Beautiful, colorful, surfer's getaway house. Comfortable - with several areas for sitting and hanging out - each bedroom has air conditioning and comfortable beds. The house has wifi and cable TV. Great view of the beach and river- spectacular Pacific Sunsets most of the year. Property has dozens of coconut palms; walk out the back to the riverbank and the beach - a few feet to the right to a great sandy beach (Sunzal) or to the left to the best surf in El Salvador. Walk to Kayu for surfing lessons, or a little further East to El Tunco. The house has a well stocked kitchen, linens and towels. Outdoor barbecue and shower next to the pool, a large covered sitting area with a pingpong table, amazing views of the ocean and sunsets from the upstairs, and extra parking inside the property! This house is FUN and beautiful.
The house is a 7 minute drive to the Port of La Libertad, where there are two modern Super Selectos grocery stores, and an awesome pier with freshly caught fish and seafood daily. Stroll down the Malecon or sit at one of the several good outdoor restaurant with a cold beer.
Extra services: Daily cleaning service is included with the house. Cooking, cleaning, shopping, driver and laundry can be arranged by owner.
You can also order delicious Salvadorean food daily from Mati at the Restaurante El Sunzalito on the main road and she will have it delivered. The ladies at the little tortilla stand at the turnoff of the road make fantastic pupusas for additional fee per dozen and fresh tortillas are 6 for a quarter.
I am Salvadorean-American and live in San Francisco, CA. Like many Salvadoreans, my family is spread all around the world, and this house is the spot where we all come back to -to see each other and our beautiful home country. I employ folks from the community and pay them a living wage.
Myrna Melgar purchased this house in 2013
Because it's awesome! The location is fantastic and everyone has fun - young, old - the Salvadoreans, the Americans, the Europeans in the family - the elders, the teenagers and the babies
There is nothing like swinging in the hammock by the pool under the coconut trees with a cold Pilsner beer in your hand!
We spent more than two months in Casa Sunzal in El Salvador with our daughters who are 5 and 1 year old. The house is fantastic for a family and has all the amenities that we needed to have a great vacation for the whole family. The house even has a swing for the kids.
The location is very good in a quiet, safe and secure area. Yet is very close to all the action in El Tunco. We found a lot of very nice restaurants, both cheap and more pricy, very close to the house.
Just outside the house there is a fantastic beach which we had almost to ourselves. When there were large waves kids could still swim in the clean and calm river.
The local staff, Chepe, Marta and their family were absolutely amazing and helped us with everything we needed. The pool in the house had always crystal clear water, the house was clean and cozy. Chepe and Marta know everyone and everything around Sunzal and helped us with small and big things during our stay. They allowed us to relax and feel safe in El Salvador. Their daughters were also babysitters when we wanted to surf or do yoga.
There are always waves in Sunzal and the waves are absolutely world class. It is the perfect place to learn how to surf and good instructors to help you get started. Our five year old daughter could also begin to learn how to surf.
Myrna was always available by phone or internet to answer all our questions promptly.
We loved Casa Sunzal and will return as soon as we get the opportunity. We really recommend the house to families with children who are looking for an experience beyond the ordinary.
We planned this vacation well in advance. Mirna has been with us each step of the way, always able and willing to answer each question no matter how silly.
Casa Sunzal was chosen because it looked amazing in pictures and it didn't disappoint. My sister in law (that shared accommodations with us) had very fond childhood memories of the place and the neighborhood from back in the 70's, 80's cause they use to vacation in a house nearby, closer to the road by the Sunzal Bridge.
Anyways, the time was full of morning and afternoon walks of very nice conversations with my family, they had very nice memories of the place and being there was a treat for them. I am Mexican and it was my first time being in such a beautiful coastal, peaceful side of El Salvador for so many days and I loved it!
Overall, El Salvador is a very small country but with so much diversity that you will love each stay there. On this trip we went to Ruta de Las Flores (Apaneca, Juayua, Ataco, Nahuizalco, Coatepeque Lake, Sonsonate, etc) for 5 days before arriving to Mirna's house. Once we arrived at Casa Sunzal, nobody wanted to leave the place! There is so much to do nearby! Planning for a day trip was so easy, because reaching San Salvador or other sides of the country is very easy. We even made a short trip to Perquin (closer to Honduras) while there.
The house faces the ocean and the estero , the 'yellow door' to exit to the estero and beach makes very charming pictures! Especially on Sunset, make sure to take a photo in there at the break of sunset one of the days of your stay if you go there.
My favorite part of the house was the second floor and it's views of the river ending in the ocean, both in the morning and during Sunset. Place is clean, peaceful, safe. All of Puerto La Libertad, Tunco, Tamanique, Sunzal, San Blas, Mahahual, etc. If you go there, just a few days won't be enough. Take a few weeks!
We went to el Tunco both by walking through the rocks (very safe, just take appropriate shoes) or by driving. El Tunco Beach is full of life, places to eat, and surfers!
Sunzal Beach (right next to the house) was the favorite for morning and sunset walks because is semi-private (not too many people go there). It makes it the perfect get-away! The ocean is at times very 'picado' (be careful) but at times very peaceful and safe, I guess that depends on the current and to Moon's mood (as my mom would say :D).
You owe it to yourself to try this house, won't disappoint.
Thank you Myrna for the wonderful place you shared with my family and friends, we had a great time by the pool with ice cold coconuts and great pupusas just outside the property, don Romeo and family were very kind to order some since we arrived quite late and he when out of his way to place the order before they closed.
Just a few cosmetic things to overlook; water sink faucet was leaking and needs to be fix to save water, it rain so hard the water was filtering thru the roof that we put some bowls (just like old time when I was growing up)😁. Tiles on the pool where coming off, also in the kichen sink. Overall the house is amazing and very enjoyable and inviting. Thank you again for the opportunity.
My wife and I with 5 grown children just stayed in the home from July 5th to July 12th. Myrna was great communicating with us several times before the trip on where to shop for groceries and fun things to do while in Sunzal. The home is large lots of room. Fully equipped kitchen. It was great to have the pool right out back with the hammocks and gate opening up to the ocean. We swam in the ocean out back on low tide water was beautiful. We enjoyed the ping pong table, foosball . dart board, also. Thanks to Chepe and Marta, they cleaned the pool and home everyday and were on call for anything we needed. This home is a great price and in a great location. Close to beach out back and the Sunzal point with great surf , close to El Tunco beach and restaurants and only about 10 minute drive into La Libertad with a really nice clean grocery store and other restaurants. The home in a private area with other homes , gate to enter the area and the home is gated and lots of parking inside the gates.
Thanks again to Myrna and her staff , we had a great time, got some really good waves, we will definitely see you guys again when we return.
We loved staying at Casa Sunzal! This was our second time visiting this location and everything was excellent once again. Romeo, Chepe and Martha are available to bring you water, cook meals for you if desired, take you to the grocery store for supplies, and conduct daily maintenance of the pool and grounds - which was very nice. Martha and her daughters keep the house tidy and clean, and the beach towels and fresh sheets were a bonus.
Casa Sunzal is very simple (not the Ritz Carlton), yet has everything you need, from a fully stocked kitchen, a/c in the bedrooms, dining areas, an upstairs lounge area with TV, as well as an outdoor bbg area, additional lounge areas, ping pong table, and hammocks where you can watch the sunsets, and an INCREDIBLY cozy pool that you'll find yourself lounging in for hours on end! We especially loved that you can hang one of the hammocks between two palm trees, OVER the pool! Does it get any better than that?? !!
For surfers, you couldn't ask for a better, or safer, location.
Close enough to walk to it, we enjoyed the surf every day, as well as the pupusa stand that offers yummy eats at cheap prices.
It's also located very close to the town of El Tunco, which is a bustling little surf town, and Chepe is usually available to drive you there and pick you back up, if you don't feel like walking the 10 minutes to town.
Myrna the owner, was available by phone or internet (good wifi in the house!), and answered all our questions promptly. She's a wonderful lady with a heart for her home country and people.
We are already planning our return trip in 2017... can't wait to get back to this awesome paradise!!
Fantastic surfing location! Casa Sunzal is in a small development tucked away from the main road. The back yard abuts the river and the beach - to surf one of the 10 best surfing spots in the world! Less than 1/2 mile to El Tunco nightlife, the port of La Libertad, and 10 minutes to Walter Thilo Deinninger Nature preserve for hiking, spelunking and ziplining. The house is a 40 minute drive from the Comalapa Airport and about 45 minutes from San Salvador. Great access to all of the Western El Salvador beaches, Parque Nacional El Imposible, Archaelogical sites in Western El Salvador - Tazumal, San Andres, Joya de Ceren. 1.5 hours to Lago Coatepeque and Volcan de Santa Ana.
