About the property

3 Bedrooms, 1 Bathroom, comfortably sleeps 5.

Vintage home built in 1900, named Captain's Quarters in memory of my late husband, Riverboat Captain Mark W. Peters, who piloted the paddlewheeler Hiawatha, on the Mississippi River and gave guided tours on Lake Pepin. This is how the 3 bedrooms came to be named. The Mississippi Room consists of a vintage style queen bed, electric fireplace and a private balcony. The Lake Pepin Room has a vintage style queen size bed and electric fireplace. The Hiawatha Room features a full size vintage bed and electric fireplace. All three bedrooms have ceiling fans. Robes, towels, a shower mat and an extra blanket has been conveniently placed in each bedroom closet. The bathroom has a walk-in shower and a free standing soaking tub. Kitchen is fully equipped with an eat in dinette and a breakfast counter. It also includes a full size refrigerator with ice maker, range, dishwasher, microwave, coffeemaker, toaster, mixer, slow cooker, and all the utensils and cookware needed for making a meal and eating in. The dining room features a round oak table, gas fireplace, and French doors that open to a wraparound deck which has a charcoal BBQ grill, table and chairs. Living room has a flat screen TV with cable and Blu Ray Player. There is also a three season porch with board games, puzzles, books, electric fireplace, and VCR player to watch those classic movies. Outside there is a small backyard patio and fire pit, bean bag toss, yard yahtzee and four vintage style bicycles available for your bike riding enjoyment. Enjoy the peace and tranquility of a small town in a quiet neighborhood. Off street parking, forced air heat and central air, washer and dryer available. I also have home made complimentary treats for all my guests which makes this a perfect home to return to following a day of wine tasting at area wineries or a meal out at one of the restaurants. Your visit may be filled with antiquing, cruising aboard the Pearl of the Lake, visiting the National Eagle center, or a day out on one of the many area golf courses. A winter's day of skiing or snowshoeing followed by a cup of hot chocolate in front of the fire place; is the perfert way to end your day. My goal at Captain's Quarters is to make you feel welcome, comfortable, relaxed and at home. My hope for you is that when you leave you take a new memory to add to your life's journey.

About Denise Peters

With the exception of a few years after high school graduation, I am a lifelong Lake City resident. I attended schools in the area and after completion of post secondary education, I worked in the health care system in Lake City for several years, before retiring in 2010. I continue to live here in Lake City with my current husband Lyle, also a long time Lake City resident, enjoying retirement together.

Denise Peters purchased this house in 1987

Why Denise Peters chose Wisconsin

This home was purchased by myself and my late husband Mark in 1987. This was our hometown and we loved the area. Mark served in the U.S. Coast Guard and loved being on the water so it was only natural we remained close to the river and the lake. We made a decision to remain here to raise our two children.

What makes this house unique

The house attracted us because it was affordable. Mark and I were young, in our 20's and we were looking forward to owning our first home. The main attraction for us was the location, the age of the house, its wood floors and the openess of the living room and dining room. As time went on during the recession of the 80's we appreciated the fact that we had a home, these were some hard times. We settled in and added our own touches. The house is very old but exudes a feeling of warmth. After Mark died in 1995 our children and I remained here. I chose to keep our home after they were grown. Welcoming guests and sharing a home filled with memories has been enjoyable. What I love most about my home is who I share it with. When I'm not sharing my home with you it is often used by myself and children for much reminiscing. I have opted to accent it with vintage and antique items some from childhood, others found through my passion for collecting. Lyle and I meet all our guests at check in. We share information about the area and answer any questions you may have. Because I own and operate, you never have to deal with a property manager, we do it all. We live in Lake City and are just a text or phone call away.

Exceptional Attention to Detail! We were very comfortable in this 3 bedroom home away from home! Denise and Lyle have done a wonderful job of making sure everything that you could possibly need is there for you, along with many fun treats and extra luxury comforts. We have been telling people about it since our return and plan on staying at Captain's Quarters again.

MEA Girl's Weekend

  • 5 of 5

Myself and 4 great friends spent MEA weekend at Captain's Quarters. We couldn't have asked for a better weekend. The house was absolutely perfect, Denise and Lyle think of everything, their attention to detail is outstanding (If I didn't know better I'd give them credit for our amazing weather too)! The Railhouse Grill for dinner and the Chickadee Cottage Café for breakfast were both 5 star and walking distance from this great getaway destination. We will stay again when we return to the area. Thanks again Denise and Lyle!

Sister's Getaway

  • 5 of 5

My five sisters and I spent three nights at Captain's Quarters and absolutely loved the house and city. Denise and Lyle are great people and made our stay very comfortable. It was one of my sister's birthday that weekend and upon opening the refrigerator we found a birthday cake for us to enjoy!! That was a very thoughtful gesture. There was also a pot of coffee ready for us on Saturday morning. They thought of everything. We would definitely stay here again if we travel to the Lake City area.

EXCELLENT get-away vacation spot!

  • 5 of 5

My siblings and our husbands wanted to have a weekend get-together and chose to stay at Captain's Quarters - and what a great choice it was. When we were looking for accommodations, we noted various levels of responsiveness from property owners, and these property owners were THE BEST! The property was beautiful, impeccably clean, and not one detail was left unattended. We were welcomed with an orientation to the property, and the host and hostess were so helpful in telling us about local attractions and dining experiences. We would most certainly stay here again. THANK YOU to our hosts!

Very comfortable and welcoming

  • 5 of 5

I stayed at Captain's Quarters with four of my friends, and we couldn't have asked for a more. Denise has thought of everything, including comfortable robes and a welcome basket. The house is beautifully maintained and decorated. The vintage bikes were a nice touch, and we enjoyed a beautiful ride near the lake. We loved our stay, and hope to come back again!

Lake Pepin (Ohuta Park)

My vacation rental property was my first home purchased in 1987 by myself and late husband to raise our family. It is located in a quiet residential neighborhood, off the busy highways. We are located within a short walking distance of the downtown area; which has a wide selection of shops, eating establishments and bars. We are also located only minutes from the marina, the city's beautiful parks, and the exceptional lakeshore. If you are looking for a longer walk, with a view to boot; you can access the river walk. Starting downtown, the river walk extends north to south, following the breathtaking lake scenery along the entire walkway. Enjoy wine? Just a short drive away, try locally made wines at Lake Pepin Winery!
