Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday cottage in County Kerry - Pink Gate Cottage

sleeps 6, 3 baths, 3 bedrooms, winter garden, garden furniture, hammock

Pink Gate Cottage is located in a stunning part of the island, with fantastic views of the Atlantic Ocean, the 'Blasket Islands' and ‘Dingle Bay'. A part of the latest 'Star Wars' movie was filmed on the 'Skellig Rock' island which just a short boat trip from the cottage. This traditional old Irish cottage was recently renovated to the highest standard. It has a large garden with private entrance, parking, and sunny patio area with facilities for 'al fresco' dining. You will also find a wooden deck in the garden where you can enjoy a glass of wine while overlooking the sailing boats going by in 'Dingle Bay' in the evening sunshine. The ground floor has a king size Victorian bed, walk in wardrobe and en-suite with power shower etc. The big country kitchen with stove and very high quality fittings leads to the sitting room - again furnished to the highest standard - leads to the winter garden with large glass windows that will make the best of the views over ocean. Upstairs, there are 2 bedrooms, 1 super king size bed and 2 single beds. A large bathroom with freestanding Victorian bath and 1 sep.toilette.

Fishing/ golf: Just 2 kilometres from 'pink gate cottage, in the harbour village of Portmagee, you will find many possibilities for different water sports activates, deep see fishing, excursions to the 'Skellig rock'. Within 15 km are the famous fishing lakes of Waterville were salmon and sea trout can be caught.

Excursions: The scenically stunning 'Ring of Kerry' is a must. The chocolate factory in Ballinskelligs, world famous for its hand made chocolates has to be visited more than once. The Nature Park in Killarney is also worth a visit for shopping in Kenmare and Killarney.

Dining: The small fishing village of Portmagee, just a few minutes by car from 'pink gate cottage' has a great choice of restaurants and bars where food is served all day and where you can sit outside overlooking the harbour and its activities. Knightstown also has a great choice of fisher restaurants, pubs and hotels that serve good local cuisine.

Peace, quiet and tranquility

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Pink Gate Cottage for two weeks over Christmas and New Year 2009/10.

Central heating supported by a fireplace and a wood burning stove, Sky for the cold evenings, views of the Atlantic, local provisions available and it was well appointed, well furnished, clean, well maintained and wonderfully quiet. A good folder of clear instructions too.

Put it another way, we were struggling to think of what the owners could have done better with the property.

One of the owners (Tim) came to say hello and make sure all was OK, and that was the last we saw of them for two weeks although he was on call if we needed.

We hiked a lot, weather permitting, and the cottage is well placed for Valentia sans car (obviously), and it's a short drive to Caherciveen for the bigger hills or south to mountain passes and more coast.

Most of rural Ireland was closed at this time of year of course, but the candle shop was still working (now he /does/ need to work on his frontage), and the shops in Port Maghee were open for provisions and so forth.

In Caherciveen QC's was a great find for a restaurant, and Helen's Coffee House was a welcome retreat on cold lunchtimes. They were the best of the set we tried during our stay.

If you're after a place to stay on the West coast, Pink Gate cottage is thoroughly recommended.

Can't add much that hasn't already been said

  • 5 of 5

It's difficult to add anything to the superlative reviews already written without merely restating how much we enjoyed our stay. We have used HomeAway / VRBO in the US, Canada, and Europe for several years, and can rate this as one of the finest, without reservation. If rural Kerry coast is what you're looking for, you can not do better.

Oh how we loved this cottage. So authentic, retaining original details, but beautifully updated and decorated. Well furnished. Two fireplaces to keep you cozy. Beautiful sunroom. Tim, the host, is very responsive. And Valentia Island offering so many sights. Easy to explore the Ring of Kerry. Hope to return soon.

stunning cottage in glorious setting

  • 5 of 5

This property and the location are both stunning. With fantastic facilities and glorious views over the Atlantic to the Blasket Islands, the cottage is the perfect base for a holiday to remember.

The owners are friendly and helpful and ensure that the cottage is maintained to the highest standard.

This property caters for most holiday makers and the garden is a beautiful peaceful haven to enjoy the surrounding countryside.

Valentia Island has much to offer and County Kerry will not disappoint.

Magical, stunning, perfect.

  • 5 of 5

Pink Gate Cottage far exceeded expectations. It is even prettier, charming, & more scenic than it appeared in pictures. Immaculate, comfortable, cozy, extremely well furnished. We spent a week here and never ran out of things to do. Lots of great walking in the area, and the cottage is just a short drive (or walk) from the friendly village of Portmagee. Also very close to Knightstown, with the larger town of Caherciveen just a bit farther away.

The cottage is well situated for driving the Ring of Kerry or visiting the blue-flag beach at Ballinskelligs. The more adventurous should definitely take the boat ride and walk to the top of Skellig Michael. Good restaurants in the area include Moorings, Skelligs Mists, the Fuschia Restaurant, & the Boston Bar.

Tim and Doris are perfect hosts who see to it that their guests enjoy the most comfortable stay possible. This cottage would be great for couples, families with young kids, families with older kids - virtually anyone.

A Super Cottage on a Fantastic Island!!

  • 5 of 5

My wife , my 2 year old son and I stayed for a week, the cottage was 1st class, there was a really traditional feel coupled with all the mod cons you'd except from a 4* property, I really liked the attention to detail(Books ,Candels, Artwork, Real Fires etc) and there was loads of room for the little guy to run around in the gardens and a gate to keep him safe and secure!

The Island is a real gem, loads of walks and stunning scenery, for eating we really liked the Light House Cafe ( great sandpit and play area) and for evening dining we went to the Moorings in Port Magee an excellent spot!!

We have stayed in other places where we felt that the owners where over powering but after Tim gave us a quick run through , he left us to it , which was perfect!

I'd recommend this cottage and will certainly return to it in the future,

Drogheda Ireland.

Pink Gate Cottage is located in a stunning part of the island. The island is connected to the main land with a road bridge and in the summer also with a ferry service that runs all day. The cottage offers fantastic views of the Atlantic Ocean, the 'Blasket Islands' and ‘Dingle Bay'. The proximity to the Gulf Stream gives it a subtropical climate creating a special fauna and flora making it the ideal location for walking in a very special and unique environment. St. Brendan's Well, a natural spring with reputed healing powers, is only a short walk from the cottage. Portmagee, a small fishing village is 2kms from 'pink gate cottage' and offers a variety of activities - angling, water sports, and boat excursions to the 'Skellig Rock' as well as some very good fish restaurants. Whale watching trips are also available. Knightstown on the eastern end of the island with a ferry connection to the main land is a picturesque small village with cafes, bars, restaurants and shops offering local crafts and art. Valentia Island is the perfect location for a very special holiday. Longterm rentals available from October to March. Rates available on request.

Golf: Golf in the world famous Waterville golf course is to be recommended. Additional good golf courses in the area are: Dooks, Beaufort and Killarney.
