A newly married couple who both fell in love instantly with the property. Husband American and wife French. Both have travelled extensively and after many years of searching for that gem on the ocean found their 'Paradise'. Currently living in Massachusetts until we cannot any longer resist the urge to live at this house full time.
Diana FitzGerald purchased this villa in 2013
The house with its 'Million Dollar view' enchanted us from the very first moment. The kindness and honesty of the people who live on the island was irresistible. It was all a magic recipe for Happiness and Content. The song ' Don't worry, be Happy' seems to have been written for the way we feel when we are there. How can one resist the utter beauty that assails you throughout the day. Marveling at the color and warmth of the waters, sunsets and sunrises and finally the stars and the moon that invade the skies at night and light the way to Heaven.
It's a very strange thing but the best way I can describe it is this: All my life I have been wearing sunglasses and have been amazed at how much they can embellish colors, ocean and skies - I keep telling everyone, this is the first place I have been to where the sunglasses cannot intensify the beauty of the ocean. Well in this house, you are confronted from every room with this utter beauty all day long. Even at night, it glows!!! And, what's more, you can swim in it at all times because it is but a few steps away and is always calm and sandy.
A very comfortable house and a beautiful location, all true to the descriptions online.
Very clean and well maintained but with room for improvements insofar as the state of shower heads and working lights.
Perfect customer service. Always there when required but never intrusive.
Most certainly would recommend it to family and friends.
North Caicos is a very underpopulated island with very basic infrastructure, totally quiet but with sufficient good restaurants if one wishes to eat out, beautiful beaches and an amazing sea for boating, kayaking, snorkelling and fishing.
What an amazing weekend spent in North Caicos. The Pink Villa was truly more than anything I ever imagined. The house itself is perfectly located. If you are looking for privacy, there is no better place. The house is gorgeous and very well maintained. It has all that you need, all you really have to do is buy groceries if you decide to stay in... There is a mile long private beach where you can kayak, paddle board or just sit back and relax! There are places close by to visit, all the locals are incredibly friendly and hospitable. If you are staying for a few days it is highly recommended to rent a car or arrange for someone to drive you around as there aren't many places you can walk to. Barracuda Bar is the closest to the house, no matter what you do you'll meet the most amazing people there and have a good time! Diana and John who own the house were very accommodating and suggested many places for us to visit, including Middle Caicos which is a most see!!! TCI is without a doubt a memorable time! Postcard worthy!
I felt I had to write this review in case the review before this one had any impact on someone's decision to visit North Caicos.
I can't speak for the rental property, I've never been. I do however suspect by the "whining" nature of the last review that it wasn't fair.
Firstly, North Caicos is a sleepy caribbean gem. The many people that re-visit it year after year know what I'm talking about. So do the many ex-pats living here.
North Caicos is the kind of island one visits to get away from the kind of people that wrote the last review. It is a fabulous island filled with wonderful little restaurants that don't look like much from the outside, but that serve up some of the most wonderful island fare.
And yes, prices here a little more expensive. That's to be expected when you have to bring everything over by boat. That's the exchange for the miles upon miles of powdery white and unspoiled secluded beaches.
One can only surmise that the prices changed continuously for the last reviewer due to attitude. A sort of payback for what I can only imagine must be an obnoxious person who feels a sense of entitlement wherever they go.
Perhaps they'd be happier at an all inclusive in the Dominican Republic? Just saying.
Our experience both with this villa and with North Caicos as a whole was the most disappointing trip we have ever been on. We became wary within the first 10 minutes at the villa, when the caretaker began showing us the view and over half the screen doors weren't functional. Overall, the condition of the house was shabby, with budget renovations to include wobbly railings and cracking plaster to doors that slam and old cabinetry. This villa might be appropriate for a large beach keg party, for example, but not at all comfortable or carefully maintained for a traveler with a baseline of discerning standards for accommodation and upkeep. "Rustic" would be an overstatement as that term implies some sort of charm. For us, the proverbial cherry on top for what we've deemed our expensive island camping trip, was the pool that leaked rapidly and grew so much algae by the end of the week that it was not only rendered completely unusable, but so disgusting that we didn't even want to sit on the patio. The "caretaker" is unreliable and rarely comes by the house to check-in, except sporadically and inappropriately unannounced. The house "phone and internet" we were told was available, ran out of credit for several days and we were stranded without any communication. The caretaker did not come by at all during this time. Suffice to say, he didn't clean the pool. Equally as disturbing as the dilapidated state of the house was the owner's mischaracterization of the island. There are no stores, except empty convenience stores. Restaurants were roadside shacks. There is NOTHING in walking distance except an abandoned and ransacked hotel. If you don't rent an overpriced falling apart Jeep from a local, you will starve, or lug your groceries from Provincales at great cost. The villa offers no amenities: no scuba gear, fishing poles, etc - just a few broken kayaks that couldn't be used due to the raging wind on the island. If you plan on renting or purchasing anything, even a bottled water, please be prepared to overpay and be quoted a dishonest price that changes daily. I wrote the owner about these issues (this is just a sampling of what we faced) in our second week, not only did she take an uncourteously long time to respond, but issued no refund as requested, and insisted basically that since the villa was good enough for her family, it should be good enough for her. If that's her view, I suggest she spare others the disappointment and just not rent it.
We were looking for a quiet place off the beaten path, we found it! If you want High rise hotels, shopping, crowded beaches, don't come to North Caicos. The house was great, beautiful view, mile long beach, bone fishing, kayaking. Want to venture out and find snorkling or one of the many deserted beaches, 10-30 minutes and you were on a new beach all to yourself. Convenient grocery stores for meals in, a few good restaurants for locally caught fish. Loved talking with the locals wherever we went, they were very friendly and accommodating. Don't plan on anything happening fast, sit back and enjoy the quiet life of Island living, not too many places left like this in the Caribbean. Favorite restaurant was The Last Chance Bar and Grill, local transplants that moved from the states 20 years ago, Howard is the chef and his wife is the baker, we felt like we were having dinner at a friends, great people! A little Heaven on Earth!! Want a destress vacation, this is the place.
Six of us wanted to spend a friend's birthday in the islands, and we wanted a house which would be large enough to accommodate us and dreamt of having our own private beach. This was perfect. The hosts were very helpful in giving us tips for the surrounding area, but to be honest, we were so happy on our own beach and in the beautiful villa, that we didn't end up leaving very much! We were too busy enjoying dinners on the terrace, drinks right on the beach and for those of us who run, the beach was perfect for that. We would love to come back and highly recommend this property.
Biking around the island, stopping to see the Pink flamingos. Do not forget your camera for the pictures of a lifetime. Only miles away from Middle Caicos separated by a causeway, there you can surf the waves and enjoy the breathtaking beauty of the scenery.
