Hello, we are Troy & Holly Bailey from New Virginia IA. We are transplants from Maryland that moved to this beautiful state in 2006. We dairy farmed in Maryland and moved to Iowa to partake in its more laid back, less crowded atmosphere and get our hands dirty with the rich black soil that covers the state.
Holly Bailey purchased this barn in 2011
We needed a place for family and friends to stay when they came to visit so we turned our barn into a rustic hideaway that we thought others would enjoy too. And they do. The only complaints we get from our guest is that they don't want to leave.
The landscaping is always changing here between a field full of soybeans or corn to the north ,a pergola covered in blooming wisteria, or tulips everywhere in the spring, how about the smells of the lavender that draws the butterflies to its purple luster, the birds always singing a song in the bushes and vines as they make their way to vibrant red birdboxes filled with chirping babies. The trees that shade you on a hot day as you relax in your chaise and catch an afternoon nap. Maybe you all but fell asleep getting a massage outdoors while you take in all these sounds and smells. (we have a massuse that comes and gives massages here at the barn) in the winter you can curl up by the fireplace with your cocoa ,watch the sun rise while you sip your cup of joe, watch the stars twinkle above your head as you gaze out the sky lights ,catch up on movie time, remember what its like to relax and enjoy life.
THANKS SO MUCH FOR THE WONDERFUL BREAKFAST . IT IS SO PEACEFUL HERE AND CALM.IT MAKES FOR A GREAT RETREAT TO RECHARGE!
We were pleasantly blown away by the uniqueness of the barn and how welcoming it made us feel. Very romantic with the claw-foot tub, gas fireplace, and numerous comfortable couches. We felt worlds away from our everyday life. Was close to Indianola and several state parks. This place was a pure breath of fresh air! We will back soon!
We have stayed in the barn 2 years in a row now, and plan to make this a yearly tradition with our family. Thank you for paying such close attention to details to make our stay as comfortable as possible! We can't wait until next year to stay again!
Wow!!! We selected the barn because it was a secluded little place for a romantic getaway, and were blown away by this adorable gem in the country. We were surprised at how close it was to the airport (about 30 mins...easy to get to restaurants, etc) while still giving us the feeling of remoteness we desired.
The decor & design of the barn was simply beautiful. Every detail thought out. The kitchen is fully stocked & ready for meals to be cooked (bringing your own food, of course) & there is plenty of seating for a larger group of 10 or so, including an additional fold-away table.
The hospitality of the owners was outstanding, and they worked with us on specific check-in time needs. We appreciated their hands-off approach, and knew how to quickly reach them should we need something.
A few items of note for those planning to stay (note: none of these are negative, but rather things we feel you might want to know): the final stretch of road to the farm is not paved so vehicles will likely get some dirt on bottom; the water heater is on the smaller side so showers may need to be staggered for groups with more than 2 people; there is no full-length mirror.
We can't wait for the opportunity to return! Many, many thanks to the owners for such a lovely time.
We thoroughly enjoyed staying at Bailey Farms renovated barn. We traveled to Iowa to attend Junk Jubilee Jingles, a vintage show (well worth the trip, by the way - check them out online at http://www.junkjubilee.com/) and found Bailey Farms, which is about 40 minutes south of Des Moines in New Virginia, Iowa. In addition to a full kitchen, two bedrooms and two full baths, amenities included a fireplace, big screen TV, snacks, great decor and a beautifully landscaped outdoor area with a fire pit and pond. It truly felt like home to stay here. The Baileys did a wonderful job of renovating, decorating and landscaping this property. Now that we have stayed here once, we would definitely consider staying her again if we return to Iowa for another Junk Jubilee show, or just to explore other sites in the area, such as the Amana colonies or the bridges of Madison County.
