Water's Edge Bahamian Bungalow with A/C

Bedrooms 1
Property type bungalow
Minimum Stay 4 nights

Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday bungalow in Bahamas - The White House

1 bed, 1 bath, seaside bungalow with amazing sunsets

The Whitehouse is a typical one-floor Bahamian bungalow that sleeps 5. Built on land that over-looks the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the Sea of Abaco on the other, the Whitehouse allows unsurpassed sunset views. A 2 minute walk through the property to the Atlantic Ocean affords sunrise views. This land has been described by a local as 'one of the prettiest spots on the island'.

The bungalow was recently refurbished with new stone floors and fresh paint. Air conditioning was added in 2014. It is simple but comfortable. Enjoy coffee, lunch, dinner or cocktails from your private patio with table and chairs overlooking the Sea of Abaco with its amazing sunsets.

If you need add'l beds, please visit property #556603, our sister cottage 'Sandcastle' which is located on this same property and sleeps 4-6.

A vacation in Man 'O War Cay is easily attained: an hour's flight from West Palm Beach/Miami/Fort Lauderdale to the airport in Marsh Harbour, then a 15 minute taxi ride (taxis are abundant at the airport) through town to the Albury Ferry Dock. 20 minutes on the ferry delivers you to the island of Man 'O War, where our caretakers will greet you and deliver you to your own Bahamiam seaside cottage.

About Dorothy White King

David grew up vacationing on Scotland Cay. It was his love of the Bahamas that brought us to Man 'O War during the spring of 2013.

Dorothy White King purchased this bungalow in 2013

Why Dorothy White King chose Bahamas

Sandcastle (our residence) and the Whitehouse, sit on a 'sea to sea' property, offering exceptional views of both the Atlantic Ocean and the Sea of Abaco.

What makes this bungalow unique

Close enough to the settlement to take part in the local flavor, yet far enough away to allow privacy and solitude. Enjoy the sound of crashing waves, walk the miles of beaches, collect shells in the peaceful low tides of the Sea of Abaco, or walk the 'Queen's Highway' to the 'low place' where the waves crash over the road.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Just had to write a note this morning to tell you how much I love the White House.

Besides being next door to my dearest friend, it is spotless, comfortable and honestly speaking, "feels right"!!!

Maddy met me and is delightful and everything one would want in a property manager.

Charming cottage, convivial hosts

  • 4 of 5

Not many places on earth can boast of having an unspoiled quiet inlet a hundred feet out the front door and a pristine beach a couple hundred feet behind the back door. The cottage itself is equipped with all the necessities and furnished with more beach knickknacks than we could count in the week we were there. If you want quiet, sun, swimming, snorkeling and the like, this has to be the best place on earth. If you hanker for resort-style amenities and exciting entertainment, you'll be whining the whole time. The settlement is both charming and uniquely historic, but you can see it all from a golf cart in one hour. You'll have only two restaurants to choose from, but one of them (The Dock and Dine) is quite good and is the only place on the island where you can buy a drink. And remember: once you're on Man O War, it's tough to get to other islands unless you rent a power boat.

In our case, swimming and snorkeling were the big priorities, so we were pretty much dead in the water when stiff northeast winds made the choice areas too rough. But good books and some rum from Marsh Harbor (bought before taking the ferry to the island) kept us in good spirits and made this an enjoyable vacation.

Owner's Response: Thank you, Jim, for your very informative review of the White House! We enjoyed meeting both of you and sharing our little bit of paradise. We hope that you will return....there will probably be more "beach nik-naks" the next time you visit :-) Have a lovely summer! Dorothy & Dave A side note to travelers: while a personal boat is always fun & does make travel between islands easier, the Albury Ferry runs from Man 'O War to Marsh Harbour & back several times per day. Also, if your party numbers 4 or more, you can "charter" the ferry for a trip to Hope Town at minimal cost.

An amazing stay in the Bahamas!

  • 5 of 5

My boyfriend and I stayed at the whitehouse for 10 days and had an absolutely amazing time. We loved staying in the charming seaside home and will definitely be coming back again! You can't beat the sea to sea access offered with this property. The fishing, snorkeling, and low tide exploring on the sea of Abaco side was great, as well as playing in the waves or walking on the beach on the Atlantic side!

Great accommodations on a beautiful island

  • 5 of 5

This is an updated rental in a great location. The house has been updated recently and has all the needed amenities. We always enjoy the island when we visit almost every year. If you love the outdoors and water activities then this is the place for you. We love to snorkel, fish, sail, and enjoy swimming in the ocean. This island is ideal for low key relaxing as well as walking and enjoying the beach. This rental was comfortable and affordable. The property owners are friendly and helpful. The caretaker checked in with us during our stay and was available if we needed help with anything. Great rental on a beautiful island.

A great spot for a relaxed, quiet, isolated experience.

  • 5 of 5

Now that I have flown to over 20 different islands in the Caribbean over the last 30 years I note that each island has its own flavor. When I returned home I found a wood carving by Joe Albury that I had bought on Man o War Cay 30 years ago. It is one of those naturally developed islands that couldn't have been planned more carefully. The unique golf cart ambiance, very kind and respectful Islanders and our hosts made for an excellent break from our normally compressed lives. The accommodations are a really cute "guest house" style cottage with everything you need to make a small family comfortable. It was perfect for our family of 5, my wife, myself, our 11 year old twins and our 9 year old. It is perfect for a couple ,all should understand that living in a smallish space takes cooperation and with that it was a pleasure. Our hosts were very kind and with a full time property manager every detail seemed to be effortlessly covered making our stay smooth, relaxed and comfortable. A perfect match for a quick getaway for our family who really gravitate toward outdoor activities, snorkeling, exploring and adventure. Video gamers, TV watchers, those needed to be entertained, pool slide and big show types might not find this to their taste, for us it was perfect getaway, a chance to disconnect or catch up online if needed!

Review of the "White House" at Man O' War Cay

  • 4 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the "White House" cottage on Man O' War Cay. It had all the charm we were looking for, and it also included the use of a television and air conditioning two units. The cottage had bedding, linens, pots and pans and the essential kitchen appliances that you would expect to have available to use. Everything was spotless upon our arrival. The beach was immaculate and the neighbors were friendly. People who live on the island who were strangers, actually became our friends long before our departure date. We would highly recommend this cottage for a single individual or a couple.

Car: not necessary

Enjoy the simple & calm Bahamian life from your private seaside bungalow in the boat building capital of the Bahamas. This island is small and is comprised of a colorful community of 350 friendly & polite year round residents as well as a small number of foreign resident holiday homes. Only 2.5 miles long & narrow (often less than 100 metros between harbor & beach) this is the perfect place to relax in a very safe, clean & well kept paradise.

Man 'O War Cay is a simple island where the local's life is enviable. There are no cars or bars on the island, but there are two lovely restaurants (one overlooking the harbor) where you are permitted to bring your own alcohol to enjoy. Be sure to visit the small museum, as well as the local marina, boat yard, and Albury's Sail Shop, where seamstresses create everything canvas directly in front of you. Along the waterfront fishermen sell conch shells and freshly caught fish. Rent a boat, a kayak, paddle board - enjoy the truly exceptional diving, snorkeling, and water sports the island's waters have to offer!
