Steve and Laura Tkach
About Steve and Laura Tkach
Steve & Laura have lived in Colorado since 1986. We came for the mountains, the climate, and the adventures of the west. We have enjoyed hiking, hut-to-hut skiing, backpacking, rafting, down hill skiing, x-country skiing, climbing 14 teeners, thermal hot springs, biking, mountain vistas, fall color changes, thunderstorms and lightening strikes, deep peaceful snows, peach festivals, chocolate festivals, beer festivals, concerts, and more.
Steve and Laura Tkach purchased this Condo in 1996
Why Steve and Laura Tkach chose Leadville
Steve & Laura purchased the home in 1996 so our newborn son would have a place to create a lifetime of childhood adventures. It's a place where we could enjoy the outdoors without crowds and build memories with friends and family.

Check way early. Fire place didn’t work
Would stay there again. We stay at The lodge at vail five times a year so we are real fussy. It was nice Good job.
Great little Stay in a Great Location
The property is nestled in the woods just outside of town. Great for the adventurist who plans to participate in outdoor activities but also wants to be relatively close to town.
Had a misfortunate event with the shelf rails on the Refrigerator door. They just fell off when we put condiments and milk on them. Seemed that maybe a previous renter had broken them and rigged them to stay on as the clips were totally broken. Not sure what we would’ve done to break them off by simply putting condiments and milk on the shelf. In any case, we let the owners know they were broken by laying the shelf parts on the fridge as not to perpetuate the problem to the next renter.
The owner charged a fair price for the damage so we didn’t feel like arguing the cause of the damage and were fine paying for the fix for future renters not to have to deal with it like we had to.
The furniture was comfortable and felt like a home away from home.
Place was great. Clean, quiet and big enough for our group. Hiked up Mt Elbert while there - would recommend
Really nice place to stay.
This is a really nice property / community. The condo was very clean and comfortable. It is well appointed and conveniently located. The property owners were very nice and responsive about communicating with us about the property and the parking (we have trucks with ATV trailers). We really enjoyed our stay.
Had a couple issues
Property was awesome and as advertised, but my daughter took a heck of a spill when the swing chain broke from wear, and there was a black widow spider in the living room. Also we had to open the windows multiple times because even though the heat was set on 65, it kept heating up to 75 on the main floor, also the oven was very dirty so the house was filled in smoke after heating. Great location, and great space!!
Sorry to hear about the swing breaking. I hope your daughter is OK. I too once landed on my back when a rope swing broke. It knocked the wind out of me. If you didn’t report it to Grand West resort, I forwarded your comments to them. They are the same people who manage the HOA common property.
As for the heat/cooling, there is no air conditioning in the unit and that’s pretty typical for that elevation. That’s why the temperature did’t drop in the evening.
First I’ve heard of a Black Widow Spider in Leadville. I see that the eastern limit of the western black widows seems to roughly follow the continental divide. Long term resident and our cleaner was also surprised to hear of it. She did comment that there are black house spiders.
We’ll be addressing the oven cleaning soon.
Thanks for the feedback.
Beautiful cabin, beautiful outdoors!
We had everything we needed from cooking and dinnerware to bathing essentials to warm comfy beds. The deck was perfectly set to enjoy a gorgeous mountain setting. Just a short drive to Leadvillle and Ski Cooper, Top of the Rockies zip line and snowmobiling. We loved that everything was so close but we felt like we were in a mountain cabin away from it all. Kudos to the property owners for making us feel at home! Thank you!
