Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday cottage in Longboat Key - Historic Cottage

Historic 1885 Cottage On A Barrier Island Off The Coast Of Sarasota, Fl.

This is a 2 bedroom/1 bath funky cottage located in the heart of Longboat Village across from the world famous beach and within walking distance to a public dock for fishing, restaurants and local bar. This unique place is not for those who need a high-end condo vacation. Rather, a couple or family who enjoys 'old florida' rustic living in an old cottage with the original wood floors and stone fireplace. It is an affordable way to enjoy the warm gulf waters and local beach community. It is fully furnished with older but very comfortable and clean items; new beds, all linens and utilities, kitchen supplies and television with cable. It is a simple, rustic and fun way to enjoy Florida. Come on down!

About Danielle Green

I bought this old cottage as a way to save a bit of old Florida from the wrecking ball back in 2005, as I love the charm of Florida now rarely found.

Danielle Green purchased this cottage in 2005

Why Danielle Green chose Florida South Central Gulf Coast

I live on the island and have enjoyed sharing this old cottage with those who enjoy having a fishing/beach shack for a short or long term visit.

What makes this cottage unique

I really enjoy this part of the island, as it is the last stretch of the island free of condos and oversized homes. The location could not be more ideal and the salt air and pounding gulf fill the night air. Peacocks roam the street freely and seagulls fill the morning sky.

Loved The Cottage

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I along with our teenaged daughter stayed at the cottage for a week and loved it. The cottage reminded us of some of the old family lake cabins we have stayed at in Minnesota. Although the cottage is old it is very clean and has been well maintained and loved over the years. We enjoyed sitting on the covered porch when it rained and just taking in the cozy feel of the whole cottage and neighborhood. We also enjoyed walking around the neighborhood and seeing the array of homes. The location was perfect, a two block walk to a beautiful and quiet beach, two blocks to a wonderful restaurant and a couple of minutes to drive to Conquina Beach. Longboat is quiet and laid back which we enjoyed whereas Anna Maria and Siesta Key are much more busy and packed with visitors.

Danielle was wonderful to work with. She was always very quick to respond to emails and any questions we had. We would stay here again without hesitation. If you expect a cottage that is ready for a HGTV episode this won't be the place for you. If you are like us and enjoy a more simple and rustic getaway then you will appreciate this lovely little cottage in a beautiful and historic neighborhood.

Lovely Cottage

  • 5 of 5

I spent a few days at this lovely little cottage with my family and we adored it! It is in a great location for sight-seeing around Longboat, Anna Maria, Sarasota and Bradenton. The beach is just a few minutes away and there are some nice restaurants just down the street. The cottage is perfect for traveling with families or a small group. One bathroom and two bedrooms. Everything was spotless when we arrived and the owner was wonderful. She recommended places see and was very helpful with any other concerns we had. I highly recommend this historic cottage. It was such a wonderful experience, and I hope to return someday in the future!

Funky place!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I had such a fun time at this cottage! The owner was very nice and very helpful with anything we needed. The neighborhood is really wonderful with two restaurants at the end of the road, and a short walk to the beach across the street. There are peacocks everywhere, which can be very fun if you don't get to see these beautiful birds that often. The cottage itself is very funky and old. If you are into that kind of thing, this is the place for you! There are two bedrooms which is nice if you have kids or are traveling with a small group (about 4 people). The location is great because the bridge to Coquina Beach and Bradenton is very close to the cottage. I would love to visit again!

Longboat Key Historical Cottage

  • 3 of 5

First off, I do not want this review to be taken the wrong way by the owner. She seemed to be a very pleasant person, even though we did not meet. The cottage was roomy, had a great location in a very nice neighborhood. It was only about .2 mile walk to one of Florida's most pristine beaches. We had a good time. I want the negative things I have to say to be taken as nothing more than friendly advice. The owner knew we were arriving 2 weeks before check in date. There was no key for us to be able to lock the doors when we went out. The place was not what I consider to be very clean. Dead insects on the window sills, cobwebs all over the front porch and dust on the wood work. There was no handle to the stove and no way to close the faux blinds. We had to open and close the blinds in the evening by hand. It was very tedious work. The dishwasher could not be used, because if you tried to open it the whole unit would fall out. The TV set was probably a 19 or 20" set. I haven't seen one that small for many years. It did not come with a DVD player, which comes in handy if you have children with you. This may all sound nit- picky, especially if you consider the price for a week, but even people that can't afford the posh and more expensive rentals, still appreciate the little things that make you feel like you're staying in a nice place for a great price. Everything negative about the rental would not cost more than $1,000 dollars to remedy, which to me is a small price to pay to make your guest more satisfied and to keep them returning. Like I said, we enjoyed the stay, the little things just became annoying. Who wants to feel annoyed when you're on vacation. Am I right?

This is a 120 year old funky cottage. It is comfortable, but not right for a high end vacation. It is perfect for the family with kids and a dog, wanting to hang out at the beach; or, a fishing trip with the guys. It has it original old wood floors, old plumbing, backyard for hanging out and by the beach. People either love it (the two tenants asked to buy it) , but if you are a condo person, it won't be your cup of tea. It is a few steps up from camping. Kids, beach bums, families on a budget and campers love it.
