About the property

Short Term Rentals in the Best LOCATION in Bern!

LOCATION! LOCATION! LOCATION! Absolute best location in Bern, right in the heart of the old medieval city of Bern.

We are currently taking many bookings for 2017! Don't hesitate, BOOK NOW!

Please visit our other two AMAZING listings in the same building to see our other apartments and look for special pricing for the winter season!

Listing #508589 (1st Floor above ground level apartment, same building)

Listing #669536 (3rd floor apartment, same building)

FYI: We do not live in these apartments, they are all yours...while you are a guest in our building.

Here is your chance to live like a local in the old city of Switzerland's capital city, Bern. Step outside your front door to discover the city's main attractions like the famous Zytglogge (Renaissance Clock Tower), Münster (Cathedral), Kursaal, Kultural Casino Bern, Concert theater, BärenPark, and Einstein's house where he developed his famous theory of relativity.

Nestled among amazing restaurants, cafés and bi weekly street markets, this apartment has everything you could possibly need and is full of original character as well as all the modern conveniences and furniture! Charming and light filled, the apartment can accommodate 1-5 people, 2 on the 160x200 cm (queen) bed and 2 on the sofa bed (double) and lastly one person on a fold-out bed (suitable for smaller adults or children). You will have your own modern kitchen and bath room as well as a large living room, dining room and master bedroom.

On the 1st and 2nd floor, in the typical Bernese apartment style, the kitchen and bathroom is separated from the bedroom and living room and is accessed by walking across the landing through the house's spiral stairwell. Although, this staircase is used by all four apartments in the building, running into anybody between 9:00 p.m. and 8:00 am is very rare. Many guests love this unique aspect as it allows for two seperate living spaces, one side for quiet time and one side for early risers or conversations a little later in the day.

A scant 10 minute walk under the romantic arcades brings you to/from the train station and mere seconds away from all the main tram and bus lines.

A wonderful apartment in the heart of Bern

  • 5 of 5

Walk through the beautiful arcades of the city of Bern, go around the corner from the Zytglogge, turn into a building entrance, climb 14 stairs to the first floor landing and you arrive at what we have come to think of as our home away from home in Switzerland. Our place is quite spacious for an active retired couple from California. It is comfortable, clean and homey. It is smack dab in the middle of the action of a nation's capital, yet remarkably quiet. The block we are on has 12 restaurants. We are minutes away, on foot, from the parliament building, the main cathedral, several museums and the mile stretch of arcades which constitute the "main street" of Bern. Eight bus and tram lines have stops within 200 yards of the apartment. A wonderful bakery serving fresh bread and other baked goods, is in the very next building to ours. If this weren't enough, the experience is completed by the presence of our hosts, Sara and Rob, who live in the building. They are Canadians who have decided to live in Bern. Making us comfortable is their primary professional concern and they strike a perfect balance between running a facility with all the amenities of a 5 Star Hotel and being friendly, informative, responsive innkeepers. We stayed in this flat for 5 weeks and can't wait to return. Run, don't walk, to the "Contact the owner" button and book this apartment for your Swiss trip. Just don't take our weeks!

Great place but very noisy

  • 3 of 5

If it weren't for the noise, we'd give this flat another star. It's lovely, in a very convenient location and generally has everything you may need in a holiday home. So, if noise isn't an issue for you, and you'd like to be in a bright, comfortable flat, then this would be a good choice. For us, the noise meant very little sleep. There's the street noise until well after midnight from passers-by, and then the refuse collection around 6 each morning followed by general deliveries. Then for the weekend there's the street market directly under the flat with dozens of stands being set up.

Owner's Response: Dear Future Guests, We are surprised by the strong feedback regarding noise. We haven't, in four years of business, ever had such a review. We feel this guest's review is extreme and overstated. We'll take this moment to more accurately describe the noise you can expect. The bedroom, located in the centre of the building facing an interior courtyard is very quiet. The living room, should anyone be sleeping on the sofa bed, is subject to normal city noises with the exception of heavy car traffic which we don't have thanks to traffic calming measures. The street sweeper truck cleans the street in the morning, it's true, however, garbage is collected only after 10:30 am. Bern is very well managed and clean and these are normal city noises in all major cities around the world and every apartment in the old town will hear them. Our title suggests that you will be in the 'Middle of Bern's Old City'. The benefits of staying in the middle of the beautiful old city far outweighs the noises of passers by going to/from dinner, the theatre, etc. or the age old tradition of the surrounding area's farmers, bakers, and artisans coming to Bern every weekend to sell their products. Don't take our word for it, please take the time to read our many other reviews for this property as well as our other two apartments in the same building. (#461968 and #669536) Please contact us if you have any concerns, we are happy to answer all inquiries in detail. We hope to welcome you to beautiful Bern soon!

Central, comfortable, quintessential Bern

  • 5 of 5

Imagine what life would have been like for Albert Einstein when he lived in Bern and did his pioneering work. This apartment is in the same block as the one he lived in and about a one minute walk away. It is a VERY similar apartment in a very similar building. The Einstein Museum is about an eight minute, 450 meter walk across the river.

The apartment was very clean and convenient to the old city area of Bern, about a nine minute, 650 meter walk from the Central Bern Banhof.

Rob and Sara were excellent hosts and provided a great deal of information to help us enjoy our too-short time in Bern. We would love to go back again when we get the chance. Thank you.

historical apartment

  • 4 of 5

We spent nine days in this apartment in the beautiful centre of Bern.

The apartment is nice and comfortable and very quiet..with a good bed and nicely furnished. It is a pity that the bathroom and the kitchen are separated from the rest of the apartment ..so it is less suitable for elderly people.

Public transport is just around the corner..and with the card Sara and Rob gave the quests you can use all trams and buses for the whole period. Sara and Rob are friendly and helpful and know a solution of any question.

We had a wonderful stay. Thank so much for you both.

Bright and comfortable apartment

  • 5 of 5

I along with five other women (Girl Scout alumnae) stayed three nights (wish it had been longer) in this roomy and modern apartment. Even though there were six of us, we were not on top of each other with the large living area and bedroom, plus the ample size modern kitchen. Five people would have been better for sleeping, as two adults on the couch was a bit uncomfortable, but we are Girl Scouts and adaptable. Sara, Rob and the children seemed like old friends by the time we left. They were so helpful in giving directions, and assisting us in many nice ways. We appreciated Rob giving us a tour of the apartment and how everything worked. The location was perfect in that we could walk or grab a tram to any place in the city. We especially enjoyed the street market on Saturday morning, although those in the front portion of the apartment heard them setting up booths beginning about 3:00 A.M. I recommend staying here and would definitely return if ever in Bern again. Great communication with Sara prior to booking and arrival.

Just what we wanted

  • 4 of 5

We stayed for 6 nights in this lovely old world apartment. Modern kitchen facilities, bathroom and large sitting room and bedroom. We brought fresh fruit & vegetables, etc at the market on the street below the apartment on the Friday morning after we arrived. It was great to wake up and see the market downstairs. Rob was very informative & helpful on both arrival and departure. The apartment is in a very convenient location close to everything. We did heaps of walking around the city.

We ate at Tibits restaurant a couple of times (great for vegetarians). There are two in Bern, one at the station and another not far from the apartment.

While we were there we took a short train trip to another lovely town Thun and spent a beautiful day there.

Highly recommended!
