Hello, we are Troy & Holly Bailey from New Virginia IA. We are transplants from Maryland that moved to this beautiful state in 2006. We dairy farmed in Maryland and moved to Iowa to partake in its more laid back, less crowded atmosphere and get our hands dirty with the rich black soil that covers the state.
Holly Bailey purchased this barn in 2011
We needed a place for family and friends to stay when they came to visit so we turned our barn into a rustic hideaway that we thought others would enjoy too. And they do. The only complaints we get from our guest is that they don't want to leave.
The landscaping is always changing here between a field full of soybeans or corn to the north ,a pergola covered in blooming wisteria, or tulips everywhere in the spring, how about the smells of the lavender that draws the butterflies to its purple luster, the birds always singing a song in the bushes and vines as they make their way to vibrant red birdboxes filled with chirping babies. The trees that shade you on a hot day as you relax in your chaise and catch an afternoon nap. Maybe you all but fell asleep getting a massage outdoors while you take in all these sounds and smells. (we have a massuse that comes and gives massages here at the barn) in the winter you can curl up by the fireplace with your cocoa ,watch the sun rise while you sip your cup of joe, watch the stars twinkle above your head as you gaze out the sky lights ,catch up on movie time, remember what its like to relax and enjoy life.
THANKS SO MUCH FOR THE WONDERFUL BREAKFAST . IT IS SO PEACEFUL HERE AND CALM.IT MAKES FOR A GREAT RETREAT TO RECHARGE!
We thoroughly enjoyed staying at Bailey Farms renovated barn. We traveled to Iowa to attend Junk Jubilee Jingles, a vintage show (well worth the trip, by the way - check them out online at http://www.junkjubilee.com/) and found Bailey Farms, which is about 40 minutes south of Des Moines in New Virginia, Iowa. In addition to a full kitchen, two bedrooms and two full baths, amenities included a fireplace, big screen TV, snacks, great decor and a beautifully landscaped outdoor area with a fire pit and pond. It truly felt like home to stay here. The Baileys did a wonderful job of renovating, decorating and landscaping this property. Now that we have stayed here once, we would definitely consider staying her again if we return to Iowa for another Junk Jubilee show, or just to explore other sites in the area, such as the Amana colonies or the bridges of Madison County.
Had a wonderful time reuniting with high school friends. The barn is decorated beautifully and the weather allowed us to have dinner the first night under the pergola and breakfast the next morning there as well. We grilled out for one of our meals and now my husband has grill envy. The fire pit was great and we loved talking under the stars. We visited two wineries that were close by and also toured the cute town of Winterset. Could not have asked for a better weekend and a better place to stay.
My family and I stayed at Bailey Farms Bed & Breakfast for one night last weekend. This place is gorgeous, warm, inviting, well maintained, beautifully decorated, and has all the little details and essentials that you could ever ask for. The outside grounds is beautiful as well and has a pond, pergola with plenty of seating, as well as a fire pit. Had we known it was going to be this beautiful, we would have gotten there earlier in order to enjoy it longer. The only hiccup we ran into was not bringing snacks, milk, or drinks. We had to drive approx. 20 miles back into town to get these things. So my suggestion would be to bring these things if you plan on eating anything in the evening or having cereal in the morning. There is popcorn available to eat when relaxing by the fireplace while watching TV and there is cereal, snack bars, oatmeal, pancake mix, coffee (creamer and sugar), etc. for breakfast...but no milk or juice, so you would want to grab some before getting there (although Holly did suggest bringing milk). I would consider this an Inn, rather than a bed and breakfast, but either way, we all LOVED it and didn't want to leave. I will definitely be staying there again but for more than just one night. If you plan on staying, I understand they fill up quickly, so you would want to reserve ASAP so you don't miss out on this beautiful "barn".
Bailey Farms' guest barn was just what us girls needed for a weekend getaway! The property is charming and well cared for. The barn is truly perfect....cozy, clean and guest-friendly. Wifi is offered, but I promise you won't use it! My childhood girlfriends and I spent our time gabbing, playing silly games, swapping magazines and eating snacks. It was perfect! The only thing lacking was that we should have stayed an extra day :-) Thanks, Holly!
