About tracee

I am the great granddaughter of Gus and Anna Spitzmiller who settled here in the late 1800's. Gus came to this area to mine Silver at Lulu City with others like the famous Squeeky Bob Wheeler. He eventually settled down and brought his wife Anna to Grand Lake and became the first Master Plumber in Grand County. Anna had the first indoor running water in the County. My grandmother, Barbara Lorens married Gordon Spitzmiller (Gus's son) and they joined their plumbing business with grandma's dairy farm--on what is now Shadow Mtn. Lake. Eventually Shadow Mtn Reservoir was made, and so, we have property all along the river to the lake.

tracee purchased this cabin in 1940

Why tracee chose Rocky Mountain National Park

This is one of 3 cabins, plus a family home, I own in Grand Lake. This is the 1 bedroom, and is the smallest of the units, but still about 900 sq feet. All my cabins are BIG. It has been fully renovated on the inside, and many find it so cozy and romantic that they call it the 'Love Shack'. We also have a 2/1 vrbo # 454309, and a 3/1 Homeaway # 3564480. Or if you have a big group and want to splurge, you can rent our family home, vrbo # 490482.

What makes this cabin unique

Very private and gorgeous property with easy access on and off the main road and only 2 miles to the village of Grand lake. You can canoe in the wildlife area from our meadow ( as the whole property is surrounded on 3-sides by the Colo. river) in the Summer or snowmobile right across the lake to town and the trails in the Winter.

Guestbook comments from the owner

My family and I were on a cross-country road trip, and we decided to spend a couple of nights in Grand Lake. The cabin was decorated nicely. The bathroom was clean and recently renovated. The fireplace and wall heaters kept the cabin very warm, even though it was cold outside. There was plenty of firewood. The property is amazing! The cabin is located very close to town and the entrance to the National Park. I would recommend this cabin, or any other on the property,to my friends and family, over and over again. Tracee, the owner, was incredible. She treated us like family and was very accomodating. I cannot imagine a better place to stay in Grand Lake.

I will most certainly be back. I will spread the word to all my colleagues and friends traveling from Florida.

Beautiful

  • 5 of 5

This was my second time renting from Tracee and the smaller cabin was perfect! This time I was fortunate enough to look out the cabin window and see a bear!!! If I would have opened the door I could have touched him.....very beautiful and humbling! I will definitely be back as the location is close to Rocky Mtn National Park, Hot Springs, fly fishing river out your front door, horse back riding and mountain biking at Winter Park! Not to mention the free canoes, kayaks, and firewood! Thanks Tracee!

Very Beautiful Cabin Experience

  • 5 of 5

Huge shout out to Catie. She does a great job onsite to keep guests feel welcome. Clean, comfortable beds, and an overall cozy experience. The stay was awesome. The views are great and this family owned ranch has an awesome location just off shadow mountain lake. The many times i have been to the grand lake area, i never even knew this awesome place was here. Just off the road these cabins are perfectly hidden. We all highly enjoyed the experience this place has to offer. Right location, right experience and at the right price. Thank you to the Lorens family for sharing this beautiful place with us.

Free Canoes and Kayaks To See Lake

Beautiful New Bathroom

Great View and Good Location

Saw the Moose

Very Nice Sitting Area Outside

The Negatives:

Cannot Open Windows Outside Window Is Sealed - Little Ventilation

Close to Road, but Not Much of a Problem, Little Noise At Night

Low Ceilings - 6 Foot, Be We Are Short, So Not a Problem

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. I'll check and see why that window wouldn't open for you. Yes, the ceilings are low. It was originally built 75 years ago. I renovated and added travertine bath and seamless glass shower and hardwood floors and new carpet and appliances, but I couldn't do anything about the low ceiling. It's actually 8 feet. We hope to see you again soon. Tracee/owner

Perfect honeymoon getaway

  • 5 of 5

This place was perfect to get away and relax after the wedding. It is the perfect size for the two of us and we were able to have fires almost every night with the mountains in site. There where other cabins around, but we didn't even notice them or the people. We will definitely go back.

Super clean cabin!

  • 5 of 5

Did not expect it to be so close to the highway, and water pressure in shower was extremely low. But, impressed with how clean the interior of the cabin was.

Owner's Response: Thank you. Low water pressure is unusual. I'll check that out right away. Tracee/owner

Tiny, affordable, and great!

  • 4 of 5

My son and I stayed here on a Father-Son trip we took this Summer. This house is super tiny, we kept hitting our heads on door frames (we're both over 6 feet tall); but it had exactly what we needed to enjoy our week at Grand Lake. The kitchen is great, the view out the bedroom window is fabulous, and the location is perfect for easy access to RMNP and Grand Lake.

We'd totally stay again if we were in the area!

Owner's Response: Yes, the ceilings are a bit low. But the cabin itself is about 900 sq. ft. Thanks for the review and we hope to see you the next time you are in our area. BTW--all the rest of our cabins have high ceilings--this is our smallest unit. Tracee
