eldon otis purchased this cottage in 1957
This little home is in embodiment of a dream never realized. Forced from the farm in Nebraska during the dust bowl of the 30's and 40's. Adeline Otis and her husband Pearley traveled and began a new life in Walla Walla. Adeline was a school teacher and Pearley found work where ever he could while making a habit of buying small houses to rent to GI's and their families while they were based in Walla Walla. This house was special as it was Adeline's dream retirement home. Small enough for easy house keeping with a yard just the right size for them to maintain, but to her it was the ideal place because it set across the street from her Nazarene church. Unfortunately Adeline passed before she had the opportunity to enjoy herself in this sweet little cottage. Remaining in the family so long ago it has served a need to house individuals and couples for decades. Today Adeline's lineage has decided to re-purpose her small dream abode into something people from far and wide can enjoy. The location is close to everything one would want to visit. From Whitman College to downtown Walla Walla, to East gate and the airport. We hope you enjoy your stay at Adeline's cottage
Charming cottage with old fashion mailbox slot, small entry way with arched cove in front.
We had a great time here. We walked down town and through the campus . The cottage was perfect for us . Thanks Eldon!
Eldon was so flexible and helpful! We appreciated such a laid back home to enjoy a restful weekend.
This is a terrific location and helpful owner. It was surprisingly quiet despite being on a busy corner. We were there in winter with the windows closed however. In summer be aware outside the bedroom window is a neighbors driveway with four vehicles and a church across the street. So if you really need quiet to sleep it could be an issue. If you are going to spend time relaxing at the cottage also be aware the cottage has very old and not comfortable furniture for hanging out. It's only shower is quite tiny. The pots and pans have seen better days. For value and convenience it's perfect.
Great location! Just a couple blocks and short walk away from downtown. The house is small and quaint but perfect for a couple night get away for two people. Eldon was very accommodating and even walked us through the house when we first arriveded. Our dog loved his stay too! Especially the big comfy dog bed.
The cottage was as charming as the owner, Eldon! Close to town and Whitman campus. Very convenient on and off freeway. Could use a full length mirror on the back of a door and maybe some grease on the bathroom door hinge. Otherwise, we were very comfortable. Thank you, Eldon. It was nice to meet you!
A very cute and comfortable place to stay. Eldon was very welcoming and accommodating. We enjoyed our stay and liked being able to walk downtown. Loved the Kerig coffee too!
Adeline's Cottage is a cute little house near Alder on Clinton. One bedroom, one little bathroom. Kitchen has range and microwave and a coffee maker. It is about 6 or 7 blocks from downtown. It is just right for two people. Owner met us with the keys. We enjoyed our time here. I would recommend it to friends. We ate at the French restaurant, Brassier Four one night (YUM!!) and at Andre's Kitchen a couple of times. (Amazing!) We also went to Whitman Mission and Fort Walla Walla, went wine tasting, and took the walking food tour. Had a great time!
Quite Neighborhood close to Whitman College, and Odd Fellows Home. A few steps from bus line. 2 blocks to Pioneer Park. Close to downtown wineries and tasting rooms. Church across the street. As of feb we have free wifi
