Lennart Hiemstra purchased this House Boat in 2009
Why Lennart Hiemstra chose Westerpark
Me and my wife always dreamed of living on a houseboat in Amsterdam. The dream came true in 2009 when we moved in. It is a wonderfull experience. Right in the middle of the city, without the crampyness of an apartment. The water view is just lovely. It really is nature in the city
What makes this House Boat unique
Watching boats pass by. Waking up with the sound of a flock of hungry geese knocking on your window. Feeding hand tame swans by hand from the breakfast table. Lounging on the sofa on a cold stormy winternight and enjoying the heat and comfort inside. Playing loud music and not worrying about the neighbours ;-)

a lovely syay
very close to everything and a quirky way to stay on a house boat
An attractive and fun place to stay.
Clean, comfortable, well-maintained, focused on the renter. Good location, adequate furnishings and good appliances. Would rent it again.
Quaint, Comfy and Conveniently located
Great location for walking to many nearby shops and restaurants. Perfect for three adults. Nice kitchenette and living room which you’d never get at a hotel. Large windows let in a lot of light and swans, ducks, geese and other water foul great you each morning. When we come back to Amsteardam this is definitely where we will stay.
The houseboat is very clean and charming. It's centrally located, very close to some great restaurants and bars. Check in/out was very easy. We really enjoyed feeding the ducks and swans who came to the windows. Such a pleasant and unique place to stay. I would highly recommend this houseboat!
Fantastic place to stay - highly recommend!
Lennart was a very gracious and accommodating host, and the houseboat is very clean, in a fantastic location, and has everything you would need for a normal stay. Lennart makes sure you feel right at home and is quick to respond to any messages. A great overall stay!
Thank you Jordan for your great review.
You are a honest & wonderful guest and I hope to welcome you again.
Great location, lots of room, could use some freshening up
The location is wonderful...a quiet neighbourhood within 20-30 minutes of the city centre by foot..and the boat is roomy, which should provide for a comfortable stay in this amazing city. We were met for a 5 minute exchange of keys along with a warning not to open the door for anyone and although we would have appreciated a bit of information about the neighbourhood, we heard nothing from the owner or his rep during our stay. It is pretty basic accomodation, which would be vastly improved with a good cleaning of the bathroom (the shower curtain and floors were dirty and the tub doesn’t drain) some new towels and updated bed linens & pillows. There is a very strong musty odour in the houseboat, especially around the bathroom, although maybe this is to be expected of a water based home? We did find several very good restaurants nearby and a grocery store to purchase the basics like tea and coffee, which were not provided. Overall, we enjoyed having the extra space over the average hotel room and it was fun to “live” on the water for a few days. With a bit of TLC, this accommodation could be a much improved experience.
Great that you had a good time at our super houseboat.
Funny to read some weird and false responses afterwards while during your stay you told us everything is sooo fantastic. The houseboat is great and really clean, unique and like a villa on the water.
We always take the time to provide any help that is needed before or during a stay & there is info on board. We also want our guests to be safe so we always give them a heads up.
We did not mind waiting for your very late arrival or extra request during your stay but reading false statements because you could not get a check-out at 15.00 is really low.
Before your arrival we updated the houseboat with a new smoke alarm system, new lights, new custom made shutters, new bedlinnen , towel and pillows and also the shower curtain is new... so this is really a joke to read this nonsense. I hope the next landlord will be cautious and aware of this.
My Amsterdam houseboat is located just next to the Jordaan area. Within a couple of hundred yards you will find 5 great coffee bars, 7 restaurants and numerous bars.
When you cross the canal you enter the Jordaan. The Jordaan is one of the most sought after areas of Amsterdam. It hosts dozens of boutique clothing stores. It also caters the very best italian restaurants is a small subsection of the Jordaan. Jordaan is famous for it's small narrow streets where the working people of Amsterdam used to live
Both the streets around the houseboat as the Jordaan area are safe areas to explore. You can walk here any time of day without any trouble. Of course, Amsterdam is still a city as any other, but street crime is very low in general, and these areas in specific.
