About Randall and Gillian
Hello ! Our family found Torre delle Stelle several years ago. Having travelled to other parts of the country, my wife and I knew that we wanted some place in Italy to vacation with our (at the time) two young boys - ages 9 and 6. Although the northern part of Sardinia was well known and developed for the 'rich and famous', the south part of the island was very much undisturbed and more traditionally Sardinian. Unlike the more well-known Italian ports of call (Naples, Portofino, Liguria), this part of Italy was not extensively developed. This has left Torre delle Stelle and the surrounding coast and countryside with a much more 'Sardinian' feel, compared to, in many locations, the mainland's culture devoted to tourism. Seeing the more relaxed atmosphere in this part of Sardinia, we toured the south and found this newly constructed villa perched high on the hill, facing west, and overlooking the beautiful beach of Cannesisa. We knew instantly that with its views, privacy, and proximity to the beach and markets that we had found the place where we could start creating lasting families memories.
Randall and Gillian purchased this Villa in 2005
Why Randall and Gillian chose Torre Delle Stelle
As our family spends every year in villa MontiMare, we have created a place that we believe is ideal for family vacations. Here are some of the things we enjoy about the villa and the village : We are quite an active family and from the villa we can walk to the beach and the markets. It is about a 6 minute walk to Cannesisa beach and 7 minutes to the cafés and markets. (However, if you choose, you can still take your car easily to either.) With our boys now teenagers, we allow them the freedom to come and go as they please. They love to walk down to the cafes for breakfast in the morning and to play table soccer (foosball). In the afternoon they love to go to the beach and snorkel - returning sometimes with shellfood - that they have caught themselves - for lunch. We can also send them to the market at times for last-minute supplies for dinner. The villa is private. You can sit on the terraces for sun, you can have conversations at the dinner table, you can shower outside - all in complete privacy. The villa is equipped with air conditioning in every bedroom - important for the hot summer Sardinian nights. Enjoy a cooling swim in the villa's private pool if you prefer to remain on the property. My wife and I enjoy playing tennis in the morning at the (free) village tennis courts. We never have to wait. We enjoy walking as a family to get a gelato after dinner. It is a 7 minute walk. Sometime when we don't want to cook we walk down for pizzas - to either eat there of bring back to the dining terrace to enjoy the sunset. If you are looking for a place to have a beach holiday with your family in a private villa in a surrounding that allows a bit of independence for your older children, and in a spot with fantastic views, then we think villa MontiMare is a great choice.

Torre delle Stelle
This was our first visit to Sardinia and couldn't have picked a better villa or place to spend a week in the sun. The village is wonderful place to visit very rural and beach isn't over crowded. The villa was excellent with everything you could possibly wish for. We never got tired of looking at the view over the beach and the mountains. looking forward to our next visit to Torre delle Stelle and staying at this villa.
Thanks Steven ... wonderful to hear you enjoyed your stay.
September is a great time to be in sourthern Sardinia... the air is still warm and most of the crowds have gone home. We've posted a few more pictures on the website including a shot of sunset from the dining terrace in August. After many years, we too never tire of looking at the spectacular views from the villa.
My husband and 12 yr-old boy returned from our holiday at the villa in early September. We booked last-minute and had a wonderful week on the beach and in the village of Torre delle Stelle.
There are three restaurants in the town and two markets for buying groceries for evening meals at the house. We usually alternated between eating out and preparing dinner at home. The stroll down to the grocery store was delightful, taking in the beautiful views and the lovely slow pace of living in a place that has not been overrun with development. Eating dinner on the front terrace of the villa is breathtaking. Because the villa is on a hill overlooking the beach, the views of the sea and sunset are fantastic! It's a bit of a walk from the villa to the beach - perhaps 4 or 5 minutes down stairs, and a great work out on the way back.
The house had everything our family needed, although the water pressure could have been a bit stronger. The outside garden and the position of the villa was great. It is a detached house - private and full of native vegitation and fruit trees that are well maintained. We picked a few lemons to prepare the evening meals and gin and tonics!.
Overall - we were extremely pleased with the visit and thought it was a good value for the price. Good for families or even if you are a couple just wanting to get away from it all. I would recommend this place for anyone and I am definitely going to come back probably next June.
Hello Jane --
Thank you for your review… it’s always nice to hear other families enjoying the villa as much as our family does.
June is a popular month for guests to visit the villa… at that time of year the apricot trees are full of fruit, the sun sets on the terrace at about 8.45pm, the days will be warm and the evenings will not be too hot.
If you didn’t have the chance, the Saggitario restaurant/ café has a wonderful gelato bar. Our 12 year old loves to walk down at night with us after dinner to see other children and try the different flavors. (My wife and I also take the opportunity to have a limoncello or mirto!)
holidayin Torre del Stelle
Fantastic sea and mountain views from this villa. Excellent cooking facilities and spacious kitchen area. Large bedrooms. and living space. We did not have a car and found the walk to the shops and local fruit and veg stall very easy about 15mins. The stairs down to the beach start from the garden which were no problem to climb! The local restaurants were fab and rustic using locally grown produce the food is divine. We found sunbathing on the lower terrace great as it got the sun all day A very clean and comfortable villa I would recommend to anyone wanting a relaxing holiday in Sardinia.
Our experience at Villa Monte Mare
We rented the vila for two parents and two adolescents in mid-July 2012.
The villa has beautiful views of the mountains and of the ocean. This, in our opinion, is the strongest selling point of the property. The local agent is very nice and ready to help.
The house itself is generally comfortable but the furniture can be upgraded. There is no microwave oven, no coffee machine, and no toaster. There were ample china and silver ware as well as pots and pans.
The description of the accessibility to the beach is an overstatement as one needs to descend -and of course climb - 330!! steps from the house; this without counting the 45 additional steps to the parking area of the house!.
The "waking distance" to the "shops" and the "Shopping mall" definitely are exaggerations. In truth you can only reach them by car.
The bedrooms do not even have a small chest where to store clothing or a small table where to put the suitcase, and the only closets there only allow for hanging, the bottoms being full with pillows and some bed covers with rancid smell.
It was particularly disturbing that the bed sheets, bed covers and towels had a very strong rancid smell of humidity which forced us to wash them before using them! The washer machine also has a strong smell to humidity!.
Although the house is listed to host 6 people the living area can not accommodate more than three at a time and the dinning dining table is for four people only.
The only way the main door can lock while inside is to lock the outside wood shutters leaving the inside area very dark.
We saw some rats running around and over the BBQ area which prompted us to decide not to use the BBQ and finally moved out of the house just two days into our stay.
We spend hours finding another property and paid a very high price to find acomoadations at the last minute.
We returned to this house two nights before to render it back to the local agent and we found that the lower level of the house had a flood from a leak coming from a locked room in the lower level of the house.
All in all, we used the house for four 4 nights out of the 12 that we paid for!
We shared our terrible experience with the owner who asked us how much he should compensate us for the for the fact that we had to rent another property. We thanked him for the offer and told him that we would leave it up to him. He never came back to us.
This year was our 8th season renting our family home. Often we hear of our guests wonderful stays. We were confused and disappointed by this family’s perception of our home.
Within hours of arrival, our manager alerted us to their immediate disappointment. Torre delle Stelle (TdS) and the villa’s location appeared to have not met their expectations from the outset. TdS is in a natural, less developed, setting. Amenities are more than adequate, filled with wonderful people, but are local in nature.
On the website we describe the distance to the beach and shops as just “a few minutes walk”. It is a 6min walk to the beach and an 8min walk to the cafés, markets and restaurants. Our family, who enjoys being physically active, normally parks our car and travels on foot around the village.
Upon arrival, our manager greets guests and spends 30min on a tour of the villa. Guests are encouraged to contact him with questions. The villa has a toaster and a coffee maker (in the cabinets by the refrigerator) and a table that seats 8 (in the photo on the website.. expanded by pulling out the sides). The outside dining table also seats 8.
Our linen service is the same used by other villas in the area. Had the cleaning ladies, local mothers and grandmothers, encountered any damp linens, they would not have provided them to guests.
Each bedroom in the villa has a wardrobe 1m wide and 2m high. Hanging clothes go in the top and there are 2 drawers in the bottom. We feel that this is sufficient for summer clothing and chose to maximize the room that guests have in their bedrooms.
The villa has a non-locking, inner, glass door and an outer, lockable, secure, solid wooden shutter door for night time or when away from the villa. Due to the safe, secure feeling our family has always had at TdS and at the villa (we have two young children), we lock the solid outer door only when we go to bed and not during the day while at the house.
The animal that the guests refer to is a naturally occurring “country mouse”. Near to our villa is an small undeveloped forested area. On our property there is a hillside full of wild olive trees and boulders. The topolino most likely lives in this area, although we have only seen him once or twice.
We believe that there was a misperception about TdS from the beginning (described at one point by the guests as “a dust bowl”). We understand that the family decided to travel to the north of the island and not remain in the village.

Torre delle Stelle is located on the South-eastern coast of Sardinia. This environmentally-protected village is 35km from Cagliari, Sardinia's capital, and its airport (Elmas). Created 30 years ago, it has become one of the most sought-after areas on the island. The village has two sandy-coved beaches - Genn'e Mari and Cannesisa. Villa Monti e Mare overlooks Cannesisa which one can access directly via a flight of stairs. Views from the villa extend westerly into the sunset, back along the coast toward the capital and out over the Gulf of Cagliari. Torre delle Stelle has communal tennis courts, a diving school, mooring, and a main piazza with live entertainment and/or cinema every night from mid July thru August. In the village one can find 3 restaurants, 2 supermarkets, 3 bars, cashpoint, fish monger and butcher. Please ask for opening times and days as they vary according to season.
The weekly rate includes garden maintenance, bed and linen service, gas, water and up to 100kWh of electricity (more than adequate for normal usage). Down payment of 30% upon booking, balance 8 weeks prior to arrival. Deposit and final payments are made via bank ACH transfers only from guests' accounts. When guests arrive at the villa there is a 140euro end-of-stay villa cleaning fee (cash) paid to our property manager
