About Randall and Gillian
Hello ! Our family found Torre delle Stelle several years ago. Having travelled to other parts of the country, my wife and I knew that we wanted some place in Italy to vacation with our (at the time) two young boys - ages 9 and 6. Although the northern part of Sardinia was well known and developed for the 'rich and famous', the south part of the island was very much undisturbed and more traditionally Sardinian. Unlike the more well-known Italian ports of call (Naples, Portofino, Liguria), this part of Italy was not extensively developed. This has left Torre delle Stelle and the surrounding coast and countryside with a much more 'Sardinian' feel, compared to, in many locations, the mainland's culture devoted to tourism. Seeing the more relaxed atmosphere in this part of Sardinia, we toured the south and found this newly constructed villa perched high on the hill, facing west, and overlooking the beautiful beach of Cannesisa. We knew instantly that with its views, privacy, and proximity to the beach and markets that we had found the place where we could start creating lasting families memories.
Randall and Gillian purchased this Villa in 2005
Why Randall and Gillian chose Torre Delle Stelle
As our family spends every year in villa MontiMare, we have created a place that we believe is ideal for family vacations. Here are some of the things we enjoy about the villa and the village : We are quite an active family and from the villa we can walk to the beach and the markets. It is about a 6 minute walk to Cannesisa beach and 7 minutes to the cafés and markets. (However, if you choose, you can still take your car easily to either.) With our boys now teenagers, we allow them the freedom to come and go as they please. They love to walk down to the cafes for breakfast in the morning and to play table soccer (foosball). In the afternoon they love to go to the beach and snorkel - returning sometimes with shellfood - that they have caught themselves - for lunch. We can also send them to the market at times for last-minute supplies for dinner. The villa is private. You can sit on the terraces for sun, you can have conversations at the dinner table, you can shower outside - all in complete privacy. The villa is equipped with air conditioning in every bedroom - important for the hot summer Sardinian nights. Enjoy a cooling swim in the villa's private pool if you prefer to remain on the property. My wife and I enjoy playing tennis in the morning at the (free) village tennis courts. We never have to wait. We enjoy walking as a family to get a gelato after dinner. It is a 7 minute walk. Sometime when we don't want to cook we walk down for pizzas - to either eat there of bring back to the dining terrace to enjoy the sunset. If you are looking for a place to have a beach holiday with your family in a private villa in a surrounding that allows a bit of independence for your older children, and in a spot with fantastic views, then we think villa MontiMare is a great choice.

Partial views of sea and beach in Torre delle Stelle
This is a spacious, well-equipped villa with views down towards the beach. We used to take the plastic chairs down to where some of the bushes had been thinned and from where we could see the sea. On one windy day, the swell came came up and it was wonderful to watch and listen to it. Francesco gave excellent service. He came twice to look at the TV which had a loose connection. We had no hot water for a couple of days and he immediately came out to fix it. This lovely property is being let down by the cleaning company though. eg One of the shower outlets was choked and hadn't been cleaned for some time. We visited at the end of the season though and a deep clean before next season would sort things out. The pool was spotless and cleaned weekly. No hesitation in recommending.
Thanks so much for your review. Later in the season the hot water heater at the villa turned off infrequently, requiring Francesco, our manager, to reset the system several times. To prevent future issues, we replaced the hot water system at the villa in October. Regarding the shower drain, we shared your comments with our cleaning agency who will add this point to their checklist. A thorough deep clean at the end of the season, conducted personally by the owners, has always been part of our protocol.
On a separate note – In October we expanded the terrace at front of the villa by more than 10 sq meters. This now provides a new, spacious area for guests to enjoy uninterrupted views of the beach and the sea. It’s an ideal spot for lounging with friends and family while enjoying evening drinks and the spectacular sunsets.
We’re so glad that you enjoyed your stay and hope to see you again in the near future.
A wonderful villa with views to die for
The villa and location were just wonderful. This is one of the few experiences I’ve had where the photos online don’t do the villa and location justice. The villa was larger than we expected, more than large enough for our family of four and six would work just as well. Given it’s location, most of the villa is in shade during the day which was a godsend when it was hot, yet there are a number of terraces around the villa that remain sunny all day.
The location was ideal for families as it is relatively quiet yet you have enough local amenities for whatever you need.
As has been mentioned in other reviews, there are a lot of steps to the beach but our 8 & 12 year olds found it no problem and you can drive down if necessary. But the trade off were the spectacular views across the valley and bay. Truly stunning. Overall, I’d very much recommend the villa.
Thanks so much for taking the time to review your experience at our villa. We are delighted to hear that you and your family had a great holiday!
Property in need of updating.
No hot water for over 2 days. Was told to rinse hair in outside shower as it may be hotter. Then had to twist a Duracell battery under the boiler if it went off again!! Cooker was pure guesswork as the controls had worn off. Found a disgusting, filthy nightdress under the bed. Told the property owner and manager and it was left outside our property where I put it for the whole time we were there! Futon broken. Dust in the corners and under the bed. 300 steps was not as close to the beach as was led to believe. The walk back was like climbing Everest!
Hello Patricia –
We’re sorry that your experience at our villa didn’t completely meet your expectations. For the benefit of our future guests we would like to add some context.
The villa has instantaneous or “on-demand” hot water. One day during your stay there was an electrical short in the unit. You contacted our property manager, and a technician responded promptly that day. After he fixed the issue, the short appeared again the following evening and our property manager resolved the problem completely within a few hours. First time this has ever happened – we are truly sorry for any inconvenience. Although we never like to have guests be inconvenienced by household issues like this, it was very encouraging to hear that our property manager, Francesco, responded promptly to resolve the issue. He is an absolutely wonderful man and his #1 priority is the comfort of his guests and quick resolution of problems if any arise.
During your stay, you mentioned to us that you had found a piece of clothing from a previous guest in the villa. Had the article been described to us then as you described in your review, we would have suggested that you just dispose of it.
The villa has three bedrooms – with beds to accommodate 6 people. We do not note a futon in our listing on Homeaway and that piece of furniture is only meant to be used as an overflow couch in the basement.
We mention the beach is a 6 min walk via 300 stairs. The stairs may not be for everyone, although some guests enjoy the exercise. There is ample parking at both the villa (private, off-street parking) and the beach for those who would prefer to drive.

Beautiful villa, stunning view of incredible sunsets
My family and I just spent a lovely week at this villa, spacious and comfortable, the views overlooking the bay are lovely and the sunsets in the evening are truly spectacular. A great beach, where you can hire loungers, umbrellas etc...in easy walking distance down four flights of steps. My youngest child was 7 years old and for him, the walk back was manageable albeit he did moan as it is quite a workout. By the end of the holiday however, all my children were like little mountain goats sprinting up the steps. If you are not especially fit or perhaps particularly unfit, this may be difficult. Having said that, the views especially at sunset were absolutely spectacular because of the location of the villa so quid pro quo. Peaceful and secluded place but in easy walking reach of the beach, supermarket, restaurant and gelateria. A lovely holiday had by all.
Hi Liz - We are so glad to hear that your family had a lovey holiday at the villa. We love the sunsets as well - and we agree about the steps back up from the beach - they do get easier each day :)
1 week hol
Only very small showers and lots of steps let it down and small sun terrace
So happy to hear you had a brilliant holiday. We are building a new sun terrace this autumn so there will be a lot more space to sunbath and for outside dining / relaxation next season! There are indeed a lot of steps to the beach but at least there's lots of parking down there if you prefer to drive.
Torre delle Stelle
This was our first visit to Sardinia and couldn't have picked a better villa or place to spend a week in the sun. The village is wonderful place to visit very rural and beach isn't over crowded. The villa was excellent with everything you could possibly wish for. We never got tired of looking at the view over the beach and the mountains. looking forward to our next visit to Torre delle Stelle and staying at this villa.
Thanks Steven ... wonderful to hear you enjoyed your stay.
September is a great time to be in sourthern Sardinia... the air is still warm and most of the crowds have gone home. We've posted a few more pictures on the website including a shot of sunset from the dining terrace in August. After many years, we too never tire of looking at the spectacular views from the villa.
Torre delle Stelle is located on the South-eastern coast of Sardinia. This environmentally-protected village is 35km from Cagliari, Sardinia's capital, and its airport (Elmas). Created 30 years ago, it has become one of the most sought-after areas on the island. The village has two sandy-coved beaches - Genn'e Mari and Cannesisa. Villa Monti e Mare overlooks Cannesisa which one can access directly via a flight of stairs. Views from the villa extend westerly into the sunset, back along the coast toward the capital and out over the Gulf of Cagliari. Torre delle Stelle has communal tennis courts, a diving school, mooring, and a main piazza with live entertainment and/or cinema every night from mid July thru August. In the village one can find 3 restaurants, 2 supermarkets, 3 bars, cashpoint, fish monger and butcher. Please ask for opening times and days as they vary according to season.
