We call this property 'The Aerie on the Strait' in honor of the Bald Eagles' nest hidden at the top of a conifer just above the house. We often hear their cries and see them soaring along the bluffs.The Aerie is ideal for family gatherings, or as a base camp for groups sight seeing and enjoying outdoor activities on the Olympic Peninsula. Situated midway between Sequim and Port Angeles on the coast, it affords guests convenient access to wineries, festivals, and Olympic National Park. To the west, take Highway 112 (the Juan de Fuca Scenic Highway) from Port Angeles to Neah Bay, the Makah Nation and Cape Flattery. Or, take Highway 101 west to Lake Crescent, Sol Duc Hot Springs, the fabled community of Forks and the Quileute Nation at La Push for fishing, surfing and kayaking. Proceed on south to the Hoh Rain Forest. Go east of Sequim to Port Townsend, and on to Whidbey Island. Take the ferry from Port Angeles to Victoria, B.C. Don't forget your passport.

During winter months, the road to Hurricane Ridge is open during winter vacation, weekends and holiday Mondays. Enter 'Hurricane Ridge' in your browser to see current snow conditions, and learn which amenities are open at this family-style ski hill. It is a short drive of about 20 minutes from The Aerie to the main Park Visitor Center. Another 20-30 minute scenic drive from the visitor center takes you to the Hurricane Ridge visitor center. Depending on snow conditions, you can enjoy cross-country or down-hill skiing or touring on snow shoes. There is a tubing hill for kids.

This 3100 sq.ft. three-level home, perched on high-bluff acreage along the Strait of Juan de Fuca, offers privacy in a forested, retreat-like setting. It features a Master Suite with king bed on the top floor. The Great Room, well-equipped Kitchen, open Dining Room with seating for 12, and two bedrooms, each with a pair of twin beds, complete the middle floor. Views from the Great Room and Master Suite include the Strait coastline west to Ediz Hook, traffic in the shipping lanes, with Victoria, B.C. in the distance. The lower floor comprises a bedroom with queen-sized bed, a generously sized Recreation Room and a Laundry. There is one full bathroom on each floor. The Master-Suite bath includes double sinks, separate shower and a soaking tub with ocean view. Access to private decks off of the Master Suite and the Dining Room and to a small patio off the Recreation Room is through sliding glass doors.

Although there are excellent water views from the property, the high bluff prevents guest access to the beach, 150 feet below. We ask guests, even the most athletic among them, to refrain from attempting to reach the beach by rappelling, rock climbing, scrambling, base jumping or any other means of navigating down the bluff.

Why Ruth chose Olympic Peninsula

We view ourselves as stewards of our lands. This 15-acre property is a part of more than 120 acres of contiguous forest and wetland. We and our neighbors have chosen to promote a mature forest and healthy wetland on this acreage, protecting the diverse wildlife habitat through conservation easements with North Olympic Land Trust.

What makes this house unique

The North Olympic Peninsula is a magical place. Not too far from major-metropolitan Seattle, two smallish cities, Sequim and Port Angeles, bracket a large unincorporated rural area, of which this property is a part. Each of the two cities offer antiquing, art, festivals, wineries, golf, tennis, parks, marinas and access to beaches. Threading its way all across this peninsula, the Olympic Discovery Trail (ODT), mostly-paved, is used by runners and walkers, bicyclists, and horsemen. Guests can access the ODT about 1/2 mile from the Aerie. The Aerie is a secluded, serene, forested retreat. From here guests can explore Olympic National Park, wander the Olympic Discovery Trail, enjoy the attractions of the nearby cities, or simply relax in spacious privacy.

It truly feels like home

The best indication of how we feel about the Aerie is the fact that this is our fourth stay there in a year and a half--coming all the way from Virginia. As I've noted in past reviews, this property has all of the tangibles--the house is fully equipped, clean, and beautiful, and the property can't be beat, especially the views. The owner is very welcoming, responsive, and easy to work with. The location is excellent as well, with easy access to Hurricane Ridge, Lake Crescent, Sol Duc and other natural wonders as well as the conveniences of Port Angeles or Sequim. But there is the intangible quality to this house and property too--it seems impossible not to feel good here. We've stayed in dozens of great vacation rentals all over the world, but this is the only one that we can genuinely say we'd love to live in someday.

Stunning views and a perfect jumping off point for seeing the Peninsula

We had a wonderful stay! The house is very well-stocked, so we cooked most meals in. It's around the corner from Port Angeles, with easy access to grocery stores, restaurants, etc. We were able to see the beaches, the Hoh rainforest, Lake Crescent, and go whale watching. Easily slept 8 adults and a toddler. Would definitely recommend the property!

Beautiful, spacious, comfortable house and property with privacy and spectacular views.

The house and surrounding property were excellent. The house was bright, comfortable, clean, spacious, and well equipped for a large family group. The property was large with beautiful views of the Strait of Juan de Fuca and the surrounding areas. We enjoyed exploring the area including Olympic National Park, Olympic National Forest, Victoria, BC, and a few surrounding towns. There were spectacular views of the ocean, cliffs, and beach, with outside seating areas to watch the changes of weather and sunsets. There were also great views from several areas in the house, and plenty of space for small or large groups to congregate. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and would highly recommend it!
