Eminence is famous for its love of bluegrass and has been hosting bluegrass festivals and music events for over forty years featuring national, regional and local bands.
This place is the perfect place for antique picking lovers.
7 Friends and I wanted a dark place to watch the Perseid Meteor Shower during it's peak time, August 12 & 13, 2016. We found Hay Hollow Stables' Farmhouse which was more wonderful than we knew. The small gravel parking area was perfect to set up our lounge chairs for late night/early morning stargazing. The farmhouse was immaculately clean, rooms were big, table in kitchen and living room area so plenty of sitting and comfortable for all of us. We watched the Olympics on the TV in the living room. The kitchen had everything you need and there is a washer and dryer. I called Christina when we arrived in Eminence and she was waiting at the farmhouse. She gave us a tour and basically we did not see her or her family during our stay, we had total privacy. They live just up the lane so we saw them coming and going to the barn. I had both her cell and home phone and knew if we needed anything she would respond. Note we had about 4 spiders which are bad this time of year so just be sure to shake out your towels or any clothes left on the floor. Again you are in the country. The AC worked great and house seems well insulated. While stargazing their 2 labs would come down to lay with us or get comfy on the porch. They were very gentle and our protectors. The horses are beautiful. During the rental process I worked with Christina's sister, Mary, who was very kind and prompt in our communications. On driving from town the first time, it seemed like a long drive but afterwards you realize it's easy to come and go. It's just that initial feeling of not knowing where you're going. On directions it is the first small gravel/dirt road to the right after the 500 ton limit low lying concrete bridge. Just keep going until you see the nice barn. The cabin is to the left up on the hill in the trees just before the barn and you turn right like going to the barn but drive past and you will see the farmhouse.
In town, Tim's Bestway grocery store even had organic mixed lettuces, some gluten free box brownie and cake mix, produce and meats looked good. Friends did eat at the Dairy Queen type place and said it was OK. We enjoy the restaurant at Missouri's new state park, Echo Bluff State Park, which is just north of round springs. We also saw some of the wild horses at Round Springs and we floated Jack Forks from Alley Springs down to town. Highly recommend the farmhouse if visiting the area. We won't hesitate to rent again if visiting the area.
Two families stayed at the Farmhouse for 2 nights. Note that the listing includes 2 properties and the listing pictures are primarily for the 3 bedroom property. We were in the 4 bedroom property. We were looking for a place to stay outside St. Louis for a getaway and float trip. This place is a 3 hour drive outside St. Louis. The quaint little town of Eminence is so close to the house and when we had a medical issue, we found it was great to have the town so close by. The manager/owner of the property lives on the acreage and is also your contact for Hay Hollow Stables. We also took advantage of the trail ride offered by Hay Hollow and this was an added bonus of the property. The float outfitter we used came and picked us up at the house and dropped us off afterwards. This was also a convenience/amenity that we very much appreciate about this location. The kids enjoyed petting the horses and the young litter of kittens at the stables. Our party of 8 had a great time and will definitely be considering a return in 2017!
If you are wanting to get away, this is the place to do it. Wind through the National Park, take a dirt road, cross a creek and leave the city life behind! Our kids (ages 2-6) loved playing outside, visiting the horses at the stables, and playing in the creek for hours. We also drove to nearby Round Springs Cave for a fantastic cave tour by lantern. The kids each got to hold their own lantern so they thought that was pretty cool.
The Farmhouse was clean, comfortable, and updated with a vintage look. The kitchen was the best I've ever seen at a rental. Updated and so well stocked - Anything you need for cooking or that you may have forgotten from your own pantry.
The owner and manager are great-friendly and very helpful if you need anything. I would definitely recommend this place!
This cabin is a fabulous place to get away from it all without having to rough it. Located on the side of a hill nestled in the pines, you could sit on the covered deck and just enjoy the quiet. Our party of four went antiquing, canoeing, and horseback riding as well. I would recommend this to anyone for a relaxing enjoyable stay. The manager was very nice and accommodating.
If you are in the beautiful state of Missouri and fancy a taste of Western life without any of the discomforts I would recommend a visit to Hay Hollow Stables. Our party of four stayed in The Cabin, a luxury three bedroom property with fascinating cowboy style decor, but if you're a large family you can rent The Farmhouse. Highlight of our visit was horse riding in the beautiful woods surrounding the pastures on which a herd of Black Angus roamed and I was particularly appreciative of the help and guidance given to a novice horsewoman by Christina who takes out the group of riders and carefully watches over everyone in the party. On another day, fromTwo Rivers Canoe Rental, we went rafting with the swift-flowing current along one of the shallow rivers that make up the beautiful Ozark National Park Riverways, where an eagle dared to fly from tree to tree ahead of us, and later enjoyed browsing among the historic artifacts in an unattended store in the nearby town of Eminence. Definitely a five star experience
My family and I had a wonderful stay at the farmhouse. It was so quiet and peaceful. My son loved chasing the fireflies around at night and splashing in the stream. The family trail ride was worth the cost. There are TONS of things to see and do at the National Parks and the kids loved the trip!
