Overview

About the property

Early 1800's rustic American Chestnut cabin @ Snyders's Run Launch - 120 acres

LOCATION - LOCATION - LOCATION

Welcome to the closest privately owned cabin to the water on the northern end of the lake. The rustic early 1800s American chestnut log cabin is located at the entrance to Snyder’s Run Boat Launch, so convenient to the water; our driveway entrance is in the boat launch parking area. Please note, Corp of Engineers owns all ground to the lake, we do not own the property to the lake. The path to the lake is a well used path from continued use.

We purchased this 120 acres in the early 1990's knowing what this lake offered to us and the general public, and we still own all 120 acres of lake view property today. This cabin was slated to be moved during the flooding in the late 1960's but was saved, and the character of this place remains the same today, unique with charm. What we want to offer guest is an original cottage/cabin from the old dam and that is what we do. History is important to us, and this cabin remains one of the most unique left standing on Raystown Lake today.

What we offer at our cabin, is our rustic view of what a visit to Raystown should be. Enjoy the peaceful 2 minute walk to the water, leading to a peaceful inlet so convenient to swimming and fishing, or just floating around on a raft. Launch your boat at the launch down the hill, with no worry of finding a parking space, just park at the cabin, and walk to your boat. No boat, no problem, just walk down the hill to enjoy the lake. We also offer long term parking/storage for boats inside and outside parking seasonal, both summer & winter.

Please note: No boat, jet ski, or kayak should be left unattended in cove below cabin.

We border The Army Corp of Engineers Federal ground, and we strictly enforce all Corp of Engineers rules. You will enjoy the 1/2 mile dirt driveway to the cabin, with easy access for the guest to enjoy the peaceful drive following the inlet of Snyder’s Run Boat Launch.

Directions: GPS to Snyder Run Boat Launch - boat launch is at the very end of Snyders Run Road. Enter into Snyder's Run Boat Launch parking area. Make right onto Valentine Lane (the driveway is in the parking lot of the boat launch) continue on Valentine Lane till you see fork in road. Continue straight, sign will say Lake View Trails. At next fork in the road continue left, and cabin is directly in front of you. Driveway is well marked.

About Judith Reed

Both owners were raised in the area of Huntingdon and Lake Raystown. Both our families grew up with cottages/cabins on the old Raystown learning to fish, swim & ski. Local ties to the area, not a visitor that decided to come into Raystown area, buy a seasonal home and rent.

Judith Reed purchased this cabin in 1990

Why Judith Reed chose Huntingdon

Location is the key factor while visiting Raystown Lake. Our location is at the lake, our driveway is located in the parking lot of Snyder's Run Launch. Seasonal boat parking available / indoor buildings or outside. Unique larger parcel of property bordering federal ground on three sides.

What makes this cabin unique

Closest privately owned cabin to the water on the northern end of the lake! Owners have extensive knowledge about the lake and the area of Raystown Lake. Year round lake view, easy access to launch the boat with plenty of parking for boat trailers. No boat, bring the tubes and fishing poles and walk down the hill to the lake. Please note: No boat to be left at anytime unattended in the cove below the cabin, we do not own the property to the lake, nor do we advertise this. Worn walking path to the lake, this is not a groomed or mowed path. A Located 4 miles to downtown Huntingdon, 5 miles to Wal-Mart.

Awesome Stay!

  • 5 of 5

Booked this cabin for a college room mate get together. Six guys fit comfortably with plenty of room to spare. This place is truly great! From the very beginning with booking the place all the way through check out the experience was top notch. The owner, Judith was a great host/owner. She was very accommodating, helpful and very kind. The location can't get any better with just a very short drive down the driveway into Snyder's Run launch to put the boat in the water. There is no worry about a full launch parking lot because the water is also just a very short, albeit steep, walk from the cabin. Great view and I can only imagine how much better it would be in the fall. Fully stocked including linens, towels, tp, soaps, etc. Basically everything is included except your clothes and food. Very nice porches to hang out on; open air, screened in, and fully enclosed. Beds were comfortable, couches and seating inside were plentiful. I hesitate to recommend this place only because I hope it's available whenever I want it again! We had a blast and hope to do it again in the future.

love this cabin and the host's

  • 5 of 5

once again this year my husband and I spent a long weekend at the lovely hidden gem of a cabin. from the beginning making the reservation to the end departing its so easy with this owner. the cabin is just charming and is tucked away from all the noise and busy areas of the lake but close enough you can be a part of any of it you want to be. fishing, and boating are just a walk away or a short drive. this year we found lots of river fishing along with the awesome lake. this lake is big and beautiful and the area is a nature lovers delight. the cabin has everything you need you just bring your food and clothing and any fishing or boating items, its clean and neat and easy to be at and the owners are very helpful with any information you would need and just a delightful couple that love the area and what they do. if you want a peaceful getaway this is it..we just love it and we live in the country now but there is just something special about the cabin the water and the owners.. hope to continue this vacation for a long time to come.. thanks!

Paradise at an affordable price

  • 5 of 5

We rented this historic gem twice this year, a week in July and again over Labor Day. We already have it in the books again next year. Judy and Tim are first class individuals with a down to earth attitude and always welcome you with open arms. Perfect weather and just a great place to kick back relax and enjoy Mother Nature in all her Glory. The cabin is always clean and well maintained and the property is well cared for. Boating on the lake is our first love and my wife enjoys walking the dogs down the lane and swimming them in the cove. Judy and Tim thanks for another memorable summer and the wonderful conversation you always provide. The Aungst, Selinsgrove PA

We so enjoy your company, and we appreciate your kindness and care you give the cabin, alway nice to know others understand the value of this vintage cabin, with the location and character that never can be replaced. Raystown Lake is only getting busier every year, and we are happy we can share this wonderful place to customers and friends that appreciate the beauty that Raystown offers. Thanks again. Fantastic Old Cabin

  • 5 of 5

This wonderful old cabin was such a treat to stay in. The owners, Judy and Tim, were so nice and very informative about the history of the area and the cabin. There were many updates and the cabin was so clean with lots of kitchen necessities for cooking even though we did not make our dinners there. We especially liked eating at Woody's Bar B Q in the Raystown Lake Shopping Center. Best ribs we ever ate!! Lots of room to maneuver and park our boat. My husband enjoyed watching TV on the large flat screen and I loved bird and critter watching in the "wicker room" and separate screened in porch that overlooks the large yard. We had a boat problem our second day out that Tim and his friend Randy helped us with, so we could get right back out onto the lake. They were so helpful and willing to go that extra mile. WOW - what a beautiful lake. It was our first time to boat on Raystown Lake and we were not disappointed. Thank you Judy and Tim for a lovely week!!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your review. So glad you enjoyed the cabin and the peaceful location, plus the fact all the wildlife you were able to enjoy. Was happy to share the history of the cabin, and thank you Joe for your history on the finds we have at the cabin. Helping you out with the minor issue with the boat was our pleasure, so happy you were able to enjoy the lake. We enjoyed Woodys BBQ later that weekend, always a favorite of the many guests to enjoy. Always welcome, and keep up on the bird watching. Now I listen and look for the birds you told me about. Regards, Tim and Judy
