“Twin Pines” is a perfect destination for vacationers who seek beautiful northwoods surroundings to “get away from it all” any time of year. Winter activities include snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, ice fishing, snow-shoeing or just relaxing in the quiet, majestic pines. Spring and summer activities include fishing at nearby lakes or rivers, canoeing, kayaking, hiking, riding atv, golfing at nearby golf courses in Bigfork or Deer River, or just enjoying a beverage around the fire or on the deck.
The house is clean, newly remodeled, and nestled in the heart of the Chippewa National Forest. It is built on the site of a “turn of the century logging camp” (Camp Five). The property is on a gravel road – just 1 ½ miles off a paved road, highway 14, and just two miles from the Bigfork River. There are thousands of acres of adjoining state and federal land with countless trails and very few neighbors. The circle driveway makes it easy for people to load and unload snowmobiles or atvs. We are pet-friendly with a limit of two well-behaved dogs for a small fee.
The house sleeps from 4 to 12 people. On the main floor there is a kitchen (complete with all the necessary utensils and dinnerware), dining/family room, large master bedroom with a new queen-size bed, small bedroom with double bed, and a three-season porch with a “trundle” bed that sleeps two. There are also two bathrooms on the main floor – one with a bathtub, and one with a shower. Our home also includes a large open upstairs space with two double beds and three twin beds, and plenty of storage space downstairs to store any extra items, air-dry wet clothes from a day out snowmobiling, etc.
Twin pines is fully furnished with all the necessities you will need to enjoy your northwoods vacation including a full kitchen set, outdoor grill, flat screen tv and dvd player, dvd’s, board games, Air Hockey Table, and a large book collection. There is also a campfire pit out back for roasting hot dogs and marshmallows.
The house is available for rent by the weekend or weekly from December to August, and during a few select weeks or weekends from September through November. We keep the calendar up to date, so please check availability there first if you have any questions.

Owners are Jim and Nancy Shaw. Twin Pines has been in the Shaw family since 1980 when Jim’s parents moved to the area from southern Minnesota and built the house. Our home has been the setting for many wonderful and memorable family events over the years, and we hope that you make some of your own memories while visiting.
Jim and Nancy Shaw purchased this house in 1980
Wonderful location with a multitude of year-round activities.
The house has plenty of space for large families or groups and provides all the comforts that will make our home feel like your own.
Our group enjoyed another great year at the Shaw's Up-North cabin. The cabin is clean, comfortable and well maintained.
The owners were very accommodating in making the reservations and communicating with us. The rental had plenty of very comfortable beds. I wish we could have stayed there longer, but a family reunion kept us busy for the time we were in the area. The rental had a bit of an old house smell, but the open windows provided plenty of fresh air. I would recommend this rental as a comfortable getaway.
We would certainly stay here again.
We spent 3 days in the cabin and really enjoyed it.
It's a great house, with a lovely back yard and deck, very well equipped and comfortable.
Has some nice areas to go visit nearby.
Jim and Nancy where very nice and efficent when answering to all of our emails and questions.
Only downside where the bugs and mosquitos. They're a killer.
Another great year of hunting for our crew. Seven of us bagged 24 grouse by Sunday. We've done better, the weather made it tough. Looking forward to coming back in 2015. Great home and accommodations. Tom K.
Want a neat getaway home for a family or two? Twin Pines is a comfortable and quiet getaway home in the Chippewa National Forest. It's super quiet and we loved sitting on the deck with coffee in the morning and listening to the birds. The nighttime sky is spectacular. Numerous lakes are nearby along with the Big Fork River for canoeing and birding. The wonderful Scenic State Park is about 20 miles east. The house is well furnished with games and books and everything you need for dining in. The upstairs loft has five beds and there are two bedrooms downstairs plus a sofa-bed.
