Country Family and Friends BBQ

  • 4 of 5

The house was a great location for a small weekend gathering to occur. Fully stocked kitchen and was able to pull of a successful BBQ. The two story wrap around porch is amazing. The house is a bit antiquated, which gives it charm but also a musty smell. The pool is more like a concrete pond so swimming was not an option but it actually added to the county feel of the estate- two resident ducks accompanied us- adorable. Hot tub also needs a little work and its temperature reached a high of 100.

Funky, private, beautiful!

  • 4 of 5

This home was perfect for four couples spending a long weekend catching up, socializing, and sharing meals and good times in front of the fire. The decks on all sides of the home, complete with little seating vignettes, a hammock, a hot tub and pool in one yard, and a grill and outdoor dining area make this the complete package. The quiet was lovely, as was the spotty cell reception, which kept us all away from our phones. The two fireplaces in the two sitting rooms were excellent focal points, and the four bedrooms upstairs were comfortable and roomy. The kitchen was well appointed for cooking meals for large groups (though anything too large won't fit in the smallish oven). The proximity to Guerneville (an easy walk) is perfect, as there are many fun little establishments there to explore in any weather. We had a delightful stay and will not hesitate to return.

Sequoia Retreat House

  • 5 of 5

My family (including two small children & a dog) and I had a fabulous weekend at this beautiful house. It's secluded and private, yet close to town. The house is beautifully furnished with all the amenities we could hope for - although we couldn't find any measuring cups or measuring spoons. We took full advantage of the hot tub, the barbecue, eating alfresco, playing board games and the beautiful sound of a breeze blowing through the tall trees. This house is perfect for anyone who wants to escape from the stress of everyday life.

Beware of fleas

  • 1 of 5

How was my stay?... Well, nice initially. If you count the first 12 hours that is. After that--my dog was up, scratching in the crate like crazy. I got up to inspect... There were about 20 or so fleas on her!!! My dog is on monthly (preventative) flea treatment from our vet and has never experienced a flea infestation in her life. I immediately placed her in the bathtub to kill off the fleas as best I could. I have photos and video of them in the tub.... It's disgusting. I then thought best to look elsewhere---and one of these places was the master bed I slept in.... To my surprise--there were also about 3 in the bed!! I, too, have video of these as well. I immediately lacked my belongings and got the hell out of this house. In the later morning--I phoned Russian River rental agency of the occurrence. I asked for a refund for my stay. So far, I'm being advised this may or may not happen and if it does, may take up to a week. I am saving the photos, video as well as my vet bill and my typing skills should this not happen. This was supposed to be a weekend getaway to relax and unplug from my hectic job as a Nurse Executive in San Francisco. I have rented from this company in the past, and will plan to abruptly stop if this isn't rectified. the house is filled with carpet and I can imagine that there are eggs present, awaiting the 21 day hatching period. I'm told that "we are putting glue traps out to see if there are fleas present because we weren't told that there was an issue prior to this". (Well I imagine not if the previous renters were responsible)...we will have to see what the glue traps show in comparison to my video and photographs... Time will tell.
