Overview

About the property

Three bedroom, 2 and half bath and located in a rural area.

The Dutch Barn is located about 2 miles East of Middleburg on a quiet country lane off State RT 50 and in the heart of Virginia's hunt country. The previous owner developed and used it as a small horse breeding operation and there are now 6 indoor stalls (of which 4 are available to guests, including an indoor wash station), a run-in shed, paddock, exercise ring and riding area. It is an excellent place to bring your horse(s) as there is plenty of opportunity to ride on the property, the scenic rural road and beyond.

The family owned farm house is connected to the stables, covers about 3,000 square feet of living space including 3 bedrooms, a great room including living, dining and kitchen, TV room, exercise room, and a reading room. All are tastefully decorated with a worldwide collection of antiques, arts and crafts. There are 2 full bathrooms, one having an indoor Jaccuzzi bathtub as well as a half bath in the reading room. All rooms are comfortably outfitted with plenty of closet space. There are quality linens and towels and everything is neat and clean. A large deck with a 6 person's spa (open from spring into fall) overlooks the Bull Run Mountains. At the bottom of the property is a farm pond with a swing bench. There is lots of open space to feel relaxed and it is all quiet and restful. There also is plenty of parking space, including for horse trailers.

The town of Middleburg is very charming to explore. The town itself has some renowned restaurants including Red Fox Inn, The French Hound and Julien's, the world class Salamander Resort and Spa, several boutiques, antique stores and a Safeway supermarket. Also the National Sporting Library is here and worth a visit. Within a mile distance you will find a Polo field and a high end horse riding facility and historic Aldie Mill and Oatlands are nearby. Many trips can be made to explore the hilly rustic country side with lots of beautiful properties where horses are kept. Other attractions are the many wineries, the State Arboretum of Virginia, the Skyline drive, Blue Ridge Mountains, and Luray Caverns.

Washington D.C. is about 45 miles away and Dulles International Airport about 20 miles or less than half an hour drive. Part of the Smithonian Air and Space Museum (Udvar-Hazy Center) showing the larger planes and space vehicles (including space shuttle Discovery), is located near the airport.

All in all enough to do and see to make this property your home away from home.

Lovely property and house in horse country.

  • 5 of 5

Our family gathered for a reunion at the Dutch Barn. Everything was in order and clean in the house, the view from the deck just beautiful and the owners nearby in case we had questions.

Would definitely rent again if in the area.

Welcoming home, beautiful grounds, gracious hosts

  • 5 of 5

Our whole family thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Dutch Barn - the house is beautifully appointed and laid out, and includes an international flair with many collected pieces from world travels as well as original paintings.

Ina and Jan are wonderful hosts: they got back to us immediately on all questions, helped us accommodate arrival and departure times, showed us everything, and made sure we had all we needed throughout our stay.

The grounds of the property are spacious and charming, beautifully set in the rolling hills of the Virginia countryside - our kids and dog loved roaming around. The adults enjoyed the serenity of the setting. All (two-legged) of us loved relaxing in the hot tub after a day of excursions!

The proximity to Middleburg, many horse farms, parkland and vineyards is perfect to explore and enjoy your VA stay!

Clean, quiet, and well equipped

  • 5 of 5

Jan and Ina provided a wonderfully spacious and clean house stocked with all needed items in the kitchen, bedrooms, and bathrooms as well as plenty of firewood for the cold nights. The dogs loved the big fields and it is a great location to town for all excursions. If we return to Middleburg we will check for vacancy here first!

We Always Love Our Vists to The Dutch Barn

  • 5 of 5

This was our fifth vacation at The Dutch Barn-and each visit has been better than the last!

The setting and immediate surroundings are lovely, peaceful, and perfect for either a lot of activities -or quiet relaxation. If I still had a horse to bring, the setup there would be perfect for an equine companion. As it is, the interior of the home, and all of its amenities are perfect for many types of human companions as well! We enjoy all that the house has to offer, including the gracious hospitality of the owners. Jan and Ina are so very thoughtful, it allows us to feel at truly at home every time we are there -despite the fact that we are just visitors.

We have made a short trip to Middleburg our holiday tradition since 2008, however, since finding the Dutch Barn we have turned our tradition into a holiday vacation !!

The town is close, and has whatever you might need or want including excellent restaurants. The surrounding towns and restaurants can keep you busy for days! The history of the region is fun to explore, as is the Shenandoah area.

The trip to DC is close enough to make it fun, and the actual city and all of the traffic is far enough away to be no problem at all

I could add many more paragraphs to our glowing review of The Dutch Barn, but suffice it to say- we recommend it 200% to any and all of you who are considering a stay with the kind owners of this fabulous home!

Sincerely

Margaret & John

The property was very cozy and very well kept. There were wonderful little touches that were very thoughtful all over the property. I went with 2 friends for a weekend getaway but am considering returning with my family. The owners were lovely and very considerate.
