About Eshyah Selig

I am a real-estate appraiser by profession, and rehab historical properties for fun. This was one of my earliest efforts, and it is a gem. When I bought this property, there were no foundations in any of the walls, no mechanical systems, nothing but a great location and the shells of 3 small, historically significant buildings. We lifted up the buildings, poured foundations, lowered the buildings and rebuilt them from the frames out, using the most appropriate materials that we could find. It was a labor of love.

I am a trasplant from California, and JazzFest, 2014 will mark 20 years in NOLA. I came for the music, attending the Fest for several years in a row, and then decided that hey! these folks do this all year 'round; they just invite the rest of the world for JF. I became aware of WWOZ, the best radio station in the universe, Gambit and Offbeat. This place is wired for fun. I love it and will never leave, at least not for good (I like to travel). I have rehabbed 5 historical properties, and now using this one to partially finance my retirement. Now I'm running a dog-training program at St. Gabriel, the only women's prison in Louisiana, teaching inmates to train rescued shelter dogs for wounded-warriors with PTSD.

Ain't life great?

Eshyah Selig purchased this cottage in 1998

Why Eshyah Selig chose Downtown

This property is as New Orleans as it gets. Why come to New Orleans to stay in a hotel that could be in Cleveland (no offense to Cleveland) or any high rise hotel in the country? Why not stay in a piece of New Orleans history? Start your visit as soon as you check into the Mardi Gras Cottages.

What makes this cottage unique

This is a beautiful, peaceful, unique property in walking distance to all the excitement and fun in the French Quarter. After a day of sight-seeing and music and fun and inbibing all that NOLA has to offer, come home to a private, serene place where you can recharge your batteries before venturing out again, while still soaking up the ambience of New Orleans. Save money by using the full kitchen for some meals, and put your restaurant leftovers in the fridge for future reference. Even use the free laundry so you don't have to go home with a suitcase full of dirty clothes! Pet friendly.

Another Awesome stay at the Cottages!!!!!!!

  • 5 of 5

This is my fifth time staying at the cottages. And it never dissapoints. Came in town for my first Red Dress Run. It was awesome. The cottages are perfectly located to everythng. Once again we did not use the vehicle the whole time. On street parking right in front of the unit is perfect for loading and unloading the car. Ever since disovering the cottages two years ago, I have never stayed in a hotel or anywhere else in New Orleans. It don't get any better. And Eshyah makes it all so easy. Great communication before and after arrival. Look forward to seeing you again soon Eshyah.

nice cottage close to the french quarter

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was comfortable and well appointed with the basics, including the owners recommendations. We walked all over from there. We stayed with our dog and it was nice that there is a field across the street.

Adequate

  • 3 of 5

The apartment was cute. We loved the location of this property & walking to the French quarter. It was also very pleasant & private sitting outside. Furnishings in the unit are adequate but worn & sparse. The kitchen had one kitchen towel & a very used sponge. The mattress does need to be replaced. Unfortunately, we had only a trickle of water on our last night there & the morning of our departure & could not shower. Efforts to call the owner in the evening & again in the morning were unsuccessful. A friend of one occupant discovered that the water was shut off & turned it back on. This happened when we were packed & ready to leave for the airport. The owner called to apologize when we were at the airport & explained that a plumber had been called the previous day & probably left without turning the water back on.

Owner's Response: I am sorry that these guests were without water for 12 hours; I would be less than thrilled with that as well and I am afraid that it colored the experience of these guests. The plumber did forget to turn the water back on when he left in the evening. The first call came to me when he was working on an exterior faucet issue in the evening, and I figured the issue would be resolved once he was finished. It never occurred to me that he would fail to turn the water back on. I got on it in the AM as soon as I became aware of it, and by that time the issue had been solved by the simple act of turning the water valve back on. Duh. I am also sorry they were not satisfied with the furnishings; this is a new one for me. We are not a 4-star hotel and never claimed to be. I don't know how many dish towels most people use at home; I use one at a time. Anyway, s--- happens, at home and on vacation. I know it can mean the difference between a successful vacation and a bust, and I hate to think that something we have done could tip the scales in a negative way. We DO try to add to our guests' enjoyment of their visits. We love New Orleans, and want our guests to have a great experience here. I am sorry that these people had a less than perfect time due to our failings. We will try harder.

Awesome Cottage!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 5 of 5

Simply amazing is the best way I can describe Mardi Gras 2016. Eshyah does an amazing job at making checking in and out so easy. Location of the cottage is perfect. This is our 3rd time staying at the cottages. We stayed in the back unit twice and this time the adorable Unit A up front. I will never stay in another hotel again. Cottages are always clean and secure, plenty of linens, and I could go on. We parked in walked everywhere with no problems. Loved sitting out front with the doors open with some jazz music playing. I felt like a local. Eshyah is also very pet friendly which is a big bonus. Hate putting my fur babies in a kennel. I am looking at booking a couple more times this year and of course next mardi gras as well. THANK YOU ESHYAH!!!! YOUR AWESOME!!! See you soon!!!!!!!!

Cute and cozy

  • 5 of 5

Great location, we could walk almost everywhere we wanted to go. We stayed for a week and really appreciated having the kitchen to cook a few meals. Kitchen was fairly well equipped. Laundry was a bonus!

There is lots of space, there were 2 of us but there was enough room to sleep 6! Decor is cute, we loved the stained glass windows.

We loved hearing Mr. Okra go by in the mornings singing about his vegetables for sale.

Fantastic trip to New Orleans and lovely place to stay.
