About Dan Kent

We're a beach-loving Portland-based family with three kids (ages 17, 13, and 9) plus a German shepherd and young French bulldog. We love to hike Tillamook Head and run on the beach. Our kids boogie board and are learning to surf. Our experience restoring a 1907 house in southeast Portland inspired our work on the Ocean House and, in particular, our commitment to making sure that our guests enjoy a healthy, creative space.

Dan Kent purchased this house in 2013

Why Dan Kent chose Seaside

After nearly two decades of visiting the north Oregon coast, we came upon the beach house in summer 2013. It hadn't been significantly worked on since the 1950s and we were inspired to purchase it and restore it with the goal of creating a long-term family retreat. We're excited to be able to share it with friends, family, and our VRBO guests.

We enjoyed this house just as much the second visit. Everything was cozy, clean, and very inviting for a weekend getaway. Thank you for sharing your home with us! We plan to go back again next year. A tradition has been declared!

Great beach access

  • 4 of 5

Stayed here with 6 adults and 2 kids and everyone had their own space. Our favorite thing was how easy it was to get to the beach. 1.5 blocks and you’re at the prom with a path through the dunes-no driving required! Had a great time with this house as our home base!

Great Beach House

  • 5 of 5

My family loved staying at the Eco Beach House. It's a quick walk to the Prom and the Beach. We used the provided sand toys to build castles and the S'More skewers came in handy at a sunset fire on the beach. The Living Room is great for board games and quiet reading. The Wi-Fi is really nice for updating FB and letting everyone else know how we were living it up! We watched a DVD on the Blu-Ray player and streamed another movie. We rode the beater bikes down to the boardwalk and cooked dinners in the well-stocked kitchen (wish my house had as nice a ventilation hood over the range!). All-in-all, it's a 5 star!

Had a wonderful time!

  • 5 of 5

This little house is a real gem. Tons of character and custom built in cabinets are so fun. The house has little private areas that make it feel big. Our family of five and our dog Elvis were right at home and had plenty of room to spread out. The proximity to the beach was perfect, we were able to walk to the beach with all our chairs, firewood, and coolers easily. We could also walk to shops and restaurants on U Street at the South end of Seaside in about 5 minutes. We loved that the house was far enough away from downtown that it was quiet, and the beach was less crowded. We could still easily walk down the prom to the fun downtown area in about 10 minutes. The house is well stocked with kitchen essentials and we made almost all our meals at home. It has been beautifully restored and had some really nice touches. We have stayed in many rental properties and enjoyed them but this one is a keeper and we will try to reserve it again! No need to keep looking when you've found such a great spot. The only thing we missed during our stay was a BBQ. Perhaps the owners will consider adding a small grill, we would have loved to make ribs, burgers etc. outside. It was a very small concession in an otherwise absolutely perfect week!.
