Semi-retired and currently owner/operators of The Sterling, a bed and breakfast in Lake City. Many guests have indicated they would love to come back to Lake City and bring their family, girlfriends, buddies, etc so starting another venture with a vacation rental seemed like a great idea. We love people and this fabulous part of southeast Minnesota with all its beauty. We do our best to make everyone feel at home and appreciated at our B & B and now we can expand that to include a darling vacation rental for larger groups. River towns have such appeal! Leaving the corporate life to start a new project in Lake City drew us here three years ago. We love it here and know you will too once you have stayed.
Suzie Spain purchased this house in 2013
This vacation rental house has such curb appeal with its charming front porch with wicker seating. We have added a wonderful, large deck on the back of the house which is perfect for enjoying the shade on a warm summer day. It is a super location with only a block walk to the park on the Lake. It is also close to downtown and all that it offers our guests. The house is a nice size - not too big and not too small. I guess you could say it is 'just right'. The outside view fools you into thinking it is on the small size but once inside, people often comment how much room there is. It is a house where it is easy to 'settle in' and feel at ease quickly.
Older homes have a charm and personality all their own. Combine that with modern amenities and you have the best of both worlds! A trip to 'grandma's house' where you can still use your computer, watch DVD movies, pop popcorn in a microwave, put your dirty dishes in a dishwasher and have a shower with lots of hot water while still having access to many sport opportunities and tourist activities.
The Nest was the perfect setting for our three generations to gather, coming from Iowa and two communities in Minnesota. All nine of us comfortably gathered, ate, and slept here. The kitchen and bathrooms were well appointed and the outdoor spaces were inviting as well. The location was very convenient for hiking and biking, exploring local shops, the winery and the brewery, and an excursion to The National Eagle Center. We appreciated the off-street parking in this lovely residential neighborhood. Most of all, we appreciated the hospitality of Suzie and Dave who were gracious and accommodating above and beyond our expectations. We highly recommend The Nest!
Our AWE group of 10 women (middle aged!) enjoyed the home and had everything we needed. I agree with all the positive reviews below! Thanks Suzie for providing us with a wonderful gathering spot
My girlfriends and I were so pleased to be able to stay at the Nest - we were surprised to find a place that had enough beds for us all, in a quaint town, at an affordable price, in a home we would all drool over!! We found all of that and more for our weekend getaway! The pictures simply don't do it justice - it is much larger than it seems, with new appliances and cozy touches. We loved the little "nooks" in each room for our luggage, the upstairs half bath, the large dining table, and new plush large couch in the living room. We would absolutely love to stay here again soon! Highly recommended!
We loved our stay at The Nest. Suzie was so warm and welcoming and we felt like we had all the information we needed before we even arrived. The home is very clean, with comfy furniture and great beds and linens. The location is perfect within a short walk to the cute downtown shops and the lake/river front. The sitting areas attached to each room are just adorable. The deck has a great view of the lake and we wished we had time to use the handy firepit. Quiet street. Really, just perfect. Several in our group have plans to look into a stay with their families and we will be back as a group next spring!
Our wk.end at The Nest was so much fun! The house was clean and neat and stocked with everything we needed to make our girl's gathering an amazing success!
The Nest provided a perfect setting for a long-weekend family vacation. We had six adults and two toddlers with us and were more than comfortable in the home. The three bedrooms were all spacious and the extra sitting rooms off each bedroom were perfect as sleeping rooms for the toddlers. The dining room table was big enough for all eight of us to sit around comfortably and the three bathrooms were nice, clean, and thoughtfully equipped with cubbies and baskets for holding personal belongings. The whole house was very nicely decorated with thoughtful touches that made us feel right at home. The location provided a good starting point for several adventures, including just walking from the house to downtown Lake City and the marina and riverfront and driving to the nearby state and city parks. We also spent one morning doing the circle tour around Lake Pepin (beautiful!) and another morning on an excursion to LARK Toys and the National Eagle Center. I'd highly recommend this for anyone looking for a fun and relaxing get-away!
Located in the beautiful bluff area of southeastern Minnesota and perched on the west side of Lake Pepin, Lake City is a wonderful get away spot summer and winter. Quaint shops, lovely driving routes and hiking trails. Bicycle rides take you through breathtaking vistas and up challenging hills if you are up to the workout. Fish Lake Pepin from the shore, or golf away your afternoon. Antique stores beckon you to browse, looking for a treasure. Take a short drive to Red Wing to investigate the historic town and its offerings or go south abit to Wabasha to visit the National Eagle center. Of course, you can spend your time simply relaxing - walking the beach or watching the sailboats - the choice is yours!
