortably sleeps 5. A working 1930 refrigerator and a vintage replica electric stove adds to the experience of living in an earlier era.

Relax on a large front porch, chat with passers by, and even nap outdoors on the swinging bed. The neighbors are welcoming and friendly.

You'll relish your daily strolls through the narrow streets under a canopy of monstrous pines and oak trees. You will delight in the architecture and artistic variety with each dwelling you pass.

There are three restaurants and an ice cream parlor within walking distance. The Jigger Shop Ice Cream Parlor has been in operation since 1895.

About Dale & Cheryl Kreider

Cheryl and I grew up in south central Pennsylvania. Both of us enjoyed occasional summer days in Mt Gretna, swimming in the lake, skating at the roller rink, or visiting the Jigger Shop for ice cream. As post high school sweethearts we even dated there once or twice.

During the past 6 or 7 years some friends of ours invited us to stay with them at their Camp Meeting cottage on Art Show weekend. The thought of owning a place of our own was beginning to germinate.

Dale & Cheryl Kreider purchased this cottage in 2011

Why Dale & Cheryl Kreider chose Mount Gretna

As our 35th wedding anniversary was approaching, we decided to begin looking. We immediately fell in love with this particular cottage because it had been kept relatively original in the interior. Though over time, a few modern amenities were added like a 1930 refrigerator and a vintage replica stove, a dish washer, microwave, Bathroom fixtures, etc., the walls of natural bead board have never been covered or painted. The cottage has the look and feel of the time it was built around 1900.

The name 'As You Wish', a line from the movie, 'The Princess Bride', makes it our personalized romantic getaway. Just thirteen miles and yet '100 years' from home, we come here as often as we can.

What makes this cottage unique

We removed all the modern lights and replaced them with antiques, including antique chandeliers in the dining room and two of the bedrooms. Virtually everything on the property is an antique with the exception of two comfortable chairs in the living room, and a flat screen TV hidden away on an articulating arm behind a closed door.

As You Wish is located on a nice street and surrounded by good neighbors on every side. Just a block from the Tabernacle, you can walk to enjoy the summer music festival events, or sit and enjoy them from the porch.

Heated in the winter and air conditioned in summer, you can find peace and solace here at any time of year.

Wonderful stay.

  • 5 of 5

Very much enjoyed our stay at your cottage. The place exceeded our expectations and is unbelievably lovely. Owner's attention to detail is amazing and could not have done a better job furnishing and decorating the place. Very well stocked and towels and linens luxurious. Thank you so much for such a charming stay. Also, walked to La Sorelle for breakfast and it was excellent and had dinner for the first time at The Timbers, and it couldn't have been anymore delicious. Picked up two beautiful bouquets from Mary, the flower lady and shopped at La Cigalle as well.

Charming perfection in a quaint and quiet village

  • 5 of 5

We had the best time. Dale and Cheryl have thought of everything. The kitchen is fully-stocked with everything you could possibly need. I hope you like fine China and vintage crystal. That is what you will be using to sip the wine and eat the cheese that you bring to enjoy the beautiful and relaxing porch, that includes a wonderful swinging bed! But, the kitchen furnishings don't begin to tell you the kind of attention and detail put into this beautiful little cottage. First, the interior looks untouched from Victorian times. Original beaded board, unpainted and oxidized over time to a rich, warm chestnut color, create a feeling of originality and authenticity that is so rare. As they say, "it is only original once." Cheryl and Dale have decorated the entire cottage with period antiques, including a multitude of period light fixtures, making you feel like you are experiencing Mount Gretna as it as intended when built 150 years ago, in the wooded hillside outside of Lebanon, PA. I should also mention the tremendously comfortable beds and the still and quiet of the woods, of a kind rarely experienced. You will sleep here, like you haven't slept in years. In the morning, walk to La Sorrelle for a perfect breakfast, where you help yourself to sticky buns while you wait for your breakfast to be prepared. Hike in the woods. Enjoy the lake. Experience the frenzy of the Timbers (the only uncalming place in all of Mount Gretna). Stay here!! You will not be disappointed. If you are looking for a return to simplicity - talk with your guests and neighbors.- while the night away looking at fireflies and making new friends on the porch... if you take a break from the TV for a night or two (though one is cleverly hidden in the cottage) and want to connect in a different way, you will do it here. Rustic elegance in a friendly community. An authentic experience of a time that has passed... but lives on at this little cottage in Mouby Gretna.

Wonderful Cottage and Porch

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 5 enjoyed staying in "As You Wish" cottage. The cottage is thoughtfully decorated in period pieces and antiques which fit so nicely with the age of the cottage. We loved the comfortable beds; the linens and towels were top notch! Our favorite place to gather was the porch with plenty of seating and we all enjoyed the whimsical porch bed. "As You Wish" comes highly recommended, we had a fabulous stay!

Lovely Cottage

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at your lovely cottage in Mt. Gretna. It was our second time staying there. The first time was a "girls weekend" a few years ago, and this time our family stayed there for a long weekend, while we attended a family gathering in Mt Gretna. The cottage is cozy and beautifully decorated, with vintage antiques and charm! We especially loved sitting on the front porch and the hanging bed. It is so relaxing and peaceful. We would highly recommend this cottage to anyone who wants a peaceful, relaxing getaway!
